Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Rev. Tinkywinky: 'Is the culture overpowering our churches?'

by: Pam Spaulding

Sun Jan 07, 2007 at 23:00:00 PM EST

[Welcome folks from Crooks and Liars!]

This column by Jerry Falwell over at WingNutDaily is a laff-fest. Maybe not as good as the unhinged fellow who opined that tofu causes homosexuality, but this one is quite amusing.

The Talibangelist and head of the Thomas Road Baptist Church is upset that the grip of fundamentalist religious types over the masses (i.e. brainwashing) is slipping away.

As I've recently reported, the few so-called Christian characters represented on the networks have either abandoned core biblical values or are depicted as callous ogres. Further, the media typically tout diverse forms of spirituality that embrace alternative modes of sexuality, worship and lifestyle.

...Sadly, countless pastors and church leaders have folded under cultural pressure and have attempted to socialize the Gospel of Christ. Meanwhile, those of us who remain faithful to the Scriptures are seen as unintelligent and irrational.

He nearly comes unhinged over data released by George Barna that found most Americans say that they are "deeply spiritual" and religious faith is "very important," only 15% of those who attend church said that a  relationship with God was the top priority in their life. Oops. That nasty culture is creeping in. Then the good reverend goes off the deep end, with this bit of business:
The very important report also found that "three out of every four teenagers have engaged in at least one type of psychic or witchcraft-related activity." [Uh, what are we talking about here? Harry Potter?] The report also detailed that only one-third of 8-to-12-year-olds say a church has made "a positive difference" in their life; one-third said prayer is very important in their life; and most said they would rather be popular than to do what is morally right.
Lest you think that Rev. Tinkywinky is moping -- he's pissed and holding his ground.
Evangelical pastors simply must determine to lead by biblical principle, even though those principles are being increasingly disparaged in the popular culture. I believe it is time for a re-evaluation of the church's efforts. It is obvious that we are losing the cultural battle in many ways, especially with our young people. We will not succeed in reaching this world for Christ unless our churches determine to lovingly reach out with the Word of God to our fellow man.

Rev. Tinky Wink:
"We will not succeed in reaching this world for Christ unless our churches determine to lovingly reach out with the Word of God to our fellow man."

Huh?

HUH?

Mr. Hate is talking about "lovingly" reaching out with the Word of God to his fellow man?

Isn't this the guy who blamed 9-11 on gays?

He's right about one thing....
Well, he's wrong about a lot of things, but he's right about one thing, "Evangelical pastors simply must determine to lead by biblical principle."  This is true, pastors must lead by biblical principle.

They should lead by example with biblical stuff like "love thy neighbor as thyself," caring for the poor, banning "usurious" interest rates, and letting the land lay fallow every seventh year.  Also, one of the core biblical principles is that the follower themself must not just speak about it, but use the teachings to guide their own actions.

Reminds me of the right-wing politician who was pusing to post the 10 Commandments in public buildings, presumably so more people would have the opportunity to learn them.  But, when asked, he could not name the 10 Commandments.  Thus, his urgent feeling that people need to see them more often, should have first been directed toward himself.  Want to see the 10 Commandments spread?  Learn them, live them.  (How about "thou shalt not kill.")  Then teach them.  Don't ask our government to do your own religious homework for you that you are not willing to take the time to do yourself.

Great post,
RebKaplan.

Only Falwell would become unhinged and confused
over the concept that even children can see through the evangenital charade.

So his solution is that ministers should try to pretend even harder - perhaps by casting a few biblical spells and pulling a rabbit out of the hat.

What they'll never figure out is that the fastest way to turn young people off is to present anything to them as an absolute. And the unbending, unswerving, only-allowed-to-occasionally-change-if-it-suits-the-Falwell-agenda brand of "religion" isn't likely to convince any thinking person that enslaving their souls to the moneychangin' church purchases everlasting life. I'd wager that most young people can't envision themselves living an everlasting life of condemnation, fear, servitude and obedience to self-proclaimed spokesmodels for God. Heck, they at least get to VOTE on who wins American Idol.

We've seen the notion of love emulating from these people as well. It's a mixture of a strain of S/M spiritural/sexual fulfillment, with the assumption that the only way to get closer to God is to be beaten, gagged, tied and tortured into adherence to today's "biblical" principles.

No wonder Peter LaBarbera doesn't seem to mind wearing leather chaps.

Looking for scapegoats
Sounds to me like it's taken Falwell 3 months since the NY Times published Evangelicals Fear the Loss of Their Teenagers to figure out who and what to blame.

Falwell Is Right (for once)
They are losing the culture war.  They declared it.  They defined it.  And most Americans (especially younger ones) favor driving right through the line they drew in the sand.

It's been a very long time now
since Rev. Tinky Winky was anything I'd call Christian.  He sacrificed his Christianity on the altar of political influence decades ago.

Biblical Values are NOT America's Values
The clue to Twinkwinky cluelessness is his repeated calls to return to biblical values, like "whoever curses father or mother shall be put to death" (Ex 21:17) or "if someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and mother [girls get a pass] . . . then all the men of the town shall stone him to death" (Dt 21:18-21) of the prohibition of "a women shall not wear a man's apparel, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment" (Dt 22:5) and the prohibition of wearing clothing of mixed fabric, and so forth.

These are indeed biblical values. But how many stoning of rebellious sons to death has Twinkywinky done? How many children who have cursed their parents have been put to death? When Twinywinky and fellow travelers practice what they preach, then we'll know they actually practice the biblical values they extol, even if they will have to spend much of their lives behinds prison bars for their barbarity and cruelty, because the bible's values are not America's values. They are not even Christian values.

These observations are obvious to sane and reasonable people, but alas, these Twinkywinky types are not sane or reasonable, and doubtful if they actually believe what they preach -- but just keep those "faith donations" pouring into the Twinkywinky's evangelism of the gullible, clueless, and extorted, despite the prohibition against stealing.

Thed DO live by one of those
These fundies do live by Dt 22:5 dealing with crossdressing. Why do you think we transpeople have such a hard time. Actually, I take that back; why do you think that we transpeople have such a harder time.

Bunk
What planet does he live on?  The culture is infested with bogus religiosity--the kind he's pushing.  Any nutjob claims to see the Virgin Mary in a lasagna and not only will hundreds flock to the site, but the networks and newspapers will report it without any sense of the utter ridiculousness.  Pat Robertson, whose supposedly God-directed predictions are always bunk, gets air time day after day with his latest bloviations.  Under attack?  They're stronger than ever, and twisting our courts, our military, and public discussion.  They've ruined our science, our educational system, and our standing in the global community.

"In order to maintain an untenable position, you have to be actively ignorant."  The Colbert Report

worried about the kiddies
This is funny:

"The report also detailed that only one-third of 8-to-12-year-olds say a church has made "a positive difference" in their life; one-third said prayer is very important in their life; and most said they would rather be popular than to do what is morally right."

I don't know about others when they were between 8 and 12 years old, but I was forced to go to church.  I didn't get a lot of days to sleep in late so I was pretty pissed about having to wake up at 7am on a Sunday morning just so I can play dress up and listen to some fart tell me I'm going to hell unless I'm a good little girl.

As far as prayer and popularity...kind of like church, had to do it, didn't have much of a choice.  Heck, I was the one who had to say the prayer at dinner time.  And I can't think of one kid who doesn't want to be popular.  Most of us are big ol' Id's (see Freud) until we are well into our adult years.  What makes this idiot think a child will be any less interested in popularity just because he/she goes to church with their parents?

My spirituality
was definitely informed by my childhood churchgoing experiences, but I was forced for that, and God did I hate it!!!
