The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Log Cabin Republicans defend McCain on anti-gay robocalls

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 07:00:00 AM EST

Oh my. There's a really poorly-thought-out post on the Log Cabinette blog defending John McCain's use of an anti-gay robocall in Florida chastising Mitt Romney for wavering on social issues. First, let's take a look at that call again, which was first reported on The Politico, hardly a lefty site.
"I'm calling with an urgent Mitt Romeny [unintelligible]"

"We care deeply about traditional values and protecting families. And we need someone who will not waver in the White House: Ending abortion, preserving the sanctity of marriage, stopping the trash on the airwaves and attempts to ban God from every corner of society. These issues are core to our being.

"Mitt Romney thinks he can fool us. He supported abortion on demand, even allowed a law mandating taxpayer-funding for abortion. He says he changed his mind, but he still hasn't changed the law. He told gay organizers in Massachusetts he would be a stronger advocate for special rights than even Ted Kennedy. Now, it's something different.

"Unfortunately, on issue after issue Mitt Romney has treated social issues voters as fools, thinking we won't catch on. Sorry, Mitt, we know you aren't trustworthy on the most important issue and you aren't a conservative

"Paid for by John McCain 2008.

The Log Cabinettes' defense is so weak, considering we're speaking about Mr. "Straight Talk". They say he didn't know about the script and didn't approve it.
Had anyone bothered to reach out to the McCain Campaign, they would have realized Sen. McCain immediately stopped the calls.  The campaign told us Sen. McCain never saw the script and never approved it, which is why he stopped the calls ASAP.

Of course, those facts won't satisfy the left-wing who pounces on these kinds of things.

Oh really? Eva at Lloydletta unloaded this:
Did the campaign go on the record with Log Cabin Republicans? Or was this going on background. The robocall said "Prepared and Paid for by McCain for President." Does that mean there are other robocalls by the McCain campaign that don't get approved by John McCain? How many of these are they by Mr Campaign Finance Reform? Log Cabin Republicans didn't get a named McCain spokesperson saying these calls had been pulled. The Atlantic found out from an unnamed McCain spokesperson that the calls had been pulled. So there is still a question: why won't a named McCain spokesperson go on the record on this?
The whole matter was sleazy because, of course, by the time the call was pulled, how many homes were dialed up and delivered that message? Please. You have to own it when your candidate craps on you.

The next passage of the LCR post is unbelievably laughable. More after the jump.

Pam Spaulding :: Log Cabin Republicans defend McCain on anti-gay robocalls
Scott Tucker @ BlogCabin.net:
Of course, those facts won't satisfy the left-wing who pounces on these kinds of things.  But where were these same left-wingers when Democrat Barack Obama, who has never introduced a single piece of pro-gay legislation in his Senate career, paraded around on stage with an anti-gay religious leader who believes in so-called "conversion therapy"?
I know there may not be a lot of Log Cabinettes reading the Blend, but they can't say I haven't repeatedly blasted Obama and his campaign for sidling up to McClurkin. Heck, I even chose that topic when I reached a much larger audience guest blogging for Glenn Greenwald at Salon, saying heads should roll. Nor can they say I didn't blast Clinton and Obama for being slow to respond to General Peter Pace's anti-gay remarks last year -- another charge made against the "gay left" on the LCR blog. So sad.

The defensiveness of the LCR post begs the question -- is this all about frustration that they have such slim pickins this cycle? After BushCo turning on the ignition, putting the bus into drive and running over them, backing up and gunning it over them again, the entire 2008 Clown Car slate showed zero progress on LGBT neutrality, let alone advocacy. All the ones with fairly  moderate positions on the issues abandoned LCRs to court the Base.

What it means for a Log Cabin Republican that wants to vote for the principles the organization stands for is that they are placed again in the position of justifying support for a candidate, in this case John McCain, who is willing to pull out the homo strawman.

A better for the LCR (not that they'd take my advice) is that if they truly believe McCain didn't know anything about the robocalls to call for him to fire his renegade homophobic staffers -- after all, Mr. Straight Talk and the LCR allegedly believe in the merits of personal responsibility.

UPDATE: Andy at Towleroad adds this fun to the mix:

Aside from the robo-call incident, that a gay group would rush to the defense of a man who until a few months ago never heard the acronym LGBT before, supports Don't Ask, Don't Tell, is not sure if condoms stop the spread of HIV/AIDS, thinks gays should be able to marry (just not legally), and worries about his 'gay' clothing choices, is laughable.

self-esteem issues
You know, sometimes I think gay folks have an irrational and dysfunctional relationship with the Democratic party.  Then I read stuff put out by the Auntie Toms, and I feel much better about myself.  They need some tissues for their issues.

no, its the reverse
the democratic party has an irrational and dysfunctional relationship w/all of its constituents, not just the lgbt folk.

the dnc doesn't have issues, they've got subscriptions!

"blogtopia - yes! i coined that phrase!"

Anti-gay robocalls? Sounds oddly familiar...
Personally, I'm wondering if McCain has taken a page from Rove's playbook--but then, I was watching Frontline's "The Architect" program again on my computer. Yes Yogi, it's "deja vu all over again."

"More than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read." -- Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

Proposed McCain statement to LCR's
"Good morning. I'm very uncomfortably honored to be addressing you people of the Log Cabin Republicans here at the Exit 17 Rest Area.  Unlike President Bush, I will accept your measley $1,000.00 (WOW) to my campaign"

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?
I honestly do not understand the mind set of the Log Cabin Republicans. Every time I try, my brain begins to shrink towards implosion.

If just feels too much like a mentality that says "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

Log Cabinette?
I personally disagree tremendously with the LCR's, but isn't referring to them as Log Cabinettes rather demeaning to both women and to gay men?

Thanks for bringing this up
It's bothered me, too.

Pam, what is your thinking in using the term "Log Cabinettes"?

Cabinettes are craven
It never ceases to amaze me how low the Log Kabin crowd is willing to go. They touted Bush the first time saying he really loved gays and "just look at the Austin 12". BTW, whatever happend to the phony front group "Republican Unity Coalition"?

Log Cabin always says "We are courageously working from the inside". Yet as things got worse and worse with Bush, how come they had no effect whatsoever? Log Cabin constantly tells glbt people they should be funding and supporting Republican candidates because we can't take the Dems for granted. But that logic makes no sense. Shouldn't we be funding and supporting the tremendously courageous and heroic white gay men working inside the KKK and the Family Research Council? We must donate our $$$ to Pat Robertson so that the amazing closeted gays can "work from the inside for change".

McCain blah
Problem is we are going nowhere. Its a waste of money and time for Log Cabin to deal with the 2008 nominees.

I am not going to support McCain nor Romney, I would either want to support a real conservative or someone who supports equality for all of us.

I've grown more sick of the nominees the Republican party has fed our country and my state, gradually I will eventually see the light.

Log Cabin needs to contribute towards building new supporters so 2012 would not be as painful.

Cognitive Dissonance at play?
I have never quite understood the Log Cabin Republicans, as many of your readers have also stated.  I suspect that there is some kind of cognitive dissonance going on that they continue to support a party that treats them like the omega dog in the pack.  Perhaps this creates a sense of familiarity that they recall from having been taunted on the playground that they seek out subconsciously to make their lives feel "normal" to them.

The issue, though, is not that they have beliefs that don't make sense to the rest of us.  It is simply that they have those beliefs and their beliefs are just as real to them as any that the rest of us have.  We are not going to change them with reason or taunts.  It is sad that they do not see the dissonance between their reality and their beliefs, but that is how it is.

It is similar to how those people who know that HIV/AIDS is running rampant in the world still do not use caution or protection and end up...surprise, surprise...with a cd4 count of 12 and a viral load in the millions before they are diagnosed.  How does THAT happen?

Some people just don't have a sense of cause and effect.  From the earliest days of Helm's tenure in the NC Senate, there have been gay members of the NC Republican Party.  They sat silently or cooperated with Helms for nearly half of my voting life. Sen. Liddy Dole has inherited their support and the basic campaign tactics of the Helms machine.  We need to focus on unseating her to end a legacy of fear, hatred and self-loathing just as much as we try to prevent another homophobic President from getting elected.

Ron Hudson

Old Money
Most LCRs come from old money and are wealthy. They don't have to deal with many of the day to day issues the lower classes have to deal with so they don't see things from our perspective. Money doesn't solve all the problems but it sure greases a lot of skids and makes life a lot easier.

I used to know a LCR and when I asked him why, his response was "I'm not a single issue voter." I said to him, "Yes you are, it's just not the same issue the rest of us care about." His response was to smile condescendingly at me and say "Oh really? What is my single issue?" I looked him in the eye and said, "Money. You don't give a shit about anything or anyone except your wealth. That's why you're a Republican." Funny, he didn't have a comeback for that.

Never try to train a pig. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig.
