COUNTER???

I WOULD LIKE TO ORGANIZE A PEACEFUL COUNTER PROTEST TO PROTECT THOSE WHO MOURN.  I WOULD LIKE TO ORGANIZE A LARGE GROUP OR GROUPS TO MEET AT THESE FUNERAL HOMES, AND WITH OUR BACKS FACING THE WESTBORO CLAN HOLD UP LONG AND LARGE DARK SHEETS TO SHIELD THE MOURNERS FROM THESE FREAKS, AND OF COURSE TO SHIELD THE VIEW OF THE WESTBORO INBRED FUCKERS TRYING TO HECKLE THEM.  PLEASE POST A COMMENT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN ME IN STANDING UP FOR THOSE RIGHT NOW WHO CAN NOT STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES.  IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE POSTING A REPLY, SEND ME A MESSAGE OR IF YOU HAVE MY CELL NUMBER CALL ME.  I WILL BE WORKING THAT DAY, BUT I WILL TAKE A "LONG LUNCH" TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION BREWING.

INSTEAD OF COUNTERING

I HAVE DECIDED NOT TO TAKE THAT ROUTE.  IN MY MIND EVEN THOUGH I THINK I MAY BE HELPING, I AND ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH ME COULD BE CONSIDERED NO BETTER THAN PHELPS.

I INTEND TO SEND FLOWERS, AND A CARD - EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT KNOW THE VICTIMS.  PERHAPS A COMMUNITY THAT SHOWS THEY CARE FOR THEIR NEIGHBORS WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER PLACE THAN HAVING MORE ADDED COMMOTION AROUND.

The Phelps clan has a habit of picketing high profile tragedies. In Pennsylania, they protested at the funerals of Amish children gunned down by a madman

Of course, but

I was talking about what the general public understands to be the guiding obsession of the Phelps clan - something to do with LGBT people.  So the mayor of one town was just trying to come up with a rational answer about why in the world these nutcases would be coming to disrupt her town.  Unless that was your point, too. :)

The Phelps have done a brilliant job of self-promotion for practically no cost.  And for this event they've got a two-fer since they'll be picketing a soldier's funeral nearby a day or so later

Why don't they protest

Stores like Victoria's Secret, Target, Wal-Mart or K-Mart?

I used to be a drag queen for years, and of course I bought my costumes from many other stores that included women's specialty stores, big box stores, and thrif stores.

WBC's choice of protesting logic makes no sense to me at all.  If they protest one, they will need to protest all; and I don't think the patronage of their church (aka the Phelps family) is big enough to do that.

I am sure the Phelps would thank you for the free publicity... especially if you stage a counter-protest, thereby making their small picket an event worthy of news coverage.  Beware, though, of new laws criminalizing protests around funerals.  They are content-neutral laws, so protesting against protestors too close to a funeral could land you in jail.

Much more effective to ignore them.

you may be right on the publicity thing.  But I am one who prefers to be a good neighbor, and when someone is down and out, or if someone is being kicked while they are down I want to step in and do something.

Perhaps attending may be a bad idea, but I just can't help thinking about those families left defenseless against the ravenous bleatings from Fred and his wretched family.  

In the "city of the broad shoulders" you tend to automatically feel compelled to share the load, and shelter and shield those who are at their most vulnerable.  Can't help how I feel.  

Somehow just sending a mass card doesn't feel like enough.  But yeah, showing up does sound like a bad idea.

the press won't cover it.  You'll keep FredCo away from the grieving families, and they won't get any free publicity out of it.  Go for it!

I Look Forward to Freddie Dying

When pervert Freddie Phelps croaks I think thousands of LGBT folks, Service People, veterans and just plain folks who have had their grief process raped by Freddie and Klan should return the favor and picket his funeral.

And they should all carry signs proclaiming how Satan is violating old Freddie for his sick perverted ways.

Fred and his ways

I used to think the best way to deal with Fred and his folks was with humor.  I am a gay activist and a pacifist.

My beloved, my life, my husband died in his sleep on January 27th.  His Memorial Service was on February 3rd.  Had Fred been there telling me Steve was roasting in hell and had I a gun, I would have shot Fred dead.  Not having a gun, I would have found a baseball bat or large stick and attacked Fred ... beating him and his daughters in a rage until they were dead or I was pulled off them.  I am a pacifist ... but in my grief I was not in my right mind ... and Fred would have set me off ... I know in my heart he would have.

I am still in shock and deep, deep sorrow.  I don't know if I will ever climb out of this pit of despair again.  I would have pled temporary insanity but I would still go to jail ... still, I would beat the bewhillikers out of all of them ... kill them with any luck.  That is if they picketd my beloved's service.  They didn't.

But there are two effective ways to combat Fred and clan.  (1) The angel costumes used in Laramie WY at Matthew Shepherd's funeral.  HUGE wings that effectively blocked Fred and his folks off from the view of the funeral and mourners.  Very effective.  Silent and nice.  (2) Sue the pants off Fred's church for emotional distress.  Held up so far in Maryland though the punishment was reduced this week from 10 to 5 million dollars and the case is still under appeal.  Still, sue the church every time they picket a funeral.  Between angel wings and lawsuits, they might get the messaage.

Of course, I personally am partial to baseball bats.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband.  I know that it doesn't feel like it now but you will eventually be able to eat and sleep properly again.  It's just going to take time.  Maybe you could spend some extra time with friends or family so they can help you.  
I'm a pacifist too but I do agree that these people are filth.  I think that when they pray the face the ground.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these hatemongers show up in Jackson, TN, particularly at Southern Baptist Union University, which was basically decimated by a tornado a couple of days ago.  Bet the school didn't hate fags enough to avoid god's wrath.

The WBC gang,

  They do the best job at showing what true christian wackos exsist in this world who believe in the bible as being the word of god.

 The WBC gang quotes it well.  Other hate groups, like Focus on the Anus Family will use the bible to back their hate but not go to the extent that the WBC gang does.  Phelps and crew use their power and belief in the bible as the word of god as a way of telling the other hate groups they don't have what it takes to truly believe in the bible.  Therefore are weaker than Phelps.

  The AFA and CWA use procreation as their frontline, but can't make the step to god hates fags status.  Peter LeBarbera is sinking big time.  Well all these groups suffer from one thing, being seen as the WBC gang.  Phelps himself even said Jerry Falwell was an enabler.  Jerry didn't have the guts to reach the WBC level

  What needs to happen is have Daddy Dobson, Matt Barber, Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps, and the rest get into a big grawl of who is right.

  Fred would be the leader, as he hasn't been denouced from the rest of the pack, and the others don't want to be seen as week. this will link them all to the nuttyiness of the whole group

 The questions that need to be asked,  What makes the AFA different from the WBC Gang?   CWA asked the same thing,   This would be fun to watch.

I wonder...

since all these innocent people are supposedly being killed by their god because their god hates fags, does that mean that if all homosexuality were to disappear that death would disappear, too?  Or would their god get pissed off about something else then?
