The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

NBA great Charles Barkley: sick of 'fake Christians'

by: Pam Spaulding

Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 09:00:00 AM EST

Say it, brother. How many ways can you say Charles Barkley is the bomb? A gay-affirming  black man in American team sports, calling out the bigotry of the fundies, and bluntly blows them out of the water on live TV. Look at what he said on CNN.

Hey, I live in Arizona. I have got great respect for Senator McCain. Great respect. But I don't like the way the Republicans are taking this country. Every time I hear the word "conservative," it makes me sick to my stomach, because they're really just fake Christians, as I call them. That's all they are. But I just -- I'm going to vote Democratic no matter what.

...BLITZER: All right. One quick point before I let you go. You used the phrase "fake Christians" for conservatives. Explain what you're talking about.

BARKLEY: Well, I think they -- they want to be judge and jury. Like, I'm for gay marriage. It's none of my business if gay people want to get married. I'm pro-choice. And I think these Christians -- first of all, they're supposed to be -- they're not supposed to judge other people. But they're the most hypocritical judge of people we have in this country. And it bugs the hell out of me. They act like their Christians. And they're not forgiving at all.

BLITZER: So you're going to get a lot of feedback on this one, Charles.

BARKLEY: They can't do anything to me. I don't work for them.

BLITZER: You feel comfortable saying all that?

BARKLEY: I feel very comfortable saying I'm pro-choice, and I'm for gay marriage. Very comfortable.

BLITZER: But you can't lump all these conservatives as being fake. A lot of them obviously -- most of them are very, very sincere in their religious beliefs.

BARKLEY: Well, they should read the part about they're not supposed to judge other people. They forget that one when it doesn't fit what they want it to say. "

A fundie press release was quickly issued blasting the former NBA star. It's after the jump.
Pam Spaulding :: NBA great Charles Barkley: sick of 'fake Christians'
Yawn - bleatings from some outfit calling itself The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission:
"Charles Barkley revealed an unfortunate lack of understanding of the Bible and Christian morality by attacking pro-life and pro-family conservatives as 'fake Christians,'" said Dr. Gary Cass, Chairman and CEO of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission. "Barkley rips one phrase of the Bible from its context, and then asserts that anyone who is opposed to abortion or gay marriage is a 'fake Christian.'"

Dr. Cass continues, "We respect Barkley as an expert on basketball, but he is obviously not an expert on Christian moral theology. The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission calls on Barkley to apologize for his hateful remarks. We are hopeful that he will do the right thing."

..."For Barkley to think that Christians cannot have an opinion about matters of public policy and personal morality is astonishing," said Cass. "Jesus forbids judging by hypocritical double standards, but he requires Christians to make just and sound judgments everyday according to biblical precepts."

"Ironically, Barkley engaged in the very activity of judging others that he condemned in conservatives. Barkley's words reveal an unfortunate, irrational anti-Christian bigotry."

Barkley's putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to politics -- in the interview he told Wolf that he plans to run for governor of Alabama. There is a seven-year residency requirement, and he purchased a home there last year, which would make him eligible in 2014. That will be one race many will look forward to watching.

Sweet
I saw it yesterday.  Jaw droppingly good stuff.  We need more of this on many fronts.

Enjoy.

Mom always told me I was special and I believed her.

I Would Love
to shake Charles Barkley's hand! Way to go!You tell 'em!

Sir Charles Rocks.
He can be annoying as all hell, but he's always upfront and out there.

http://www.dyssonance.com  Breaking all the rules...

Go Charles!!
And of course, the right wing blogs are all over this attacking Barkley personally. He forgot to say that there is a great lack of introspection when it comes to these folks.

Oh God forbid no! Barkley had NO REASON to call folks "fake Christians." He simply did it because he HATES America and it's Christian heritage (eyes rolling).

Paging Ted Haggard!!!

Who will Joe America
heed more, Charles Barkley or Gary Cass?  Barkley is the coolest.

It's interesting that Wolf is ready to play questioning journalist to someone supporting choice and marriage equality. Where's his questioning on everything else CNN covers.

And I can't imagine America being beyond racism by 2014. Not when Faux News is referring to Obama as "Halfrican." Barkley sounds ready and able to fight though.

Electricity's for light bulbs!

bravo
Outstanding! I am going to link to this post right now. I generally find Sir Charles fairly annoying, but he's absolutely right on this one! Bravo!

My hero
"My hero" has always been defined by me as "someone who is willing to speak the truth, no matter the consequences". I don't know that much about Barkley outside of this clip. I know he used to play basketball. But what he said here is true, and I commend him for saying it, and having no fear or concern for who gives a damn. It's just the truth. Fakes. Phonies. That's what they are.

"The right most treasured by civilized men is the right to be let alone."--Justice Louis Brandeis

Tell It Charles !! yah baby

This man is rock solid, i think i am in love !! Its time these "bleaters" as you call them just take their "persecuted" butts back to their pews and keep their beliefs private. They are the first to whine defamation - they ought to walk a mile in a pair of lgbT shoes , read the NEW testament, then think about how persecuted they are..And wow , having someone firmly take a stand - like Barkely WE need more celebrities doing that. We really do.  And blitzer can that man ask a question without loading it ? - never mind rhetorical question.

YAY Charles!
It was great to see a public figure (even an athelete) stand up proudly and say he's pro-choice and in favor of gay marraige...Charles is THE MAN! I have a much higher opinion of him after seeing him on Wolfie this morning...

Charles Rocks!
It was also great to see him vent the frustration much of the rest of us in this country have felt lately about the "Christian" right playing the martyr roll and simultaneously trying to force their brand of "Faux" Christianity down the throats of the rest of us...

"You feel comfortable saying all that?"
Ffs, Blitzer needs to get over it.  Superstitious right-wing barbarians are all over the airwaves and the networks 24x7 spewing the most filthy lies imaginable about "liberals", "leftists", "feminists", and "activists" of all stripes.  Yet Wolf starts trembling nervously when someone dares to call out the truth about the authoritarian theocrats of the GOP.  "B-b-b-b-b-b-but it's their religion!"

"Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain" -- Iowa state motto

Sir Charles, et. al.

"Dr. Cass continues, 'We respect Barkley as an expert on basketball, but he is obviously not an expert on Christian moral theology.'"

Hmmmmm....

Lets extend this shall we?  Try: We (theoretically) respect Cass, et al. as 'experts' on Christian moral theology, but they are obviously not experts on the fitness of LGBT Americans to have access to equality under American (or any civil) law.  So, we kindly ask them to but the f*ck out of our lives.

(Sorry - I had to qualify 'law', 'respect' and 'experts', lest I get conveniently quoted out of context by the christofascists.)

As for Sir Charles, I will say that I always appreciated his talent on the court (moreso, of course, during the years he played for the Houston Rockets) and his general status as a 'character' (he did a pretty good job when he hosted SNL, even being willing to appear with RuPaul), but I was always leery of what 'the real Sir Charles' might be if he did finally follow through and wander into politics - as a Repug or Dem or whatever.

I will say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this and hereby give him an 'atta-Chuck'!

Fake is as Fake Is
Gee, I thought all of them were fake, just like their legendary founding prophet, the mysterious (and probably non-existent) Reb Yeshua.

Against stupidity, even the angels fight in vain. --Schiller

by Cass's own words
By Cass's own words he says that Jesus forbids judgement by HYPOCRITICAL standards. Jesus also commanded that one treat their neighbor as THEY want to be treated because THAT precept is THE most sound on which to make other judgements.
To make WOMEN'S medical needs around birth and family planning makes women exceptions to that commandment AND party to hypocrisy on the risks that only a woman can bear.

Same goes for marriage. Marriage is made it's most noble, supported and genuine by the solemnity in which the two people involved commit to the VOWS of marriage.
The Christians complaining about Charles Barkley forget more than a few things and him pointing in out isn't hypocrisy. It's an OBSERVATION, made valid by the very activity these same Christians engage in.
Barkley simply isn't so phony and fake himself, and has a razor's edge way of pointing it out in others.
So what?
Apparently Cass and company can dish it out, but can't take it.

Hero
Charles Barkley has just become my favorite sports hero.

Cass is all up in arms because the truth hurts.  No one has said the American Taliban can't have an opinion.  However, they believe their opinion of "public policy and personal morality" should be the law of the land; which thereby affects the lives of everyone, not just themselves.

If they're so opposed to abortion or gay marriage because of their beliefs, by all means, they shouldn't have one.  But, they should kindly let everyone else have the right to form their own moral "opinion" or choice that they seem to want to reserve only for themselves.

Charles Barkley, hero?

Just as he famously said in that Nike commercial, "I am not a role model," neither is he a hero, if you still understand a hero to be someone of great courage who risks or sacrifices his life for others.  But I love that he speaks his mind.  And he has surely come a heck of a long way from the days when he would do something obnoxious like spit at someone courtside (and hit a child by mistake).

Over the years, he has said some of the funniest things and made some very refreshing observations about life in America, particularly for blacks.  You could fill a book with his witticisms. When the issue of gays has come up in the past few years, as I recall he has always been supportive.  I keep hoping he'll give cover for other athletes to not be afraid to speak out.

Regarding running for governor of Alabama, his home state - Barkley has been claiming for years and years he's going to do that.  His penchant for losing millions of dollars annually gambling would surely be an issue - among many lol - in such a race.

this may sound like a silly question, but...
has he declared himself to be either a dem or repub?

He used to identify as a Republican but
I don't know if that is still the case.

The coolest
Presently at the top of my list of gubernatorial campaigns to which I'd contribute money.

How sweet it would be for him to become Governor of Alabama, when a classic fake Christian, Roy Moore, did not succeed in his own quest.
