The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Oklahoma's Sally Kern is defiant as ever

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Mar 10, 2008 at 15:09:43 PM EDT

After all the calls and emails, take a look at this reaction from unrepentant homophobe Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern (sallykern@okhouse.gov). (Via Oklahomans for Equality's Laura Belmonte):
Oklahoma House of Representatives
Media Division
March 10, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Contact: State Rep. Sally Kern
Capitol: (405) 557-7348

Kern Responds to Activist Criticisms

OKLAHOMA CITY - State Rep. Sally Kern (R-Oklahoma City) issued the following statement today in response to the criticisms of homosexual activists who have objected to a recent speech she gave on their efforts to promote their agenda at both the federal and state level.

"To put this simply, as a Christian I believe homosexuality is not moral. Obviously, you have the right as an American to choose that lifestyle, but I also have the right to express my views and my fellow Oklahomans have the right to debate these issues.

"In recent years homosexual activists have begun to aggressively promote their agenda through the political process, often providing substantial financing to candidates who agree with their views, including many running for state legislative races. National publications such as Time, The Atlantic and USA Today have noted that trend. That is their right, just as it is my right to voice opposition to their agenda, which I have been asked to do at several public forums in recent months. That's what democracy is all about. It appears some homosexual activists believe only one group is allowed a voice in this debate. I disagree.

It continues below the fold.
Pam Spaulding :: Oklahoma's Sally Kern is defiant as ever
"A vigorous debate on an issue is not 'hate speech' - it's free speech. I have made clear my opposition to the agenda of homosexual activists, but I have never endorsed or supported any hateful action targeting individuals on the other side of this debate and never will. The fact that many gay rights activists claim anyone opposing their agenda is engaging in 'hate speech' says more about them than me.

"Most Oklahomans are socially conservative and believe marriage is a sacred institution, the union of one man and one woman, and that the traditional family is worth protecting and preserving. When I campaigned for office, I promised my constituents to stand up for those values, and I do not apologize for keeping my word."

Earlier posts on Kern here. The original unhinged video is here.
Studies show, no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted for more than, you know, a few decades. . .

...They are going after our young children, as young as two years of age, to try to teach them that the homosexual lifestyle is an acceptable lifestyle.

One of my colleagues said We don't have a gay problem in our community...well you know what, that is so dumb. If you have cancer in your little toe, do you just say that I'm going to forget about it since the rest of you is fine? It spreads! This stuff is deadly and it is spreading. It will destroy our young people and it will destroy this nation.

UPDATE: I received this letter from reader Rev. Russell Mark, who is actively involved with the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists (www.wabaptists.org). He's not a spokesperson for AWAB,  but he said "I can say many of us have had our belly full of this theo-fascism.  It is, in itself, a form of terrorism. We have to strike back in a language they might possibly understand." This is the letter that he sent to Rep. Kern:
State Representative Kern:

As a concerned citizen; as a Baptist minister and as a Christian, I applaud your intent to protect our children, our communities and our country. Afterall, you swore an oath to uphold the law and the Constitution of the State of Oklahoma and to serve your constituents. I am concerned, however, that in your zeal you have fallen into the trap of so many well-meaning extremists and that is to dehumanize your preceived enemies. To do so, no doubt, is to make them easier to attack, afterall, no one really quibbles at squashing bugs. However, you may be familiar with the recent murders of a 15 year old boy in Oxnard, CA and the murder of another teenager in Fort Lauderdale, FL. These young men, among the many people that are attacked each month in this country, had the audacity to present themselves publicly as being gay. For their sin at such a very young age some well intentioned, god-fearing individual, took it into their hands to destroy the enemy. The CA boy was killed by his peer; a teenage young man that was taught by his elders at home and at church that gays are the scourge of society. Yes, he snuffed out a fag for Jesus. Just like you teach.

Though your recent public words did not call for murdering gays, there may be those that take your authority to heart and kill the enemy. You said to your constituents that you had been a teacher, but a teacher is first a student, yet your words were filled with idiocy and lies. So are you are a poor student that can't research and find truth for yourself? Do you only repeat what your elders have taught you? I seriously doubt if you've ever had the courage to meet with a gay group of anykind and talked about your concerns, or more, actually learn first hand about those you think are your enemy. Instead you stand at a distance and throw rocks and incite others to throw rocks, or worse. For that, you are a coward and a bully and need to fully understand that the blood of every young gay man and woman that is physically or psychologically injured or dies in this country is on your head. These are the real stakes, Represtentative Kern, and yes, words do matter.

As a Christian I have to ask what kind of god do you worship that you would seek the murder of children? Does your Jesus call you to spread lies, repeat gossip and inuindo about people you don't even know? Does your Jesus teach you to spread hate and to live in fear and teach others to live in fear? So very odd isn't it that your Jesus and my Jesus are so very different. You see, my Jesus teaches the power of love; to confront my enemies face to face; to embrace them and seek to understand them; to find commonality. Out of humilty, seek understanding and out of love, to not be afraid. Even in my anger at what you have said, I would seek to understand how you, my sister-in-Christ would say such ignorant, offensive and incitful things. How do you take a few obscure passages and totally ignore all that Christ teaches and seek to bludgeon an entire people? How do you do this and then go to church and worship the Christ who gave everything to reconcile the world? What about bigotry and fear-mongering is Christ-like? How dare you treat the cross with such distain! And how dare you misuse the authority of your office. Be ashamed Representative Kern. Be very ashamed. More than your constituents are watching; God is watching.

Lastly I would say that it is not too late to learn from your grievious error and to make amends. Our faith teaches us a lot about forgiveness; how to seek it and how to find it. Afterall, the Gospel is about reconciliation with God, ourselves and with one another. This choice is yours.

All "activists"
So, everyone who disagrees with her is a "homosexual activist"?

I'm afraid Kern is about to learn that most of the Oklahomans who find her hate speech offensive are straight and Christian.

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

about Oklahomans
I asked my straight Christian Oklahoman friend what she and her husband thought about Kern's comments.  They found it offensive too.

Anyone who is out of the closet is by default, a "homosexual activist."
By accepting ourselves, we support the "equaltiy homosexual agenda."

"a vigorous debate on the issue"?
how was her trying to hid in a private room of 50 like-minded people "vigorous debate"?  i do hope that some Okies call her on this debate bluff, and challenge her to a serious public 1-on-1 debate.

I wonder if she will debate like a state rep who happens to be christian, or a christian who is being payed to be a state rep.

Yes! A real debate!
Let's use dialogue and our facts to fight her.

Some caveats
I noted on my blog:

http://harryfourthuniverse.blo...

that I think Kerns' words, while ignorant and hateful, should be considered protected under First Amendment. I noted that hate speech CAN have harmful effects, but I'm thinking more about how her articulated views demonstrate proof that she is a lawmaker motivated by bigotry.

This truth about her character should be sung accross the land.

She used her free speech. Now let's use her words to show who she really is and why she should lose office in the next election.

More proof in the fact that she stands by her words.

If only all bigoted politicians made our job this easy.

definitely
I welcome her free expression of this bigotry - it deserves the sunlight of scutiny. She needs to see that she doesn't live in a bubble and that people of all stripes and religious or non-religious persuasions don't have her narrow world view.

That she doesn't like the public's reaction to her free-form expression of homophobia is simply too bad, too sad.

I look forward to her next public tirade.

I feel sorry for the LGBT citizens of OK that have to put up with her crap, and wish she could be bounced from her seat next election.

yes indeed
She was unopposed in 2006 and won in 2004 62/36. But if we get someone in the Republican Primary against her, maybe we can make politics more civil in the state.

Free Speech and Its Consequences
Kern: "A vigorous debate on an issue is not 'hate speech' - it's free speech."

It is not surprising that Rep Kern is attempting to term the debate as about "free speech."  It is not about free speech.  No one has denied her right to say the things she has said ... except to point out that she is partly responsible for Lawrence King and Simmie Williams' deaths.

She just wants speech free of consequences.  She wants to be able to say anything she wants and to be taken at face value.  Wrong!

Her facts are wrong.  Her conclusions are wrong.  Her reasoning is wrong.  So she has to face the consequences of her idiocy.  So be it.

AND she has to face her responsibility for the murders of King and Williams and others and the numerous gay bashings also.  There is blood on her hands.  She has all the freedom of speech she wants.  She also has all the consequences for that free speech she deserves.

The fight for full LGBT Equality is NOT over.  Be strong and be ready to really fight!  And read my blog in your spare time! http://ravenhurst-ravenhurst.b...

The foundations of her idiocy...
She keeps calling it a lifestyle and a choice.

1.  I have a life, not a lifestyle.  Just as there is no one heterosexual lifestyle, there is no one gay lifestyle.  Everyone's life, beliefs, hobbies, activities, are substantially different. There is no Jewish lifestyle, no straight lifestyle, no Baptist lifestyle, no Black lifestyle, no Latino lifestyle, why is there a gay lifestyle?

2.  I did not choose to be gay, I was born that way.  And, there is mounting scientific evidence that being gay is physiological and innate at birth.  At this time, this evidence can be called conclusive. I knew I was gay at 7, even though I did not know the words gay or homosexual.  A 7 year old is incapable, under law, of making ANY informed decision.

These are the points we really need to do battle on.  These two falsehoods are the basis for 90% of anti GLBT hate.

vigorous bigotry is a lifestyle
the Hateful Agenda; the Hate Lifestyle

she has no business
being in politics.  it's OUTRAGEOUSLY hypocritical for her to bleat about her right to use her position to spout off her personal "christian beliefs"--her fundamentalist agenda--while simultaneously foaming at the mouth about gays holding office as being part of some homosexual agenda.  who exactly has the agenda here?

although to give her some credit here, that's really sweet of her to talk about our rights to speak in public and make financial contributions to the campaigns of our choosing.  for further clarification, i'd love for her to provide us with a more detailed list of the rights we're entitled to versus the ones we're not entitled to, as taxpaying citizens under the law.  her tirade only made a few of them clear (not holding publc office, not teaching, not joining GSAs, etc).

The gays stole my lunch money

Just substitute
"religious zealot" for "homosexual" in her statement.  See how nice that sounds?

You're right, that does have a more accurate ring to it...
"In recent years religious zealots have begun to aggressively promote their agenda through the political process, often providing substantial financing to candidates who agree with their views, including many running for state legislative races. National publications such as Time, The Atlantic and USA Today have noted that trend. That is their right, just as it is my right to voice opposition to their agenda, which I have been asked to do at several public forums in recent months. That's what democracy is all about. It appears some religious zealots believe only one group is allowed a voice in this debate. I disagree.

I would also suggest that "religious supremacists" and "dominionists" would work equally well as substitutes.

Keep up the heat
She needs to defend herself more in the media.

The best way to bleed this story and expose her idiocy is to keep up the pressure and keep making her explain herself.

Good point
The best way to deal with this is to expose her and keep pressure on her for her behavior. Let people see her for what she really is.

Ah...the use of the "immoral" word. . .code name from conservatives
that they don't believe in "free speech." See, historically, those "conservatives" label as "immoral" are not allowed to engage in free speech to advocate for their position, which is the reason why there was so much censorship of gay picnic ads in newspapers (for example) for so many years.

So when Kern claims this is a "vigorous debate" she is, of course, full of shit. She isn't interested in a "vigorous debate" at all, because conservatives don't believe "immoral" people should be allowed to engage in free speech.

This is where the con-artist con-servative argument about their special rights to free speech falls apart. They'll tell you in an instant that anyone they "believe" is "immoral" does not have the same rights they possess.

Perhaps our approach should be in repeating over and over that, as a spiritual people, we believe Sally Kern is "immoral" and unfit to speak for her district and hold public office. At least we'd be engaging in a "vigorous debate" right along the same lines that she is promoting about us.

The difference is...
That we can define how and why they are being immoral.

However, every single time I have ever confronted someone on the "morality" of homosexuality, they've acquiesced to the notion that if it weren't defined as "sin," they would have no problem with it.

"Morality," in this instance, is code for moral relativism.

[ Parent ]
Sort of like a reverse strawman
She's not defending her original words, she's defending a more palatable generalized description of her overall beliefs.

I want to see her directly address, or defend, or assertion that the gays are more of a threat that terrorism.

Straights only have a life
and we get to have an agenda. I didn't really snap to that until now but NOW I may need a personal assistant. Let's see. That could be an interesting ad.

The citizens of Oklahoma now have a moral imperative
I don't live in Oklahoma. Many of us don't. But for those that do, you now have a new call: de-elect this State Senator.

Only you, the Oklahoma people, can do it. It's your government. Your elected representatives. Anyone outside can only cry and scream (and I'm doing that).

YOU must save your state.

We'll help in anyway you ask. But you must lead.

To the people of Oklahoma, good luck. Tell us what we can do.

Metal Competency tests for State and National Representatives...
I think it is time for a standardized mental competency examination for ALL of our representatives.

I really have the feeling that about 4% - 6% of them would FAIL any standard psychiatric mental competency examination.

Enough is enough of the CERTIFIABLY INSANE people ruling us when they should be hospitalized and helped with their obvious mental illness.

Sally Kern is ILL, she suffers from a clinical condition, a PHOBIA and it causes her to ignore reality.  She is insane and in need of competent medical help.

No One Will Tell Me What This Homosexual Agenda Is...
Somehow, every Xtian knows it, but I must have been left off the email list.

As for her claim of free speech, I do believe in free speech. However, were she to pay attention to the laws of the secular government in which she serves, the first amendment is not without its limits.

We don't have a "gay problem". We have a "fundie problem".
1. Kern said that "homosexuality is worse than terrorism" and other stupid remarks.  Even though she has the freedom to say it, we do have to discredit her for that remark.  It's the same as Don Imus' "nappy-headed hos".  Look at the negative impact caused by that statement.

2. Is it me, or do those who have copies of the "Homosexual Agenda" are closeted fundies?

Protecting? From What?
"Most Oklahomans are socially conservative and believe marriage is a sacred institution, the union of one man and one woman, and that the traditional family is worth protecting and preserving.

They have yet to produce evidence of one heterosexual marriage being destroyed because a gay couple or lesbian couple might be allowed to marry.  Also, if gay marriage was legal nationwide, there'd still be the same number of heterosexual divorces that there are now.  One does not affect the other, unless you're a closet homosexual in a heterosexual marriage, like Larry Craig, Bob Allen, etc. and then the heterosexual marriage was a sham from the beginning!

This apocalyptic, end of the world as we know it, Pat Robertsonesque, paranoia of theirs is starting to get old.

Which countries that are no longer in exsistance fell due to homosexuality?

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Countries
Well, according to Christian Revisionists, they seem to contend that the Greek and Roman Empires fell because homosexuality was practiced and tolerated.

Of course, they seem to conveniently forget that the Romans conquering the Greeks or the Germanic tribes conquering the Romans had anything to do with it.

One other thing they don't like to mention is that the state religion of Rome when it was conquered was. . .tah dah, Christianity!

Statement from Oklahomans for Equality on presser tomorrow
Press release out about a news conference tomorrow:
Oklahomans for Equality (OkEq) deplores the sentiments expressed by Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern (R-Oklahoma City) in a YouTube video  now generating a firestorm. National and local media outlets are closely covering the controversy sparked by Kern's claim that homosexuality is "the biggest threat that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam."

In a triple play of intolerance, Rep. Kern offends lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans, thousands of men and women defending the United States from terrorist attacks, and Muslims worldwide. Yet, she remains completely unapologetic, citing her right to freedom of speech and claiming, "I have never endorsed or supported any hateful action targeting individuals on the other side of this debate and never will."

Rep. Kern's legislative track record belies her remarks. In 2006, Rep. Kern sponsored legislation that would have denied funding to public libraries that refused to segregate books addressing LGBT themes. Rep. Kern has repeatedly used her public office to demonize LGBT Oklahomans and to attempt to deny them the exact same civil liberties she now defends so passionately. This is the height of hypocrisy.

"OkEq firmly supports Rep. Kern's constitutional right to express her views, but vociferously objects to the actions she takes to prevent LGBT Oklahomans for attaining justice and equality. When elected officials use their power to defame entire categories of people, they abuse the freedom of speech embedded in the 1st Amendment and violate their responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of their constituents." asserts Justice Waidner, OkEq Executive Director.

OkEq calls upon the many fair-minded members of the Oklahoma legislature to condemn Rep. Kern's comments and to pass immediately a state hate crimes law that encompasses sexual orientation and gender identity & expression. We ask for the House and Senate leadership to allow the five hate crimes bills currently before them to receive full consideration on the floor.

On Tuesday, March 11th at 2 p.m., Oklahomans for Equality will participate in a press conference organized by the Cimarron Alliance Foundation. The press conference will be held at the Church of the Open Arms at 3131 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Oklahoma City.

Perhaps some good can come from this after all...
If it spurs the state to enact hate-crime legislation.

[ Parent ]
good proactive response
yes, the.sue,
I agree this is a good response by OkEq to use the highprofile overthe top antigay screed to show people why hate crimes are necessary and to push for them.  Good luck people, all people, of Oklahoma.

[ Parent ]
i don't need protected from muslims worldwide, thank you
it makes me more than a bit queasy that the support message from the oklahomans for equality states that muslims worldwide are somehow a threat people need protected from.   no better than ms kern claiming people need protected from gays.  stereotyping is an ugly tool generally used to dehumanize "the other" and doesn't sound any better when the word "muslim" is used instead of gay.  i agree that defaming entire classes of people is a bad idea, and just wonder why the statement does just that.

[ Parent ]
That's another group she offended.
The OkEq statement says that Rep. Kern offended three separate groups of people: LGBT Americans, people fighting terrorists, and Muslims worldwide.  They're not saying that Muslims are a threat.

[ Parent ]
oops, my apologies

I'm not deadly, just a bit gay Mrs. Kern!
"It spreads! This stuff is deadly and it is spreading. It will destroy our young people and it will destroy this nation."

Actually Mrs. Kern, it's attitudes like yours that is destroying this nation. While you may have your "moral" convictions, you have no right to force it on the rest of us.

This is why I believe the Bible should come with a disclaimer: "For personal use only"

Sally Kern = An Insult to Humankind
I believe that Sally Kern, like anyone else, enjoys the freedom to speak her mind.  She undeniably has that right.  But there is a difference between having a right and exercising it and being right in a moral sense.  I would think that is self-evident, but going by the number of individuals who have defended Sally Kern's statements by pointing out that she has the right to express her views, I suppose it bears repeating.

That being said, I am sorry that there are people like Sally Kern living in the world and believe it would be a very much improved world if she - and people sharing her views - were out of it, just as I believe it would be a better planet if there were no racists, anti-Semites, rapists or serial killers.  If these words seem intemperate, I nonetheless regard them as appropriate and proportional to the offense given.

When I read the words uttered by this human filth masquerading as an elected public official, I could not help but think of Lawrence King, the California 8th grader shot to death by a classmate last month because he was gay. Or of Matthew Shepard, who ten years ago in 1998 in Laramie, Wyoming was crucified and left to die by two individuals sharing Sally Kern's views of homosexuality.

So, "Ms." Kern, here's a bit of the "gay agenda" especially for you: the opinions you have shared with what you supposed (wrongly) was a select audience of your fellow fascists are now there for all the world to see. I can only assume that the people who elected you and the political party that promoted your election share those opinions.

I hope the impact of your speech follows you to your dying day.

God damn you, Sally Kern, and God damn what you represent.

If I had spewed
similar lies about blacks or Jews, I would be afraid to leave my house.
I hope she is. There is such a thing as karma. Sometimes it takes awhile, and sometimes it doesn't  BTW, I'm 62 (already 20 years beyond the date she would have had me die) and in a 15 year relationship with another man, who is not in any way a terrorist (nor am I). But keep pushing it Sally, and you could push a few people over the edge.

Hairdresser on fire

Has anyone
been monitoring the News9.com Oklahoma online news source that seems to be covering this story extensively? It seems that some people who have commented on their topix forum have mentioned that Sally Kern has a gay son. The News9.com people asked Sally about it and her answer was, "I don't think so . . . he's never said that to his father, he's never said that to his brother. You need to ask him that."
The reporter goes on to say they have tried to contact the son with no success.

"I don't think so? He's never said that to his father?" This is the deniability equivalent of damning someone with faint praise. Maybe the boy isn't gay, but she doesn't say that.

This could get very interesting.

YouTube is part of the homosexual agenda!
The horrors just keep coming, gays are everywhere!  Maybe even be under the bed, between the communist and muslim!
From her husband's church's site:
THE PASTOR'S HEART...

Wow! What a service we had Sunday. My wife, Sally, was attacked this weekend by hundreds of pro-homosexual e-mails from all over the world in response to quotes that were published on U-Tube, a pro-gay website. The e-mails after 3 days have risen to 3000. Much of the messages are filled with filth and hate. One such e-mail said, "You should have been aborted before you were born."  I told the people about the situation and then preached a message on having God dwell amongst by following Paul's instructions in Philippians 4:1-9. During our prayer time in the middle of the service, Jack and Phyllis Poe (chaplains to our police) came up to the choir and hugged Sally and prayed for her. Sally is their state representative. At the end of the services SterlingArntzen had Sally and I sit on the front pew so the people could surround us and pray. Gary Pound, our deacon chairman lead the prayer. It was a beautiful time.

After the service, Sally and I went to lunch with the Poes. They told us an amazing thing. They knew nothing about what was happening to Sally when they came to worship at Olivet. They just felt a strong urging of the Lord to attend. After hearing what was happening to Sally they knew  and we knew the Lord had sent them to lift Sally up. It was a confirmation to us all that God is doing something and is working in our behalf. It was obviously one of those "God things" we refer to at times. The church praying for us was a tremendous up lifting experience as well.

My America includes LGBT families.

Sally Was Attacked!?!
Just who started this attack? It certainly wasn't the LGBT community. I'd never even heard of this pitiful excuse for a woman before Saturday. Geez, this is enough to turn a person's stomach!

what's SOOO hypocritical about it is that
she went on the defensive talking about how it was her right--her free speech right--and that this was all part of the "debate".  but the retorts to her calling us "a cancer", and her claims that GLBTs are targeting children, are being termed as "attacks".

obviously, these two yahoos don't know the meaning of false witnessing.  and you're right--last i checked, she's the one who started this with her bigoted, pitiful, cowardly ranting that she thought would go unchecked.  i'd say god's trying to tell her something by opening this can of worms up.  she has a chance to redeem herself but she's turning her back on him.

yup, i like to fight fire with fire when it comes to "knowing" what god wants for people.

The gays stole my lunch money

ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK - In Jesus' name.
Not even a single word about the merit of those emails.

She couldn't possibly have done or said anything wrong, and if anyone says otherwise, accuse them of being pro-gay -- AKA pro-nefarious "homosexual agenda."

Despicable, both of them.

Thank God for Pam & Co
I'm just so thankful to know that i'm not alone.  When I read about the bad things people are doing to gays, i come here & read everybody's posts and I feel better.  I'm here, ready to fight for our cause.
