Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Condi lauds Obama for opening the discussion about race

by: Pam Spaulding

Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 14:30:00 PM EDT

I think it speaks volumes that a Bush loyalist like Condi Rice, because of her heritage, sees Obama's speech on race much differently than her colleagues. I have wondered what she (or Colin Powell, for example) would say publicly about Obama's speech and -- the need to discuss the country's problems with race that this campaign has laid bare. She referred to the legacy of slavery as the country's "birth defect." (The Washington Times):
"Black Americans were a founding population," she said. "Africans and Europeans came here and founded this country together - Europeans by choice and Africans in chains. That's not a very pretty reality of our founding."

As a result, Miss Rice told editors and reporters at The Washington Times, "descendants of slaves did not get much of a head start, and I think you continue to see some of the effects of that."

"That particular birth defect makes it hard for us to confront it, hard for us to talk about it, and hard for us to realize that it has continuing relevance for who we are today," she said.

Miss Rice declined to comment on the campaign, saying only that it was "important" that Mr. Obama "gave it for a whole host of reasons."

There are ties that bind, despite a gulf of political differences -- when you see this issue of race relations raised by Barack Obama and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice --  people of conscience should take note that we should stop playing political football with this issue and start doing the hard work to heal this, rather than engage in a downward spiral of denial and no-so-veiled vitriol (you hear that, Pat Buchanan and Bill Kristol?).

And in the "Are Americans This Stupid?" department: Poll: 1 in 10 Voters Mistakenly Think Obama Is Muslim. How on earth, with the huge flap over the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's remarks, can anyone still think the Illinois senator is a Muslim?! In this poll, even those familiar with the Wright debacle are as likely to believe it as those who are not. And is this surprising --

Conservatives, less educated voters and white evangelical Protestants are likelier to believe Obama is Muslim, as are people from the South, the Midwest and rural areas, the poll showed.

It's a great quote
"Black Americans were a founding population," she said. "Africans and Europeans came here and founded this country together..."

And a great reminder.  Good for her.

Here's another great quote: "What I would like understood as a black American is that black Americans loved and had faith in this country even when this country didn't love and have faith in them - and that's our legacy," she said.

...

By the way, Rev. Wright could be a Muslim, too!  I mean, we just don't know for sure....

I agree
If you had asked me this morning to estimate the likelihood that I would be moved by a Rice quote today, I would have come up with a small number multiplied by ten raised to a pretty negative number.

It was hope inspiring to read this.

Electricity's for light bulbs!

Haha
I had a similar thought when I saw the article.

I think
the 1 in 10 also accounts for those who WANT people to mistakenly believe Obama is a Muslim.  I wish someone would ask Obama if he thinks Hillary is a Muslim, and he could have Clintonesque reply:  "No, I don't believe she is. If she says she isn't then I take her word on it".

Obama Speech
I think Obama's speech on race will go over the heads of most Americans.  Its real value, however, is in striking intelligent people like Condi and Colin as important and significant because it will discourage them from being McCain's veep.

possible jockeying for VP - and so?
It's funny that more than one person has brought this story to my attention after this post went up:

BREAKING: Condi Rice Flirts With VP Possibility - Speaks to Grover Norquist's Wednesday Group Meeting

As if to signal that her comments are an attempt to land the GOP VP slot. And so what if it is? I'm sure that many on the right are not happy with her blunt assessment about the need to address race, it's hardly an issue for the Bill Kristols on the right who are running screaming with their pants on fire from the matter. I can only imagine what the Freepi (who worship Condi) are saying right now.

Whether you think Dr. Rice is evil, incompetent or a tool of the Bush Administration, as sick as our country is about race, it's meaningful that any high ranking person of color can and should use their platform to address race relations more widely in a positive manner.

That's why I think we need to stay away from handling this as a largely right/left issue (note the ease with which people harped on Buchanan when racism is blatant, with more hand-wringing or outright denial when it comes from the left in more subtle ways). Both sides have a lot of work to do in this area, as there is enough implicit and explicit bias to go around that is equally poisonous to the future of this country.

Does it mean I would vote for her if she was on a McCain ticket? Of course not. But for those of us out there who know what it is to be the on the other side of bias - and it happens to POC who are wealthy, young, old, Republican or Democrat, that's the difference in seeing the invitation to expand the dialogue regardless of political affiliation is meaningful. She didn't have to say anything on the matter at all and no one would have thought anything about it, given this administration's woeful record.

it would be fantastic if she does become the vp candidate
given that she is taking part in the dialog.  for that alone i would welcome her addition to the ticket.  and of course she would be only the 2nd women in history to run for vp.  she would have a unique opportunity to address the multi-layered social problems this country faces.  i would never vote for her, but i would welcome the conversation her presence on the ticket would certainly spark.

s
It would be remarkable for Condi to be the VP candidate... a tremendous historical moment.  She is certainly qualified. The reason that I don't want her to be on the ticket is only that I think McCain-Rice would be nearly impossible for Obama-*anyone I can think of* to beat.

They believe he is a muslim with a christian racist preacher
they can hold all of these beliefs in their little minds at the same time, without it exploding

Yes, many Americans ARE that stupid
Of course Sen. Obama is not a Muslim. There is, however, a possibility that some Muslims may see him as a Muslim apostate.

Not likely
the fact that his father was briefly a Muslim does not mean he's considered a Muslim by other Muslims.  That's a Freeper bullshit myth.

I've seen lots of rants...
that trumpet Barack HUSSEIN Obama (sometimes leaving off the Barack). There are those on the right who are working hard to portray Obama as an evil Muslim (remember the flack about Obama attending Madrass schools). We shouldn't be surprised when their work is effective. They are the same people portraying us as a danger to children and we know how effective they are in doing that.

Misperceptions on Obama's Religion
With all of the controversy about Rev. Wright and "accusations" of Obama being Muslim, I would have loved to hear him talk about the anti-Muslim attitudes in the United States.  His decision to talk about race was relatively courageous and it would have been even more so to talk about some of the virtues of Islam while correcting the mistake that he is Muslim. He isn't - but many Americans are.   With his masterful speech on race - a sensitive issue for politicians, it would be inspiring and helpful to hear him talk about this divisive issue.  However, it would be risky given the political climate.
