Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Mike Signorile interviews HRC's David Smith on the org's endorsements

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu May 01, 2008 at 07:30:00 AM EDT

David Smith, HRC's VP of Programs, was on The Michelangelo Signorile Show (SIRIUS OutQ - channel 109) on Wednesday, and they went toe-to-toe on the matter of HRC's recent endorsements, notably the nod to Susan Collins of Maine, the lack of an endorsement in the U.S. Senate race, and the Oregon U.S. Senate contest (see clips from their televised debate here).

Smith was also on to rebut the comments of activist and blogger Howie Klein, who wrote a scorching post on the endorsements. It got pretty heated, so stand away from the keyboard lest you receive second degree burns. The interview is in two parts. Mike Signorile has a post up at his blog, The Gist, describing the interview.

Use the players below; here is the MP3 for part 1 | part 2

More below the fold.

Pam Spaulding :: Mike Signorile interviews HRC's David Smith on the org's endorsements
The audio from later in the shows this sounds like it was a gas. Oregon gay Democratic activist and founding member of HRC, Terry Bean, called in pretending to be an average caller - and Mike called him on it. Whew.
After a few calls critical of HRC, Terry Bean, an HRC board member, called in to the show to defend the group. It wasn't clear that he was meaning to identify himself as associated with the group at first -- he called himself only by his first name, "Terry" from Oregon -- but his use of the word "we" to defend the group soon brought it out in the open, and I asked if this "Terry" was indeed Terry Bean, who I knew as an HRC board member.

The conversation became heated as he was clearly frustrated and angry with me for criticizing the group. It seems in the heat of the moment something slipped out: He said that HRC would not endorse anyone in the Oregon race -- not Gordon Smith nor the Democrat running against him -- and would remain neutral in the fall. And he claimed that the two Democrats vying for the nomination -- both very pro-gay, one of them a full supporter of marriage rights -- "understand" why the group needs to remain neutral.

But why on earth would HRC not endorse a pro-gay Democrat and remain neutral in the race? That's even more indefensible than if they actually backed Gordon Smith.

I'm done Opposing HRC, but I'm also done being proud of the LGBT community
If the Human Rights Campaign is still the largest LGBT organization in the country and they continue endorsing candidates like Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins against credible marriage equality candidates, what incentive do other senators have to expand their support for our civil rights platform?

HRC has a strategy and it is a well-thought out strategy that is practiced by many other organizations. Sadly however, we see where this old "good ol' boy" system used by D.C. based organizations have taken us. HRC has an inside the Beltway approach, a well thought out plan that has become one of the reasons D.C. is so out of touch with an increasingly progressive America.

Good plan HRC, as political activism becomes more progressive in our community and in the nation at large, you have a lot of catching up to do.

Leonard Matlovich: He served for 12 years in the US Air Force, received exemplary ratings, won a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His tombstone reads: "Here lies a man who was given a medal for killing two men and a discharge for loving one."

We can all thank
Elizabeth Birch and Hilary Rosen for the direction HRC has gone. Back when they were HRCF they actually focused on issues of importance to the glbt community. Under the leadership of those two, to focus became promoting HRC...period.

[ Parent ]
I'm confused.

Just which 'LGBT community' are you done with?  There are many groups working with increasing acknowledgement and success... it is a learning process for all of us who have not been activists from birth.  Florida just reports a great school bill, but imaging passing it in Tennessee? PFLAG is learning and growing every day, and from what I can see the Victory Fund is also dedicated to helping through our electoral processes.

I agree with G-A-Y it is just a matter of perserverance because right on on our side.

It's the Hammer of JUSTICE,
It's the Bell of FREEDOM,
It's the Song about LOVE between,
my Brothers and my Sisters
...All over this Land.

Again I'll say it...
If you INSIST on billing yourself as the "largest glbt advocacy group in the country," you CANNOT remain nuetral; Especially not in races like Maine and Oregon where there are CLEAR differences between where the candidates stand on advancing glbt equal rights. Can anyone imagine the uproar if the NAACP announced that they were remaining nuetral in an election between a qualified African-American and a non African-American with a so-so record on advancing civil rights?

HRC, either start acting like a TRUE glbt advocacy group and lead or shut up, close shop, and go away.

I was listening
to Michelangelo's show yesterday as I do everyday and I became incredibly annoyed with HRC for a few reasons.

I was already upset with them for throwing the Trans community under the bus on ENDA but yesterday I decided that HRC no longer stands for the things they used to or for the same things I do and made a personal decision to stop supporting them.

What did it for me was the arrogance and hypocrisy of the two people on Michelangelo's show yesterday, especially the second caller who finally identified himself.  They where talking down to not just Mike but the entire LGBT community as if we where too stupid to possibly understand the situation and make an informed decision on our own.  They seemed to believe that we must march in lock-step with all that HRC hands down from on-high.

The hypocrisy shinned through these HRC tools when Mike pressed them further and asked if they would give their own money in support of the candidates that HRC wants us to support.  They both answered NO they would not donate to those candidates.

Besser ein ende mit Schrecken als ein Schrecken ohne ende

Isn't it so typical of HRC?
It's like, they've been playing this way for years. Every time I see one of those @#$% equal signs, I get so mad. HRC has never stood for the idea that all of us are equal in the first place.

There are so many issues they just ain't dealing with that effect those of us not homo-normal. If we can't afford a ticket to the next gala event, we don't exist. That's what it feels like to me.

In fact, I just saw this:

NC-Sen, pres: latest dKos poll

Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 4/28-30. Likely voters. MoE 4% (12/16-18 results)

If 2008 election for U.S. Senate were held today, for whom would you vote for if the choices were between Kay Hagan, the Democrat, and Elizabeth Dole, the Republican?

Dole (R) 48 (46)
Hagan (D) 41 (39)

If 2008 election for U.S. Senate were held today, for whom would you vote for if the choices were between Jim Neal, the Democrat, and Elizabeth Dole, the Republican?

Dole (R) (49) 47
Neal (D) (39) 37

So, lots and lots of progressive democrats around the country are giving support to Neal. The real reason HRC does not is because they are not progressive. Just ask Senator Chuck if you don't believe me.
