Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Mother Schlafly to receive honorary doctorate

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu May 08, 2008 at 22:00:00 PM EDT

Washington University students and faculty are in an uproar over the decision to award anti-gay, anti-feminist Eagle Forum fossil Phyllis Schlafly an honorary doctorate at its May 16 commencement ceremony. A Facebook group created to protest the move has over a thousand members.
Mary Ann Dzuback, the director of the women and gender studies department at Washington University agreed, said it was "grossly inappropriate" for the university to honor Schlafly with a degree.

"She's spent her entire career speaking against women in the workforce and for them remaining in the home," Dzuback said of Schlafly, who rose to prominence during the successful campaign against the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s.

...The university issued a statement Sunday defending its decision, saying it - like many other universities - chooses to honor those "who have become a part of the broad public discourse on vital issues of the times." The statement cited other controversial figures, such as the Rev. Jesse Jackson, whom the school has honored.

Steve Ralls of PFLAG National:
PFLAG and our St. Louis chapter are proud to join those on the ground in Missouri and call on school officials to do the right thing and, as executive director Jody Huckaby said today, "find a more suitable person to applaud."
Steve also points out some of Mother Schlafly's winning cultural touchstones:

On California's SB-77, to protect GLBT students: The legislation "represent[s] a repudiation of 2,000 years of Christian moral teaching on human sexuality, marriage, and the family. The result is that California's schools are now promoting behaviors and lifestyles that are physically and spiritually dangerous for children."

On the idea of any protections for GLBT youth: "The bottom line is, don't count on the courts to protect public school students from being subjected to the promotion of homosexuality."

On sexual harassment laws: "Sexual harassment on the job is not a problem for virtuous women."

Yeah. I think they could locate someone who isn't terminally frozen in the dark ages.

WTF>??
Who decides these things?

Good question
Wash. U. has at least one anti-gay hatemonger (and all-around bullshit spouter) on the faculty....  (scroll down to the "publications" list)

How nice, paying $36K per year to learn at the feet of such sages as this one.

Double whammie for me...
I'm gay AND dyslexic. My dyslexia (a learning disability) did not come to light until recently because I was able to compensate. When I was in high school back in the 80's no one recognized the signs even though they were there (hindsight being 20/20).

Also, looking through his publication list it looks like he doesn't have any graduate students. But that may be because he discourages people from entering the basic sciences because of lack of fundings available (thanks to the Republicans...). No evidence of graduate students anywhere in his online CV either (nothing in the way of personal data either other than birthdate). I'm not familiar with the physics literature, so I don't know the journal rankings.

As for his non-scientific publications...very contrary to someone who is (presumably) taught to be a critical thinker. He even compares the moral culpability of a monogamous gay couple to someone who joins the KKK.

Also, wonder what happened in '86 when he was promoted to full Professor (received tenured?). His career appears to have plateaued and his personal views started coming out...which he should do as well, he screams closet-case (and he needs to update that awful pic from when he was in grad school).

Katz loves lesbians
or at least, he exempts them from his anti-gay screed "In defense of Homophobia".
most of the arguments in this essay refer specifically to male homosexual behavior
typical self-serving sexist asshole - happy to overlook the lezzies because they give him a stiffy.

Dumba** People
..chooses to honor those "who have become a part of the broad public discourse on vital issues of the times."

Stalin, Hilter, Timothy McVeigh, and the Una Bomber were all part of the broad public discourse on vital issues of the times.  O wait, how irresponsible of me to compare them to her.  After all, she didn't use violence to promote her side of the issues.  Even though, she did sorta "incite" violence for her cause by refusing to protect a historically bullied and abused group.

My Bad!

Exactly
My first thoughts were Lester Maddox and George Wallace.

I guess my daughter is not going to Washington University
There is a difference between hosting someone who is simply controversial and hosting someone who has devoted their lives to marginalizing and and discriminating against others.  Phyllis Schlafly is over that line.  Jesse Jackson is controversial but I don't think you can find many people who's life he has made worse (except maybe his own families due to his affair).  The work of Phyllis Schlafly has hurt thousands and continues to hurt them.

My daughter is finishing her junior year in high school.  She has not gotten a B since 5th grade (add that to your statistics if you think gays can't raise awesome kids).  Her college list has included Washington, Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana, and Carthage.  The list just got one shorter if I'm paying for it.

Outrageous
Fred Phelps has "become a part of the broad public discourse on vital issues of the times," also.  Should he be next to receive an honorary degree?  An honorary degree absolutely implies approbation.  Washington University (officially, Washington University in St. Louis) has clearly allied themselves with a particular, rather extreme political point of view.  It's shocking, really.  But that just tells me that I was ignorant, until now, that Washington University in St. Louis is a right-wing institution, per its leadership.

Between an honorary degree for Phyllis Schlafly (which I would expect of Bob Jones University, not a supposedly mainstream university), and Professor Katz, I will be sure to avoid supporting Washington University in St. Louis in any way.

I hope other would-be students, parents, employees, and potential benefactors take Washington University in St. Louis off their list.

Incredible lesbian-phobia
If you want to see some incredible lesbian-phobia, see Schlafly's 1977 book The Positive Woman...including her comments on ERA demonstrators in Springfield, Illinois.

Wash U is may alma mater
I just wrote to the alumni office and informed them I'll never make a donation again if this degree is awarded. I encourage other alum to take the same action (and if you know Wash U alum, let them know this is happening).
