I just spent an hour reading that post. I started out furious and ended kind of liking a few of the commentors. The Peter showed up and was pretty much summarily dissed, except by someone called Ingrid who is clearly nuts. Their arguments, although biblically based, were on the whole polite and respectful. An awful lot of Jesus stuff which makes them look insane to me. But that's just me. Right? It gave me a little hope to see them shoot Peter down in his own arena and in his own words. They seem to see him as a fanatic hater. Which we all know...is true.
I recommend everyone here, if you have the time and the stomach, read it. They don't all hate us. They just don't know us.

Peter - Matt - Amy (LaBarbera - Barber - Contrada - et al)

Peter et al are some of the saddest people in the USA.  The jury is back and all of Western science and medicine is crystal clear.  Homosexuality is absolutely normal.  But like the Holy Roman Catholic Church defending the notion that the earth is flat or the sun revolves around the earth (poor Copernicus and Gallileo), Peter battles on!

He does not care for solid analysis of Hebrew or Greek.  Scholarship and reality only confuses his faith.  He is left debating and talking and interviewing like minded persons.  Today on his website we are treated to an interview featuring Peter and Matt Barber of CWA.  Two peas in a pod telling one another what each wants to hear.  They are discussing a case neither knows much about.  It truly is sad.

So Peter makes a living spewing forth lies based on hate.  He thinks his "ministry" is founded on love.  So sad, so very sad.  I hope one day he actually understands love and sees his error.  I hope every human understands love in this lifetime.

Peter is in league these days with Anti-Semites and Racists.  He gives stories to the World Net Daily and then cites the WND as the source for his website story.  This dishonesty, these associations do not go unnoticed.  Peter is scrapping the bottom of the moral barrel.  All can see that.  I hope Peter can.  I hope he will stop his ... quest for ... a hateful past as soon as possible.

Sure a few evangelicals are with him.  But the number are dwindling.  As fund raisers, homosexuals just are not cutting it any more.  The pollsters say so.  The politicians say so.  Even the preachers realize it.  Peter, your fifteen minutes are up.  So sorry.  So sad.  Move on.

I was thinking from Brian's pov.

We know Brian's got an emotional disorder over his own sexuality, but I never had a hint that he had a problem being Jewish.  In fact, his heritage seemed the only place he showed self respect.  And yet there he is, closely collaborating with an anti-Semite.  I take it as a sign of how desperate he is to find anyone, anyone at all who will agree with him in his virulent hatred for LGBTs.

Pam, as I will be again attending this year's IML festivities in Chicago, I'll be happy to report on any/all Peter sightings. Granted, it will be tough with all the "sinful" activities I'll be involved in - you know, like meeting up with old friends, enjoying the company of a lot of great guys, walking down Lakeshore Drive for morning exercise, that sort of stuff :-)

Will Peter go incognito to IML to blend in?  Will he get some nice tattoo's, wear chaps and a vest?  Hmmm, time will tell.  Can't wait for his photographs ... he usually has the best on the web after IML and Folsom!

I spent some time reading the Christian blog discussion on Peter.  Very interesting.  Those folks really don't like like his approach at all.  See him as hate filled and spiritually violent.  A most interesting read.  I could not read through it all, though.  It is most long and covers the same ground over and over a bit.  Peter's rationalizing his website and the other's shooting him down is worth the time, though.

I disagree that it is simply a matter of those nice folks just not knowing us well.  Nope, those bloggers are of deep faith that homosexuality is a sin and that faith can heal the sin.  There will be a life long struggle with the sin, but Jesus and God can heal one through the redemptive power of Christ on the cross.  They mean it.  It is a fascinating read.

The Peter at IML

Since I'm a local here in Chicago, I'll keep my eyes peeled for him, Pam.

The part he attends is called the Leather Market. He usually heads right for the gay porn section, where he asks the sales person if they have any barebacking videos. (Really, no kidding.)

One thing that rarely gets reported, is that a few years ago (I think 2006), IML was ready for him. At the registration section (a sprawling area, where you show ID and sign in), they had made flyers with pictures of The Peter and David Smith of the Illinois Family Institute, where The Peter worked before getting canned for failing the get an anti-gay marriage referendum on the ballot. I was a volunteer for Fair Illinois the group who verified the signatures on the petitions. Can you say fraud?  Oh, and if you've ever heard Dave Smith speak, he's just a wee bit light in the loafers, if you get my drift. Me thinks he's been hanging around with the Exodus International crowd a bit too much.

Anyway, IML was handing out their pictures at registration, warning guests that The Peter will try to engage you in conversation and earn your trust, and then take a picture of you. Of course, The Peter never tells the person that it's under false pretenses and he intends to use it on his anti-gay website. (This is a true story.)

About a week after IML ends, The Peter "reports" on what he "finds" at IML. Funny thing is, he "finds" the same "thing" every year!  I also email the guys at IML his reports each year. Some of the pictures he posts are questionable copyright violations.

You know the people I really feel sorry for? The Peter's wife and 5 kids, who have to wonder why their husband and father always does "gay stuff".

I've said it before and I'll say it again: In time this guy will stumble, and we'll read about him getting busted in some forest preserve with his pants down around his ankles.

I'm planning to go to the Market Days this year (first time).  I'd love to have my picture taken with Peter so I can prove to people that I finally met "The Peter" in person.  I've heard and read so much about him.  Who knows?  Maybe I could get some leather wardrobe tips from him!

BTW, Peter's comments on the Christian Research Network link above concerning the vast resources of the various LGBT organizations compared with the meager "pro-family" ones is laughable.  For example, it's quite apparent that Daddy D and Focus on the Anus are hardly operating on a shoe-string budget!

you're right. What I was saying is they don't know us as people. They think they know us; but they only know us as stereotypes. And they're so hung up on sin and redemption that they can't see us as individuals; who may not be christians... or some other infidel sect. Still I'm glad you took the time (and it does take time and patience to wade through all that)to read their justifications. For me, it was a bit hopeful. They don't condone Peters' hateful bigotry. It may be that they  see how badly it reflects on them, and they don't want the world to see. Or maybe it's a start.

 As far as knowing who LGBT people are.  They have this fixation of two men or woman engaged in sex, PERIOD.  They walk past and LGBT person and they have no clue how close ro one they were.  Yhey get seated at a resturant by a lesian waitress and have no clue.  I actually believe he goes to the IML so he can see an open gay man to say he has met some of them, take pictures, and post on his web site that the gay men who go to IML and preads it out to say,  se, see, that's what they do and according to the homosexual agends, that is how we treat our friends and families.

 We all know it is a complete sham, as the Peter knows as well that the IML show may be 3% of a few LGBT couples lives.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

but i'm actually a commenter in that thread, under my real name, Evan.

i've stuck around and dialogued with them on lots of things, and though we disagree on lots and lots of issues, i can say honestly that they accept me as i am, despite disagreements.

that site actually exists as a rebuttal to many of the hate-filled "ministries" out there, and though they lean conservative, they're honestly trying to approach people as people, which is a step in the right direction.

i even IM back and forth with several of them, and they know i'm gay, and honestly, the topic of sexuality doesn't even come up.

There's a big difference though...

between Peter screaming "Sin!" about gays, and what the majority of people there were saying about gay sin. It's a little unfair of you to equate the two.

Most at the site weren't out to cause the lives of gay people to be painful. They actually respected gay people for the most part, thought they didn't accept homosexuality as not sinful. They didn't want to legislate against homosexuals, and were actually more concerned with what happened in the church than they were with anything concerning homosexuality. Some even commented that there were a plethora of other sins who were more destructive to society/the church than homosexuality ever would be, and were honest enough to admit that they were also full of their own chosen sins.

I just wanted to point out that these people may call homosexuality a sin, but don't want to see me hurt because I'm gay. I'll gladly accept their label of sinful, because it doesn't affect how these Christians see me as a person. It's the other ones like Peter who scream "sin!" as a death sentence who should be castigated.

How come he never

 goes to the Adult Expo or IAFA (international adult film awards) in Las Vegas?
 How come he's not invited (or goes) to the Playboy Playmate of the Year party?
How come he and the folks at AFT aren't picketing Vivid Entertainment over here in Studio City? They have a WHOLE high rise building to themselves.

 How come he never says anything about the HUGE billboards for the 'gentlemen's club' outlets and locations all over the country, if not CA?
 How come he's not saying anything about stores like Frederick's, Trashy Lingerie or Victoria's Secret ads for that matter?

 Mr. Leather contest? Is he not aware of the big contest for dominatrix that takes place in various parts of the country?

  Are the only places he can talk about is the Folsom Street event and Mr. Leather...or are ALL those heterosexual events nothing he wants to rock the boat over?

 I don't know what planet he's on, but I am reminded daily here in Silicone Valley that heterosexuals are seriously sex obssessed and are not ashamed of it.

While at the Family Research Council writing their "Culture Facts" newsletter he was also obsessed with homosexuality. In fact, Frank Rich of the New York Times did a piece on this quack several years ago.

He moved to Illinois and headed up the Illinois Family Institute. Both the IFI and FRC are socially conservative, but not gay-specific.  But while he was involved, it was disproportionately focusing on gay related issues-- because of him.

IFI canned him for accomplishing NOTHING, and he jump started the defunct Americans For Truth about Homosexuality organization, which is hurting for funding.

See, now he can feed his pathology. Now it's all homosexuality, all the time. 24 x 7. This is really what he wants. That fire in his belly just won't go away.

I feel sorry for his wife and kids. He's in the same league as Paul Cameron. Pete's in his 40's and has accomplished next to nothing in life, other than attempting to keep gay people as second-class.  The Illinois news media avoid him and the Pat Robertsons and James Dobsons want nothing to do with him. (Even they know he's a freak.)

Pity him. He's pathetic.
