The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Qs of the day - get to know your fellow Blenders

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon May 26, 2008 at 00:00:00 AM EDT

Given readership over a holiday weekend usually wanes, leaving the coffeehouse half-empty, with just the regulars coming in for a cup a joe, I thought I'd ask a few fun questions to spur conversation.

Since this is a cookout kind of holiday for a lot of people, let's start with food; your preferences (and why, if you want to share)...

Peanut butter: chunky, creamy or don't eat it/allergic?
Bread: white or wheat?
Steak: rare, medium, well-done, or no meat?
Ice Cream: chocolate, vanilla or mixes (Cookie's n Cream, Rocky Road, Butter Pecan, etc.)?

More below the fold.

Subtitles or dubbing?
Comedy, drama or documentary?

Popular Music

here are mine
Peanut butter: come on, chunky rules! No favorite brand, though.
Bread: personally, I like bakery pumpernickel and rye
Steak: medium, sometimes rare. I was a vegetarian for a couple of years back in the day, but unfortunately I caved because bacon smelled so good, lol.
Ice Cream: Edy's Butter Pecan.

Sleep habits
Morning or evening person? Definitely more an AM person.
Tummy, back or side sleeper? All of them (when I actually sleep).
Need an alarm or wake up on own? Don't need an alarm; that's what Bailey is for.

Movies
Flashdance or Footloose? Flashdance - the cheese level is astronomical!
Star Wars or Star Trek? Argh - do I have to choose? BTW, how many of you out there are old enough to have seen all of them in their first releases?Subtitles or dubbing? Subtitles
Comedy, drama or documentary? Documentaries these days.

Popular Music
Classic soul or hip hop? Classic soul.
Hair band or grunge? I actually like both genres, but love the cheese factor of the 80s hair bands.
CDs or MP3s? I haven't listened to a CD in who knows how long. Oh wait, I think I listened to a CD in my car in the last month.

Umm...
Peanut butter: Since bariatric surgery, not doable.
Bread: white or wheat? Since bariatric surgery, not doable -- but always whole grain anything vice processed white flour or rice.
Steak: Medium rare.
Ice Cream: Sorbet.

Sleep habits:
Evening person.
Back.
Retired...whenever I get up, I get up.

Movies:
Flashdance.
"KAAAAAHN!!!"
Subtitles.
Comedy, drama or documentary -- I'm always in learning mode, so documentaries, but if a comedy or drama can teach me something (or involves Marvel or DC charaters), I want to be at that movie.

Popular Music:
Classic soul.
Grunge.
Cassettes? Albums? :P Why aren't those choices I can select? ;)

...putting here, want to bottom (usually pushy though)

PB: Chunky...especially in hummus, and Aftican peanut soup.

Bread: Homemade, half yeast, half a hot sourdough we've had 3 years this time. Learning ciabata. Hubby makes real No. Calif. sourdough in the outdoor artisan oven he built.

Steak: rare, but not shiny.

Ice Cream: This is why I answered. PHISH FOOD Rules!

Sleep: History stomach, caused neck spurs so now back sides. Alarm, but wake before.

Movies: Don't do. x H Potter,

STAR anything! (Congrats to George Takei and Arnold on their engagement.) Also the 'long scarved' Dr. Who.

I am a sci fi (written) fan. None of the movies are decent, cuz you can't 'live' with/in them long enough. LOOOOONNNG Series the best. Anne McCaffrey's dragonriders, DWeber Honor Harrington.

Music: eclectic: Dylan,Eagles, Strait, Jackson... no rock. all iTunes/iPod even have USB LP converter, haven't used yet. Lots of good old jazz albums 50's etc.

Cereal: Nope Cliff Builder protein bars...20 g last 8 hours.

Seafood: Salmon

Hot drink: AM coffee, then chai or EB tea.

Cold: changes

Books: see above though I am into ebooks now. have over 400 on Palm tX. Haven't killed a tree in a while. Fiction only...my day job is REAL enough!

Me
Creamy peanut butter definitely.  Whoever inveted crunchy should be shot.  White bread cause it goes better with sweet things like pb&j.  Steak as rare as possible -- I might be fine with just a mooing cow on a plate, lol.

Milk flavor is my new favorite flavor of ice cream -- something I recently discovered in Japan.

I tend to fall asleep anytime I'm not doing anything physical (and sometimes even when I am).  I never sleep on my back because when I do I almost always get sleep paralysis upon waking.  I set an alarm, but usually wake up about 3 minutes before it goes off.

Flashdance kicks Footloose's ass simply because it has Jennifer Beals in it.  Star Trek.  Subtitles -- dubbing is a nightmare.  All genres are equally as good depending on the movie being watched.

Trip hop and rock.  MP3 only -- don't even remember what a CD looks like, lol.

"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting." -E.E. Cummings

Here are mine,
Peanut butter, I prefer the creamy, but rarely eat it, every so once in a while peanut butter on Keebler Club Crackers.  But prefer Cheddar (Extra Sharp) on the crackers.

Bread, White, don't care for the wheat.  Cinnamon Raisen Bread is best though, with real butter.

Steak, Must be Rare, Prime Rib is the family Favorite.  Hamburgers must be medium.

Ice cream, that's easy, mint chocolate chip.

Sleep Habits, I am a mix between Night Owl and Day person.  I work from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, and than also depends if my kids are in school or not the next day. we wake up early for family outings, or we sleep in when the weather sucks.
I sleep on my side, right side mostly as that is the way to face the TV which I fall asleep to.  I have it set to turn off every 30 minutes and must reset it if I didn't fall asleep. Have an alarm clock just in case our dogs or cats fail to wake me up on time, which is a rarity.

Movies, Prefer Footloose over Flashdance. I liked the first Star Wars (IV) but I am also a Trekie.   I mostly watch documentries though.  Myth Busters, How its made, Dirty Jobs, And enjoy the Deadliest Catch.  I do enjoy comedy as I can watch reruns of Richard Pryor and George Carlin as well as the old Saturday Night Live, the Cone heads, Mister Bill era.

Music, Classic Rock, Queen, Floyd, Zeppelin, Triumph, AC/DC, as well as some of the new Metal.  Don't care for hip hop or country music. I am still a CD person, kids have the I pods.

I will add a few,

Favorite Cereal,  Cocoa Puffs and Capt Crunch, mixed together.  I know, a bit strange.

Sea Food, Snow crab legs or shrimp deep fried.

Hot Drink,  Decaf Tea, occasional hot cocoa.  Don't do coffee.  But love Pam's House Blend.

Soda,  Pepsi over Coke.  Favorite is A/W rootbeer.

Crackers,  Keebler Club, second is Ritz, But love Cheese Its.  PF Gold fish are also a favorite.

Books, I am not a book reader but thought I would add as a topic as well.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

I love a questionnaire!
Peanut Butter:  Creamy, natural with no sugar added
Bread:  Whole wheat, though I do make a rosemary bread that will rock your socks
Steak:  I just started eating meat a year ago, still not into the steak.
Ice Cream:  Any and all, but my fave is pineapple coconut Haagen Dazs.

Sleep:
Evening person, on the side, with a double alarm turned all the way up.

Movies:
Come on, y'all!  I'm a big sissy gay boy, so of course I love Flashdance and Star Wars best.  Show me a gay man in his 30s who didn't put cinnamon buns on his head and pretend to be Princess Leia!

Music:
I like some hip hop, more older stuff than current.  I'm gaining a new appreciation for hair bands, but preferred grunge back in the day (just not the outfits!).  I haven't bought a CD in ages, everything is digital.

"Radical" Russ
Peanut butter: Super Chunky Adams Natural
Bread: Sourdough, Marble Rye, of Seven-Grain
Steak: Medium
Ice Cream: Heath + Double Chocolate large Blizzard at Dairy Hogg, er, Queen.
Sleep habits:  Out by 11pm, up by 4am (gotta be on East Coast time for my interviews), strangely now a morning person, sleep in every position but in a remarkably tight space (I spin in place), and I generally awaken on my own right before the alarm goes off.

Movies:
Flashdance or Footloose? - Footloose, but it's like asking "Black Licorice or Brussels Sprouts" to me.
Star Wars or Star Trek? - Star Wars & Empire, Star Trek Original and movies II & IV.
Subtitles or dubbing? - Subtitles.  Voice inflection of the actor is important to the acting, and a dubbed voice messes that all up.  But I'm a fast reader.
Comedy, drama or documentary? - You forgot Brazilian gonzo porn!

Popular Music:
Classic soul or hip hop? - James Brown has more groove in the grave than 4/5ths of the hip-hop artists working today.
Hair band or grunge? - Having been in one, hair band.
CDs or MP3s? - MP3s.  But you didn't put down vinyl cut from analog masters.  Digital, no matter how small you slice it, is always just an approximation of reality.  Even if you tell me my ears can't tell the difference between a 320kbps MP3 and an LP, it just feels more real.  Curves, baby, not stair-steps...

"If people let government decide which foods they eat and medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny." -- Thomas Jefferson

Black licorice
and Brussel Sprouts are both huge faves of mine!! I keep an antique old fashioned covered candy dish on my bedstand with black licorice in it- a few pieces and I'm able not to cheat my diet and head for the bedtime snacks.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

[ Parent ]
Well, you do know James Brown...
music. A Captain on a boat, man of color, was playing some cd's and mentioned one was a musician and I said that's no musician. He said "what do you mean by that"?. I said, "look, who can sing like James Brown"? I said "nobody and nobody would try. He's got his own style, his own music and anywhere you hear James Brown eveybody knows, that's James Brown. Thats a musician, not these people pumping out cd's". He said, "yea, I see what you mean".

I'd rather be a lion for one day, than a sheep for my entire life.

My answers
Peanut butter: Creamy.
Bread: Rye or multi-grain.
Steak: no beef (or pork). I gave meat up for several years and never went back to beef/pork.
Ice Cream: I had a bowl of Rocky Road earlier, but when available, I'll opt for gelato everytime.

Sleep habits
Morning or evening person? Evening.
Tummy, back or side sleeper? All of the above.
Need an alarm or wake up on own? Alarm.

Movies
Flashdance or Footloose? Jennifer Beals or Kevin Bacon? JB, for sure.
Star Wars or Star Trek? Neither. I've tried, I just can't do it.
Subtitles or dubbing? Subtitles.
Comedy, drama or documentary? Drama.

Popular Music
Classic soul or hip hop? Hip-hop
Hair band or grunge? Grunge
CDs or MP3s? MP3s, though this is a habit I need to break--you can't go to a concert and ask an artist to sign your iTunes receipt.

Wait, there's more
Favorite Cereal: Peanut Butter Crunch
Seafood: Grilled Salmon (doing my best to avoid the fried foods that I grew addicted to growing up in the South)
Hot Drink: Occasional latte, but mostly tea
Soda: Dr. Pepper
Crackers: Ritz, Goldfish
Books: Mostly political memoirs

[ Parent ]
What I like
Peanut butter: I get the stuff at the health food store where you grind your own.  Its not chunky but its not that smooth either.
Bread: definitely whole wheat
Steak: medium well
Ice Cream: lately I like moose tracks

Sleep habits
Morning or evening person? evening
Tummy, back or side sleeper? side
Need an alarm or wake up on own? usually on my own, alarm as backup
Movies
Flashdance or Footloose? have only seen Footloose.
Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Wars
Subtitles or dubbing? Subtitles
Comedy, drama or documentary? Comedy

Popular Music
Classic soul or hip hop? Classic Rock
Hair band or grunge? Can't say I know what either of them are.
CDs or MP3s? I just graduated from cassette's to CD's a couple years ago.  Give me time.

From Las Vegas
Peanut Butter: Smooth
Bread: MultiGrain
Steak: Think M-R
Ice Cream: HD Chocolate with a jar of Marshmallow Cream
Night Owl
Back Sleeper
Alarm
Neither: Grease
Hated all the movies, liked Next Gen
Subtitles
Comedy
Classical Soul and R&B
Hair Band, lets take that back a generation: Glitter Rock
CD's (Luddite - actually have plenty of Vinyl lying about)
Cereal: Hot Farina with sugar and cream
Sea Food: Coconut Shrimp (I feel so white trashy)
Earle Grey
Diet Pepsi
Oreos (you define a cracker your way and me mine)
Current Read: Susan Powter - The Politics of Stupid

here are my current choices
Peanut Butter - chunky or creamy - it's all good

Bread varies with mood - though I usually prefer white or multi-grain.  Often make my own - then it's usually some sort of blend.

Steak - rarely, but it's usually medium-rare

Ice Cream - vanilla (if it's REAL vanilla), then again, Peach, Chocolate, and Pistachio are also good.

Afternoon person, side sleeper, alarm if I must be up on time (someone else's - not mine)

Neither Flash Dance, nor Footloose
Star Wars
Subtitles
Drama

Jazz, Bluegrass, Blues (when it's not some guy whining about how "his" woman "done him wrong" - like no longer supporting him), "Classic" Rock, Folk

CD's

From a *pre*boomer - yes, some of us are still around
Peanut butter: chunky.   Else why bother?
Bread: wheat.  Eating white bread (of the ordinary American kind, not baguettes and other cool stuff) is like eating a paper napkin.
Steak: medium rare
Ice Cream: chocolate, vanilla or mixes (Cookie's n Cream, Rocky Road, Butter Pecan, etc.)?  None, alas, because I'm lactose intolerant.  But there are some absolutely bitchin' sorbets, including chocolate and outstanding fruit flavors, as well as "Purely Decadent" [sic] mixes that I lov.

Sleep habits
Morning or evening person?   Evening, absolutely.  The phrase "Good Morning" is an Irish Bull, an essential contradiction in terms.
Tummy, back or side sleeper?  Side.  As highly recommended for serious snorers.
Need an alarm or wake up on own?  I'm retired.  I wake up whenever.

Movies
Flashdance or Footloose?  Flashdance, IIRC, but I haven't revisited either for years.
Star Wars or Star Trek?  Star Wars.  Once upon a time it was magical, whereas ST was never more than thoughtful.  Magic wins; even the recollection of magic long past ...

Subtitles or dubbing?  Subtitles, absolutely.  Even though my wife once worked as a dubber for HK chopsocky flicks.
Comedy, drama or documentary?  Yes.

Popular Music:  Not really- I'm into other stuff, which presumably is defined as "unpopular," esp. classical (but also some jazz, folk, etc.)
Classic soul or hip hop?  Soul, if I must.
Hair band or grunge?  Neither.  Let me know when they are on, and I'll move into the next room.  Or the next county, if necessary.
CDs or MP3s? CDs.

Preferences:
Peanut butter: creamy (chunky's seriously gross, but I haven't eaten either in years)
Bread: wheat
Steak: medium or medium rare
Ice Cream: mixes
Sleep habits:  big, big evening person  -  side sleeper - need an alarm
Movies:
Flashdance or Footloose?   NEITHER
Star Wars or Star Trek?   BOTH when they're good
Subtitles or dubbing?   SUBTITLES!!!!!
Comedy, drama or documentary?   Don't care as long as they're good and about something I care enough to watch

Popular Music
Classic soul (& also other genres)
Hair band or grunge?  NEITHER!
CDs or MP3s?  CD's

Nice idea. Fun just to answer.
Evening person.
Side
Alarm... sometimes

Footloose (Flashdance is just too OMG for me)
Star Trek (higher nerd quotient, more fun to geek out to)
Subtitles (I like to hear the original dialogue, even if I can't understand, and it's easier to pair the emotional content of the sound with text than to hope the dubber is getting the emotion right)
Comedy

Hip hop
Grunge
MP3s (MP4s, actually :) )

Okay

Peanut butter: Neither!  That was Steve's Department
Bread: Dark Rye
Steak: Rare or maybe medium Rare ... yeah I know it's bad for me
Ice Cream: Chocolate with Chocolate Sauce and Hot Fudge

Sleep habits
Morning or evening person? Morning
Tummy, back or side sleeper? All of the above.
Need an alarm or wake up on own? Disability-Retired ... I wake up when I wake up

Movies
Flashdance or Footloose? Neither one really
Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Wars ... chapters 4-6 with the young and hunk Harison Ford
Subtitles or dubbing? Dubbing ... I used to love the dubbed French Las Cage Aux Foilles
Comedy, drama or documentary?  I haven't watched a movie in months ... my disability makes watching movies problematic

Popular Music
Classic soul or hip hop? Neither
Hair band or grunge? Neither
CDs or MP3s? Neither ... My disability makes listening to music problematic ... I like the silence of a computer or a good book (grin)

Netflix
..is very cheap, and is the greatest invention since sliced bread, especially for the disabled/rural, IMO. I canceled my cable/satellite, and save 45$ a month watching exactly what I want, and nothing I don't with no commercials. (Even if you want TV, most shows are on DVD now.) With my news on-line, and a pair of rabbit ears to get the local weather, I'm all set. They have everything from all over the world, if it's on DVD. (Avoid Blockbuster, which sometimes gives "family edits" of movies without your knowledge.) The unlimited no late fee 3-at-a-time program is usually about 15$/month. I couldn't live without it now.

Here's mine
1. Super Chunky PB, low fat. Like ordering a Diet Coke with a Super-sized McD's meal!  ;) So a rare indulgence.
2. Low Carb/ Whole Grain/ High Fiber Wraps (have lost 10 lbs since my mom was diagnosed as diabetic on May 6th- at her request, I am changing my diet with her and exercising to show support/ avert same diagnosis in 20 years!)
3. Medium Rare Steaks, grilled. Or as shish-kabobs.
4. B&J's NY Super Fudge Chunk- or homemade Strawberry Cheesecake (but not until I have lost more)

5. Morning, on tum, depends- school mornings I'm up at 4:45-5am, so need an alarm. Otherwise, I'm up around 6.

6. Have never seen Flashdance; Footloose not my style either.
7. BOTH Star Trek and Wars! Usually as rainy day marathons.
8. Subtitles occasionally.
9. Like all 3.

10. If it's not on the car radio, I don't hear it. Which is why I find an excuse to run errands solo from 8-9 am- one channel plays '80s rock. Sundays, it extends to 11 or noon.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

BTW, this is a fun idea!
(Additional answers)

Favorite Cereal: Grape-Nuts (fave since I was a kid) with slivered almonds, unsweetened raisins, and dry plain oatmeal mixed in. No milk. Kinda like my own homemade granola that I can pop into a baggie and keep with me for nibbles.

Seafood: C'mon; I'm from Maine! :) Everything seafood is good.

Hot Drink: Dark roast/espresso with milk in mornings, green tea or plain hot water later.

Soda: Evil. None. (but I looooooove orange, cream or strawberry sodas)

Crackers: Pretzels. Love Cheeze-its but will not eat them now.

Pam's additional answers
Suggested additions from upthread:

Favorite Cereal: good Pam: Total, with or without raisins; bad Pam: Lucky Charms - magically delicious!

Hot Drink: no coffee; English breakfast tea with half and half plus Splenda.
Soda: Sprite Zero, but must have Diet Coke with pizza.
Crackers: Club cracker, regular flavor Goldfish.
Books: mostly political books (usually reading more than one at a time); haven't read a novel in a long while.

Hypatia's Pam's additional answers
Favorite Cereal: Formerly Hemp Plus Granola (yeah call me a crunchy hippie, I don't care; this stuff comes from Canada so they can make it with ground up hemp seeds, and it's so yummy). Currently Kashi Golean.

Seafood: Nope. I'm vegetarian.

Hot Drink: Green tea. Espresso.

Soda: No thanks. I'll have water. Earth juice, I call it.

Crackers: Anything 100% whole wheat, when I can find 'em.

Books: Feminist theory

Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find

Nothing I Can Report
But they were making a documentary for the 30th anniversary of IML, so there were a lot more people taking pics, etc. It occurred to me that it might be easier for the fundies to blend in.

[ Parent ]

Gardening or Marathons?  Gardening with a little yoga thrown in.

Feel free to add other categories...(I'll give my answers in the comments.)

...wooo!

I had forgotten single pierced ears = body modification now! Cool I'm in.

But do want a tattoo... have it designed in my head oval, breaking wave with the Bagi-Nagi sign in it from CJ Cherryh's Foreigner series. Wonderful lost ship of earthmen find a world populated by civilized (combo Japanese, Chinese type culture) very tall BLACK people!...  So well done.

Used to live in Waterville
and Gifford's on Silver Street was a fave; either homemade mint chocolate chip with real semi-sweet chips or orange-pineapple. (Blackfly is great, too)

Being able to get Gifford's in supermarkets is a dream come true!

There's a soda weirder than Lisbon Falls "Moxie"??

Ha!
As long as I live in Maine, I will always wonder who actually drinks Moxie. To me it tastes like Birch Beer cut with Windex!

I agree there is nothing better that hitting a Gifford's stand in the summer. I like to stop on my way over the new bridge to Ellsworth and arrive at my doctor's office with slightly higher cholesterol. ;-)

Where is the Gifford's
up that way? I havne't been in Ellsworth since they were widening out/ ripping down trees along Rt 1A from Dedham on down a few years ago. I miss getting fried clams, cole slaw and onion rings followed by an ice cream at Crosby's in Bucksport (Rt 46) SO MUCH...

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

The new bridge...
...is absolutely stunning and has a lookout tower, you should visit. There is parking right near the Fort. I think they light it up at night.
The Gifford's stand is right near it in Bucksport, on Main Street, very easy to spot, near one of the historical houses. (That's halfway to Ellsworth for me coming from even further north.) It must be a fairly new one. It's just a window onto the sidewalk but they have the (un)usual selections and daily special flavors. There are always quite a few people waiting in line or sitting nearby getting their fix!

Thought you meant Penobscot Narrows
haven't been up yet, but family have said it's terrific. My 2nd great-grandfather was the postmaster for Prospect Ferry- owned the farmhouse right beside the fort (built by his father-in-law, a Harriman sea captain). The small square Federal building abandoned between his farm and the fort was the old post office and pre-first bridge ferry port years ago.

I had the uppermost apartment of the old 3rd story green roofed brick building, facing the river, on Main St in Bucksport (pretty much across from Prouty's Best Western)- walking distance to that ice cream stand. Will check it out next time up that way.
