Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Macy's bold affirmation of marriage equality

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu May 29, 2008 at 12:00:00 PM EDT

Evan Wolfson of Freedom To Marry dropped something wonderful in my inbox -- an example of the what the California ruling really means. :) Take a look at was in the LA Times on the back page of the first section...after the jump.
Pam Spaulding :: Macy's bold affirmation of marriage equality

"First comes love.  Then comes  marriage.  And now it's a milestone every couple in California can celebrate."

Take that, fundies.

And now I remember why I really want marriage equality:  the gift registry!

the registry
FYI, when you register online with Macy's wedding registry, you have to fill out info for both people, who are labeled "registrants."  You then choose a pull-down menu to choose the designation of the registrants, which includes Bride, Groom, or Partner.  I'm loving Macys!

That is so damned much better
than the gift bag I saw today at Rite-Aid labelled "Mr and Mrs"...

Favorite Margaret Cho Line
A government that denies gay men the right to bridal registry is a facist state!

And the reality is, Macy's didn't even have to add any functionality to its system. I am very sure at least those stores in major gay-friendly areas have been doing commitment ceremony/civil union registries for years.

They need the money
Wedding registry sales can easily average over $5000 per couple at most dept stores.

But it is cute. Just one more sign that the war has been won and it will just be skirmishes with a defeated enemy from here on out.

Opportunistic, sure
but one example of corporate opportunism I think is way cool and long overdue.

As most of us have said...
...follow the money - the capitalistic nature of the US will still be able to beat the puritanical fundies. lol

Freeper heads to explode!
I can't wait to read the anguished, scornful comments and boycott threats.

boycott threats, no doubt
i'm sure macy's is anticipating them, and it's wonderful they went ahead with the ad anyway.  it's subtle, but brave, even though i suspect most fundies prefer the department selections of wal-mart.  all the same, you can bet your unmentionables that they will beseige macy's with a collective hissy fit.

how many "safe" products are left for them that have been untouched by the homo agenda these days?

The gays stole my lunch money

Macy's ad
This was also in the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday.

timing of ad not a coincidence
I loved how Macy's waited until the second after State officials announced the day weddings may start....they had it all set to go and when more official came down  from the state...bammmm....ad.

Macy's has been a pride supporter in Boston
They routinely decorate their windows with rainbow stuff during pride week in Boston.  Much to the head implosive chagrin of Brain 'n Ami of mASSresistance fame. :)

Lurleen on Twitter.

I love this...
as a big "nyah nyah nyah nyah" to the fundies.

I *had* been boycotting Macy's
due to their offensive, foolish caving-into disturbed MassResistance people by changing their window display in Boston.  I think they removed mannequins that had been holding hands.  Remember that silliness?  Well, my own boycott of Macy's is definitely over.  This more than makes up for it.

Well, this is a ray of light
www.svherald.com, the Tim Bee story and comments, have been a stone on my heart for days. The stupidity and hatred is grinding. Thanks for just being here, Pam, et. al, and thanks for the great post.

First it was Disney
With their willingness to do same sex commitment ceremonies, now Macy's opening up registries to same sex couples.

Same-sex marriage is good business. Same-sex couples are often dual high income with no children meaning their disposable income is often much more than a heterosexual couple.

Never try to train a pig. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig.

*some* same-sex couples
are dual-income high earners.

Remember that women still make, what is it, 70 cents to a man's dollar? Two women, you're more likely to have a lower household income than a man and a woman. And a whole lot of same-sex couples have kids, either conceived during their relationship or from prior heterosexual relationships. The gays-are-usually-wealthy meme gets used against us a lot. My friends are hardly a large or representative sample, but a large percentage of the queers I know are teachers, social workers, working for non-profits, and most are parents too.

[ Parent ]
Agreed - good point!
Yeah, the ad does appear to support the idea of the DINK (dual-income, no kids) tag placed on same-sex couples = more DISPOSABLE income to spend at our fine institution.

Although I understand the praise that Macy's has received with this ad, I wonder what kind of benefits and HR policies they actually have for their glbt employees. I hope it's progressive and not an issue of "We'll take your money but forget about your rights".

[ Parent ]
Macy's has pretty good
HR policies towards their LGBT employees. They are huge supporters of pride events and is ranked by HRC as one of the best places to work for LGBT people.

They did however recently bow to pressure in Boston over a window display celebrating Boston's Pride Week.

Never try to train a pig. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig.

[ Parent ]
I didn't say ALL same-sex couples
are high income earners. I said they often are. I didn't discount the fact there is a gender gap in income disparity, that many of us work in lower paying jobs (I worked for not much more than minimum wage until I was about 30) nor did I discount some same-sex couples have children. However there is no shortage of same-sex couples where both partners are highly paid professionals (defined as making more than $60K/year) with no children. They can afford to spend many thousands of dollars on their weddings than say a middle class bride's family. It's no wonder Disney and Macy's is going for this demographic.

Just because you aren't in that demographic doesn't mean it should be discounted as a business opportunity. And yes even if you can't afford to spend tens of thousands on a wedding and honeymoon, they still want to do business with you because the legalization of same-sex marriage means an expansion of their business.

Not all or even most gays are wealthy and affluent, however most of us do not have children, which means even with lower incomes we have more money available for discretionary spending.

Never try to train a pig. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig.

Yup. Capitalism is good for gay people...
...and gay people are good for capitalism. Boo-ya!
