Faux News calls Michelle Obama 'Baby Mama'

I am breathless with horror

at the depth of the depravity that passes as journalism (at least in their own minds). How on earth can anyone outside of an Appalachian trailer park think that such terminology is appropriate to use on NATIONAL F*CKING TELEVISION.

I simply cannot fathom the kind of thinking that leads to this stuff. I cannot grasp the notion that someone might think that this is acceptable. Does NO ONE look at this stuff before it airs? I remember that the Smothers Brothers were forever being censored - granted they were liberals poking fun at a conservative government - but have all of the safety mechanisms been lifted completely?

Is there no standard for libel? For defamation of character? What happened to the argument about "fighting words"? Remember that?  If someone antagonizes someone to the point that the target lashes out, judges ruled that the use of "fighting language" even without physical contact was justification for the offended party to do the reasonable thing and smack the asshole spouting off squarely in the kisser. I think it was phrased "language that would incite a reasonable person to violence" or something like that.

Have we lost all sense of decency? Are we no longer offended by anything? At what point do we stand up, take a baseball bat to the kneecaps of the offending parties, and once they're sitting and we have their undivided attention, explain to them the exact nature of their wrongs?

It seems that they understand they're not allowed to use n*gger, and they're not allowed to use dyke or fag, but they are remarkably creative in their search for alternatives that are nearly as offensive. I still like the bat idea.

Yes Dawn, you are right. Isn't it amazing how creative lower minds can be when they're trying to express their bigotry in a mass medium? Some of the dumbest people on earth suddenly become a walking thesaurus when it comes to a thousand different ways to race/gay bait.

And it's Fox, of course, which gets away with anything since it is protected with a wink and a nod by the current administration. And they see, perhaps, coming restrictions on their ability to do business in this manner so they are pulling out all the stops now to smear Obama.

But also notice there is no outrage from the rest of the media (save perhaps Olbermann) who understand the way the game is played.

And it's a testament to how far we haven't come as a society where this sort of thing is tolerated on our airwaves.

It's just started and, sadly, it's going to get far worse than this. There are millions of Americans who high five Fox for these smears and, as Murdoch knows, they are a loyal audience demographic.

Michelle Obama could clean Malkin's intellectual clock.  Barack Obama's campaign is full of geniuses.  It will be interesting to see how they turn this racist blowhard and others like her in on themselves.

And they can't even say it was adlib from some errant anchor or host.  They had to write that crap in the script (and more than likely get it approved) before it aired.

I give it three weeks before the actual word "nigger" is used -- in a purely professional way of course.

The way they will do it

is by making the "discussion" of such, similar to what we're having here, into their version of a legitimate (HA!) news story.

Voila! Instant excuse for them to start with Chyrons of either "N-word", "N*****", or straight-up the word itself. From there, roll back the clock 50 years- the right wing will eat it up.

What is it about movie titles?

It sounds like whenever there is a movie with a somewhat unusual title dumb people latch on to it and over use it?  Remember "war of the Roses" for whenever someone in Hollywood had a messy divorce?  My favorite was seeing a straight faced anchor lady emoting about "it was a real life War of the Roses!".  What, someone is fighting for the British throne again?  
There's also the case of Wag the Dog.  Now the Fox-bots have the nerve to criticize Bill Clinton, claiming that he could have caught bin Laden in Sudan?  It's like Fox throws out things for these people to memorize, making it easier by throwing in pop culture references.  This isn't the first time that I have seen Baby Mama used but it really does just sound dumb when people say it, especially news types doing the "gossipy news anchor" routine.  
Oh, kind of related.  I was waiting in line the other day and there was a tv with Headline News playing.  Apparently it's big news to some of their staff, especially to what looked like a very human like bobble head doll with long blonde hair, that young women are having babies.  Famous ones even!  And some of them aren't even married!  Some of them don't want to get married!  Ever!
Yep, news you can use.

These nuts obviously realize there are very few legitimate things to attack Obama on that are going to have an impact, they've taken to attacking his wife.  Man, they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel now.  It's beyond pathetic.  But I'm LOVING these spectacles of Repuglican desperation!!!

Michelle targeted by Reich Wing....bring it on

If the Reich Wing thinks attempting to trash this beautiful graceful mother of two, is a winning strategy they are sadly mistaken.
First Michelle has Chicago politics in her background, so I'm certain she has heard this trash before, and dealt with it.
Second Michelle could make the talk show circuits, saying how damaging this attack is on her daughters....cue Oprah.
Third Barrack standing up chivalrously protecting his family, (think Michael Douglas movie) where he tells his smearing competition not to attack his girl friend, because "she is way out of your class."
This will have MAJOR BLOWBACK, and McSame will need to go out and distance himself from Malkin and FAUX News.
Barrack defending his wife, will warm the hearts of women voters and garner him men's support as well.
The worst the Left could do is attack (either)Mrs. McCains then it lowers us to their level.

 You could be a Harvard Law school graduate married to another Ivy League law school grad turned junior Senator from Illinois. Be statuesque AND have two, very young beautiful and charming daughters and carve a path with your husband of many years towards the White House in a standout Presidential campaign and yet....

Still be referred to as if you are no less common than a urban ghetto euphamism like 'baby mama'.

   And Ms. O isn't living down remarking that she's proud of her country for the first time since her husband took the forerunner position.

  Considering such remarks about HER....I'm not as proud as she is, and I'd like to be.

while to us here, she represents the finest qualities that a person can aspire to, it's a different story to the dim bulbs who supported george bush because he was "one of them".  these are people who crave a sense of superiority and will take it where they can find it--it's why they wave flags and screech over flag lapel pins, tout their christianist credentials, regularly bash muslims and gays for sport, and harbor bitter resentment towards any entity that rejects their hateful, superstitious, divisive nonsense.  to them, a black woman who is articulate and intelligent is frightening.  to them, she's nothing because she will always be black, and she'll always be a woman.  she must be slapped down back into her place as inferior for her innate qualities, before she causes too much damage to their fragile egos that are inflated only with stupidity and bigotry.  

as for fox's claim of "fair and balanced" goes, where is the baby-momma label for cindy mccain, michelle's counterpart?  how convenient that they've forgotten that SHE'S the adultress.  white trash news for white trash, that's all it is.

Michelle Obama will be the new sexist target...

...now that Hillary Clinton is gone from the Presidential race.  Michelle Obama may or may not have personal animosity toward Hillary Clinton (Internet rumors aside), but I would wager that by the end of this campaign, she will have much empathy for her.  They will have a lot on which to commiserate.  Michelle will be the favorite punching bag of the sexist pundits, and now it has begun in earnest.

She already has been excoriated for daring to mention, in what was to me a refreshingly honest answer to one of those stupid questions asked of candidates wives ("What are your husband's bad qualities?"), that Barack has "morning breath" and "stinky socks."  They've already unloaded with the racist attacks and smears, implying that she has used racist slurs, etc.  Now she's going to get it with both barrels, and referring to her as "Obama's Baby Mama" is a prime example of both.

I was very encouraged to see that the Obama campaign recognizes that they will have to mount a fierce defense against the smear tactics and that he will be launching a site www.fightthesmears.com as part of that effort.  His campaign impresses me daily with its tactical efficiency and effectiveness.

What I would really like to see is Hillary Clinton herself personally defending Michelle Obama and condemning the purveyors of these sexist and racist smears.

Senator Clinton...

...could win back a lot of the good will she's lost by doing exactly that.  She could point out parallels with what happened to her years ago (c.f. her "baking cookies" comment) and substantively advance the national dialogue on sexism and racism.

Another problem the Reich Wing has

They already have far fewer women supporters and their convention's attendees look like Vermont in a snow storm.
So their playing to type as sexist and racist, will only reinforce that perception by Independant voters.
The other problem these barely rational hate mongers have is no internal guage, which tells them THIS is as far as you can go, before you cross the line, in the minds of 99% of Americans. While calling Gore and Edwards, and even Bill Clinton various fag-like slurs, by Ann Colture to sell her books, RNC members cringe when she opens up her reptilian-brain governed yap, at their press covered events.

Latina and Latino voters won't like FAMILY attacked

I imagine a substantial number of various ethnic and religious voters, won't like the tone of attacking a wife and mother. Mormon voters, Jewish voters, Muslim voters, Catholic voters to name a few, who are very family oriented.
It will also take any validity out of FAMILY VALUES pro-marriage crowd, if they attack Michelle Obama.

Rrepublican Hate Jocks are fighting 2008, with 2000 play book

Cheney/Bush only solidified their base to win, that's not what McSame appeals to, he has Independant draw. If these Hate Jocks turn off Independants, McSame has NOTHING.
It amuses me to see NEWS channels showing 2004 maps of Bush States, and neglecting the 2006 THUMPING, the 3 solidly Repig districts the lost in special elections this year, and the 2 to 3 times Democratic Primary registrations and voters.
2008 will be a CAKEWALK, as will huge advances in the House and Senate.
