The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

NYT: fundies pushed Palin selection, McCain team left scrambling to vet

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue Sep 02, 2008 at 00:30:00 AM EDT

The blockbuster story of this Sarah Palin debacle is that John McCain and his team simply didn't vet this candidate. He only met her once, spoke with her once, and only now is there a GOP team on the ground combing through records to see what other skeletons are in her closet.

This ultimately doesn't have anything to do with Palin -- it's about McCain's judgment and fealty to the fringe element of his party. What does this say about his leadership? Do you want a man without impulse control leading this nation?   (NYT):

Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin's background. A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice-presidential choice. The campaign was still calling Republican operatives as late as Sunday night asking them to go to Alaska to deal with the unexpected candidacy of Ms. Palin.

Although the McCain campaign said that Mr. McCain had known about Bristol Palin's pregnancy before he asked her mother to join him on the ticket and that he did not consider it disqualifying, top aides were vague on Monday about how and when he had learned of the pregnancy, and from whom.

...At the least, Republicans close to the campaign said it was increasingly apparent that Ms. Palin had been selected as Mr. McCain's running mate with more haste than McCain advisers initially described.

The crew of evangelicals McCain met with a couple of months ago wanted approval of this veep; it seems he didn't take that threat seriously as he went to consider other choices, we learn that he got a severe smackdown. Here's the confirmation that the fundies are in control of the ticket and the party as a whole -- reporter Elisabeth Bumiller says McCain was thisclose to selecting either Tom Ridge or Holy Joe but there was a roar from the Dominionists that those two pro-choicers would have resulted in a floor fight.
Up until midweek last week, some 48 to 72 hours before Mr. McCain introduced Ms. Palin at a Friday rally in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. McCain was still holding out the hope that he could choose a good friend, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, a Republican close to the campaign said. Mr. McCain had also been interested in another favorite, former Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania.

But both men favor abortion rights, anathema to the Christian conservatives who make up a crucial base of the Republican Party. As word leaked out that Mr. McCain was seriously considering the men, the campaign was bombarded by outrage from influential conservatives who predicted an explosive floor fight at the convention and vowed rejection of Mr. Ridge or Mr. Lieberman by the delegates.

If you read the rest of the article, it's also clear that no one was prepared for the drip-drip of stories (the pregnant unwed teen, Troopergate) so far.

I think its a good thing...
Schadenfreude ftw on McCain, it shows that having a fundamentalist vice presidential candidate leads to death of your campaign.

I can see the political ads now...

IRAQ
ECONOMY
ENERGY
VP

For the important things facing America, John McCain doesn't do his homework.

This message approved by anyone with a brain!

Seriously though...
With all of these things piling up, I think the Palin push is going to backfire on the extreme right (especially the money makers) and the "normal" conservatives (if there still is such a thing) will beat a quick path to Bob Barr.

[ Parent ]
Actually to Obama/Biden,
There are republicans that I work with and when it is slow we discuss some of the politics.  With the convention right here, we all knew what what said and how different news organizations are trying to spin it.

McCains age and Palins lack of experience and know these skeletons coming out of the closet, they are not feeling comfy with McCain.  The quickness to choose Palin shows complete lack of judgement.  This troubles most when put how McCain would react if it came time for a in the minute to push the button.

Even though many are spouting the Windbag and Calamity line Obama is going to raise your Taxes, That is overcome when asked if they earn $150,000 or more a year.

Then followed by who would you really trust when their finger is on the launch button.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

[ Parent ]
I'm fiscally conservative
and I'd be willing to pay higher taxes provided they were being used to pay for something productive and worthwhile like healthcare, education (non-religious), necessary infrastructure. . .

[ Parent ]
Moderate conservatives
...have got to be seriously considering jumping off the bandwagon at this point.  If they are republican for any reason other than being fundamentalist xtians, I can't see how they would think that McSame And The Unvetted is the better choice.  Even if they don't vote for Obama... if they vote 3rd party or stay home, that's one less vote for four more years.

[ Parent ]
Explains A Lot
This explains why the fundies are bending over backwards to praise Palin despite flaws that even they must recognize.  They were bracing for Holy Joe and realize they dodged a bullet.  They will never let McCain have a chance at a re-do.

Which really begs the question I am trying to ask myself: Who would I rather have a VP Lieberman or Palin?  I think Lieberman, which makes me feel dirty.

And the latest story to drip out, Palin has an old DUI.  (Which is no big deal since W broke that glass ceiling.)

Rumors
I guess that is "First Dude" Palin's DUI, not hers.  This is how rumors get started!

[ Parent ]
I thought in Alaska...
You got a DUI for free on your 17th birthday?

I'm from Wisconsin, and my parents are just younger than this.   Dad drove drunk for years.  I don't think he ever got caught, just did it for years.  In any case, I really didn't think that was a big deal in Alaska, whatever year that was.

Now, if he was preaching (has he said anything to anyone yet??) about DUI, that would be telling.  Otherwise, I figure it's a non story.

Time for bed :)

[ Parent ]
It shows not only that he's a captive of the right...
...but that appearance and short-term political gain always override responsible decision-making with these people.  It was more important to announce the running mate selection immediately after the DNC than it was to wisely choose the running mate.  If they didn't have her vetted, they should have waited.  Any responsible candidate and campaign team would have.

What is really a shame is that McCain isn't actually a maverick who stands up to his party.  Can you imagine if he had picked Lieberman?  Would have gone over like a lead balloon with the public in the first place.  Then the christians would have launched their warfare and provided a televised spectacle during the convention--overriding their nominee's choice and installing Palin.  And then this media storm and collapse of her candidacy would have happened.  It would have been an epic, completely public, and undeniable failure.

Oh well.  I hope at least word gets out due to the Times article that Dobson owns the Palin disaster.

"Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain" -- Iowa state motto

It will be just like Bush's National Guard "Service"...
Sarah Palin will have to stink to high heaven for God's Own Party faithful to give up on her.  "Troopergate," "I have gay friends," and the pregnant-out-of-wedlock daughter will be explained away in the same way Bush's year AWOL and 'administrative' discharge after he refused to 'donate urine' was glossed over as the faithful said, "Yeah -- Yeah!  He's got military experience (and Gore doesn't...)"

That always got my goat
...when they tried to paint Clinton as a draft-dodger but were completely mum on Bush going AWOL.  And of course it was a huge deal that Clinton "didn't inhale" but Bush did coke and was an alcoholic and that was forgivable.  I hate to break it to them, but the dems have been the moral high ground for quite some time, and the repubs just don't want to own up to it.

[ Parent ]
be prepared
as Palin's son ships out to Iraq, Biden's deferments will be an issue in this election

Conservatives/liberals reach Bristol stomp compromise
Conservatives/liberals reach compromise on Bristol Palin: Bristol will affirm that life is a good thing, give vaginal birth to the child and marry the Father. That meets the conservative agenda. For the liberal feminists agenda, after three months of marriage she will charge that Levi will not let her grow as a person and is verbally abusive. She will take out a restraining order against him and he will have to attend anger management classes. Three months later she will divorce him and will receive $5000 each month for child support. Levi will not be able to make these payments and will be incarcerated as a deadbeat Dad. He will not see the children ever again. Bristol works for her mother in the Office of Female Empowerment and takes night classes in dance therapy. Levi disappears within four years. And everyone lives happily ever after.

Throw a prenup in the mix and the story changes.
As Polyanna posted,
Babydaddy says he doesn't want kids. ruh roh. (4.00 / 1)
On his MySpace page, Johnston boasts, "I'm a f - - -in' redneck" who likes to snowboard and ride dirt bikes.
"But I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing, shoot some s- - - and just f - - -in' chillin' I guess."

"Ya f - - - with me I'll kick [your] ass," he added.

He also claims to be "in a relationship," but states, "I don't want kids."
http://www.nypost.com/seven/09...

He just might have to protect himself from any kind of things happening.  But reading his MySpace page,  Not wanting children and the rest doesn't seem like these two sheet sharers made the choice to get married, but marriage is being forced upon them.

The only tie he has to the Palin Family is he did the deed and she is pregnant.  I'd keep a close eye on Levi.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

he's 18 friggen years old
How many 18-year old boys do you know of who talking about wanting kids?

It's a shame that they're going to compound the difficulty of an unplanned teen pregnancy with what is likely to be an unhappy forced marriage.

McCain Received $47 million for Palin...and a new issue
The choice of Palin should be compared with reports that this is McCain's biggest fundraising month, and reports that he received $20 million immediately after choosing Palin.

This morning there are reports of yet another issue: when she was Mayor of Wasilla, she hired a connected lobbyist to obtain $27 million in federal earmarks, which goes contrary to her and her runningmate's position against federal earmarks. http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

Dr. Jillian T. Weiss

Was wondering
how on Earth he managed the 47 mil when I read that (and whether it was legal); good link, Jillian!

Why I could be Veep
GOPers are straight-facedly claiming that Palin has foreign policy experience because Alaska shares a border with Russia. I challenge her to a foreign policy smackdown.

My parents were born in Eastern Europe.  Their faced Russia head-on and even spoke the language of that evil empire.

I've studied European literature (okay, in translation, but still--) for years.

I've traveled extensively in seven European countries and interacted with their denizens.

I speak one European language and am learning another.

My own books have been translated into almost a dozen languages,

She has five kids?  Where have they gone? Both of my sons have traveled to Europe and one lived there for a full year, so hah!

I am getting my bumper stickers made up right now!

Yes, but
how many millions in earmarks have you been able to pull in for your small town and in what pagent were you a contestant, Lev?

sorry
"I've traveled extensively in seven European countries and interacted with their denizens."

That would completely DISqualify you as a VP for the Republicans.

[ Parent ]
Not--
--if I held them in contempt for their foreign ways.  Sneered, condescended, and spoke English loudly when they were too stupid to understand me.  And hated their food, manners, customs, and history.

as I keep telling people
I've been to russia so, despite my utter lack of any other political experience, I would make an excellent VP.  Heck, I and was even able to discover that my family wasn't celebrating my grandfather's birthday on the right day (as it turned out, what my family thought was a birth certificate was actually a bris certificate - one hell of a good reason to learn your family's mother tongue)

[ Parent ]
I smell Karl Rove all over this one
" reporter Elisabeth Bumiller says McCain was this close to selecting either Tom Ridge or Holy Joe but there was a roar from the Dominionists that those two pro-choicers would have resulted in a floor fight."

Reports that Rove was turned down when he called Lieberman to urge him to remove his name from the VP consideration list suggest he is in on this one.  McCain was forced into this one.

I wouldn't celebrate so quickly though.  If Rove is behind the scenes strategizing they'll spin the Palin pick to their advantage no matter what kind of dirt is found.  They still hold firm that the religious right will carry them through.

A side note. Has anything been posted on the Blend that the founder of the PUMA PAC, Darragh Murphy, donated to the McCain in 2000? A mole for the McCain campaign perhaps?

Good Lord!
