Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

McCain's chief adviser addresses LCRs -- but offers no support on LGBT issues

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu Sep 04, 2008 at 20:51:57 PM EDT

It's pretty significant that a McCain emissary dared to be seen hobnobbing with the Log Cabin Republicans, considering the strong anti-gay public position of the McCain/Palin ticket (and the watchful eye of Daddy D and the professional "Christian" set).

Steve Schmidt, a senior campaign strategist for the McCain campaign, dropped by a LCR luncheon during the convention to share with them that he has a gay sister, and to "pay my respect and the campaign's respect to your organization and to your group."

The Advocate's Kerry Eleveld reports:

In his brief remarks, Schmidt weaved in a personal anecdote about his lesbian sister and her relationship to him, his wife, and his children. "On a personal level, my sister and her partner are an important part of my life and our children's life," he said. "I admire your group and your organization and I encourage you to keep fighting for what you believe in because the day is going to come."

This convention marks the first in history that Log Cabin Republicans, an LGBT rights organization, have been fully credentialed official guests of the GOP host committee, and Schmidt is not the only high-profile party figure to address the group. Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, RNC treasurer Tim Morgan, and McCain political director Mike DuHaime - the first hire made by Schmidt after he took the helm in July - have all spoken at Log Cabin events this week.

It's important to note, however, that Schmidt didn't discuss McCain's opposition to any pro-LGBT legislation, and his support for state marriage amendments, and carefully avoided the LCR's mission to advance equality. He indicated only that "over time" more equality for gays "will be reached." Yeah, but it won't be thanks to the GOP as long as the fundies are have them by the short ones. The Republicans have been an obstacle to progress, not a partner.

There's video via Think Progress (w/partial transcript):

On a personal level, my sister and her partner are an important part of my life and our children's life. I admire your group and your organization, and I encourage you to keep fighting for what you believe in because the day is going to come. You are an important part of our party.

We as the Republicans are the party of freedom and as the party we strive to reach that goal and we'll keep fighting as a party to reach it in full. And I think over time it will be reached. And you are an important part of this party.

Man, who wants to be this guy's LGBT brother or sister? It's the classic GOP response - in person, individually, they have no problem with gay folks. They'll work with/for them, treat them on a personal basis as fair as the next person. But they can still sleep like a baby at night as they work during the day to curtail or block civil equality.

Bonus: Check out this article about gay Republicans trawling the clubs and defending McCain/Palin. A snippet is after the jump.

Pam Spaulding :: McCain's chief adviser addresses LCRs -- but offers no support on LGBT issues
A gay Republican might be an oxymoron to some. Don't tell that to Steve Majors, 28, a California delegate from Los Angeles. Majors and his friends -- all gay and some delegates -- hit the town each night after the convention.

...Majors' GOP comrades, especially Jeff Guillory, a member of the gay Log Cabin Republicans, enjoyed debating the issues, challenging gay liberals with, "What have the Democrats done for you?"

...Majors said Sarah Palin's positions on gay-rights issues -- which have drawn fire from gay groups -- are important, but voting for a candidate who is pro-gay isn't everything to him. "It doesn't define me," he said.

OK. Problem 1: Democrats have been lazy and spineless, but they haven't attempted to legislate what few rights we have away, and, in fact have at the state and local levels led the way in expanding rights. The GOP's record, aside from moderates in states where it's so Blue that being anti-gay is a career killer, is a big goose egg.

Problem 2: The "it doesn't define me" nonsense. I'm not sure WTF this means -- the wallet is more important than civil rights? The right to privacy and illegal search and seizure (oops, the Bush admin's assailed that for you), the War on Terror? For those of us committed to elected people who will advance rights -- and understand the importance of putting someone in the White House who will appoint pro-equality justices to the Supreme Court, it's not being LGBT that defines us, but that many of our civil rights and liberties are under attack as a result of the GOP being in power for so long.

These guys are so short-sighted (or in denial) that it's frightening.

Schmidt
I surprised he didn't slink into the luncheon incognito for fear of being seen by the Religious Reich gestapo.

He indicated only that "over time" more equality for gays "will be reached."

What he's actually saying is "You'll all be dead and long forgotten before gays will see any progress from a Republican administration".

yeah, the wallet is important
...to both the LCRs who'd rather revel in self-oppression while driving their Escalades, and the Walnuts & Lipstick campaign eager to pick the pockets of anyone without the sense to understand how evil these people are.

Friends don't let friends f&^% Republicans.

LCR
Ok, so they are a bunch of ignorant asses. We have all known that for years.

However, the DNC and Obama I may add, does not want to be closely associated with the GLBT community either.  I mean, Obama, to my knowledge has never shown up to ANY GLBT function or met with any GLBT leaders.  Ok, so he sends his wife to GLBT functions...big f*cking deal.  Hell, he will not even be seen in the same city as Gavin Newsom!

Yes I know that the GOP/christianist/fundamentalist/denialist party is full of a bunch of creeps, so why does Obama keep pandering to the right wing, e.g., Rick Warren sponsored debate, yet he cannot show his face at any LBGT function?

vanhattan

No doubt
No doubt the LCRs will seize on this as a justification for their endorsement of John McSame. Honestly, they are so hapless and deluded that it's become embarrassing to watch.

What have the Dems done?
Introduced ENDA
Introduced a hate crimes bill
Defeated the anti-gay constitutional amendments
Supported gay adoptions in some states.
Prevented roll back of partner and marriage rights in others.

And, my dear LCR's. opposed a war that we couldn't afford and reckless and ill considered tax cuts that turned the US unto the largest debtor nation in the world

When a notoriously fiscally conservative banking attorney has more faith in the socialist left than in what used to be the party of big business, then something is wrong with the Republican Party.

I tell you Chica that no greater abomination exists than women denying their spirit of sisterhood and instead becoming the oppressor. -Rebeca, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Translation
"It doesn't define me" = "I demand my white male privilege and I want to fuck guys, too!"

Republicans Win
Republicans embrace Christians because they rely on ignorance.

PALIN: Are you offended by the phrase Under God -- in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

Sarah Palin: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and Ill fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.

Isn't it good to make Democrats do more to compete for gay votes?
It's not healthy for the gay community to be taken for granted by the dems, and having the gop be too dominated by the theocrats.

It is a huge step forward that leading campaign officials were at this LCR luncheon.  This wasn't the case 8 years ago, when LCR endorsed Bush.

I did NOT hear any yapping about gay marriage during McCain's speech, though he talked about the "culture of life" - code words for making abortion criminal.

As an African American, I hear you
...but here's what keeps me with the Dems: whatever you think about their actions on behalf of minorities, they're generally the better party on education, poverty, the working class, and domestic policy. These issues indisputably affect the AA community.

I'm not gay, but I'd argue that even if the Dems aren't passing the best specific legislation, they won't pursue policies and appoint people to please an Evangelical base.

This is doubly true now that Palin's been nominated. As bad as the modern Republicans have been in terms of demagoguery, they have largely been wealthy cosmopolitan types who socialize with gays and didn't have their hearts in their hateful speech. They were just building a base because, if only the people who benefited from their policies voted for them, they'd get less votes than Nader. Palin truly believes this crap. She tried to ban a dictionary from her local library!

Giving the LCRs a cookie and small glass of milk
Damage control hoping the LCRs will vote for McCain/Palin in the neverending back stabbing they recieve.  As long as they can be lead to Vote for McDame/Palin, they dudes job is done.  And the Easy to screw over LCR will keep going back for more.

But just watch, the evilgelicals will nd the LCRS will be there as always.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Could he, um, have sounded, um,
more, um, tired, bored and, um, cynical?  Like he didn't, um, want to, um, be there are all but, um, realized, um, the necessity of, um, dropping a crumb or two to these um, dimwits.  If, um, this is the extent of the, um, McCain campaign's, um, commitment to the, um, LCR, they're even more clueless than, um, I thought.

Cynic, n.  A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be.
-Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary

I'm so sick of this
Dick Cheney has a gay daughter, Steve Schmidt has a gay sister, Ed Gillespie has a gay sister.  They all respect them as family members but they have no respect for the community to which they belong outside of their families.  When will the LCR see their party for what it is?
