The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

ABC report on Palin's inquiry into book banning at Wasilla library

by: Pam Spaulding

Wed Sep 10, 2008 at 11:15:00 AM EDT

Brian Ross of ABC has been digging into some of the myriad scandals swirling around Sarah Palin. In this report, he addresses Palin's inquiry into removing  books from the Wasilla town library, and her interactions with the librarian.

The transcript of the ABC report is below the fold.

Pam Spaulding :: ABC report on Palin's inquiry into book banning at Wasilla library
Contrary to reports all over the intertubes, there is no list of books that Palin requested the removal of. However, the transcript has plenty of information from locals on the wingnuttery of Palin on other matters:
ROBIN ROBERTS: No doubt Sarah Palin has a huge following already. So many love her, but many want to know more about her resume. The details of her tenure as mayor and governor are still coming into focus. And this morning, we have new information on one battle she waged as mayor of Wasilla, a battle that brought her toe-to-toe with a local librarian over which books were appropriate and which were not; something her critics say crossed the line into censorship. Our chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross has the details. Good morning, Brian.

BRIAN ROSS: Good morning, Robin. As the mayor of the town Wasilla, Sarah Palin raised questions about removing books in the public library and then tried to fire the town librarian. She says the two were not connected. Sarah Palin was elected the mayor of Wasilla in 1996, with the strong backing of her church, the Wasilla Assembly of God.

REV. HOWARD BESS: It wasn't just simply a matter of her using the religious right to get elected. She was one of them.

ROSS: Palin has since changed churches. But Assembly of God ministers are well-known in Wasilla for taking strong positions on moral issues, including this recent sermon by the current pastor.

ED KALNIN: Everybody in the world has a guilty conscience. That's why homosexuals wants laws of the land to justify their sickness; they have a guilty conscience.

ROSS: Around the time Palin became mayor, the church and other conservative Christians began to focus on certain books available in local stores and in the town library, including one called "Go Ask Alice," and another one written by a local pastor, Howard Bess, called "Pastor, I am Gay."

BESS: This whole thing of controlling, you know, information, censorship, yeah. That's a part of the scene.

ROSS: Not long after taking office, Palin raised the issue at a city council meeting of how books might be banned according to news accounts and a local resident, a Democrat, who was there.

ANNE KILKENNY: Mayor Palin asked the librarian, what is your response if I ask you to remove some books from the collection of the Wasilla Public Library?

ROSS: The Wasilla librarian, Mary Ellen Edmonds, the then president of the Alaska Library Association, responded with only a short hesitation.

KILKENNY: The librarian took a deep breath and said, the books in the collection were purchased in accordance with national standards and professional guidelines, and I would absolutely not allow you to remove any books from the collection.

ROSS: A former town official and Palin ally says Palin's questions were only rhetorical.

JUDY PATRICK: There were no specific books that were ever banned from the city. Mayor Palin did enquire of the librarian about the policy of removing books from the library.

ROSS: A few weeks after the council meeting, the mayor fired the librarian, although she was reinstated after a community uproar.

JUNE PINNELL-STEPHENS: You'd like to hope that elected officials understand the role of the librarian in democracy; that is to provide access to information to everybody in the community.

ROSS: The Wasilla librarian, Mary Ellen Edmonds, left two years later, and according to friends, because it was just too hard working for Sarah Palin. In a conversation with me yesterday, the librarian said she could not recall Palin ever asking for specific book titles to be removed from the shelves, but she acknowledge her treatment by Palin had been very rough - "I just don't care to revisit that time of my life," she told me.

ROBERTS: I'm sure. Brian, you know there's so much out there on the internet. And much of the information is wrong. In fact, in response to your story right there, the McCain campaign sent out this three pages to us. And they're trying to shoot down as much as they can. In fact, there was on the internet about a list -- a long list of books. That just wasn't true.

ROSS: That not true, that long list of books that some may have seen on the internet, that's simply made up. That was not part of this discussion. The mayor did raise the question of how to get books off the shelf. If people were picketing the library, would you take books off the shelf? The librarian was offended by that, as were members of the Alaska Library Association, who to this day remain very wary of Sarah Palin.

There will be people
out there that agree with what she did 'for the good of the people' to save us ungodly people.

Separation of church and state is a must!

This morning
and just this morning a reporter on NPR was saying this is all rumor!  Just more ammo from the elite media trying to discredit her!

What BS!

The fact that Palin raised this issue at a city council meeting
even if considered "rhetorical," was over the top. Why would she even need to raise the question if there wasn't some movement to ban some books in someone's mind?

That is the question which, it appears, Ross failed to ask - and given Palin's association with some wingnut church, there should have been some reason why she would have bothered to ask the question, particularly and pointedly, in a city council meeting.

Rhetorical isn't an excuse
If the question was rhetorical, then Palin really was trying to bully the librarian.

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply. For example, "Why me, Lord?"[1] Rhetorical questions encourage the listener to reflect on what the implied answer to the question must be. When a speaker states, "How much longer must our people endure this injustice?" or "How many times do I have to tell you to stop walking into the house with mud on your shoes?"; no formal answer is expected. Rather, it is a device used by the speaker to assert or deny something.

And for those of you who think PPP is overstating his case:
...just two weeks ago, when Palin's church, the Wasilla Bible Church, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus.

Palin's pastor, Larry Kroon, introduced Brickner on Aug. 17, according to a transcript of the sermon on the church's website.

Brickner...described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity.
Ben Smith, Politico.com

When later interviewed by CNN, Pastor Kroon could not with 100% certainty confirm that Plain was in the church that day, but he said he is fairly sure that she was. When pressed, Kroon went on to say that Wasilla Bible Church stands by Brickner's assertion that terrorist attacks against Israeli [Jews] are God's judgment for not being Christian.

So according to Sarah Palin's pastor the church that she belongs to teaches (and believes) that it is meting out God's judgment to murder Jews. That may not have been Hitler's justification, but it was, specifically, the justification that has been used for massacring millions of Jews over the previous 1000 years--which Hitler well knew and played upon.

Palin=Nazi is not so far off base.

A church group tried to ban books from our school libraries
when I was in High School...and they had a long list. The students and faculty went ballistic (but were exceeding civil and polite at the school board meeting, the parents on the other hand...). The students took on the churchies and pounded them with their own bibles. The faculty threatened to walk out of the classrooms. Parents were furious and basically told the churchies to mind their own children and to stop pushing their agenda on everyone else.

The school board voted unanimously against considering the ban (it was to brought up as new business when the floor was opened).

The students and faculty found out that the churchies were going to propose the ban about 24 hours before the board meeting. The churchies didn't expect a packed room...and especially didn't expect half the student body to show up.

I'd have a hard time staying civil, if I were a parent
or even a non-parent adult. I'd have a hard time stopping at "clueless" and "unAmerican", and would be likely to progress to "pathetic", "ignoramus", "of little faith", etc.

Creating a chilling environment
There is no justification for asking a librarian how to ban a book.  It is profoundly anti-democratic and creates a chilling environment for freedom of thought and expression. I'm not at all surprised that one of the title's on the suspect list at the Wasilla library was on a gay topic.

On a personal note, libraries and librarians have been incredibly important in my life.  As a terrified kid deeply in the closet, the library was the first place I could find unbiased, nonjudegmental information about being gay.  I would hide in the stacks at the back of the library and read a chapter at a time.  Always on the alert for the approach of a librarian or another patron so I could slip the book back onto the shelf to hide it (incidentally, a trick I learned reading Poe's "The Purloined Letter").

One of the most important steps in my coming out was to check out a book with a gay theme.   As a geeky kid and inveterate reader, I often checked out 10-15 books at once. This time I approached the counter with a pile of at least 25 other books hiding that one gay title.  I was literally shaking as the librarian stamped the due date in each book, then handed me the stack with a smile and said, "enjoy your books".

Today I find it mildly irritating to discover a title like, "Coming Out of Homosexuality" on the new book shelf, but then I pick up the gay-themed dvds I have on hold from the reserve desk and give thanks that in America, the library has something for everybody.

Howard Bess rocks!
Back in the day (1992), there was an Ordinance before the Anchorage Assembly trying to add "sexual orientation" to the list of protected classes for Municipal employees. (It passed then they voted out most of the supporters in the next election.  Then it failed.) Howard Bess from the ultra-conservative Valley openly supported it.

I was on one of the non-profits that was supporting it and I got obscene phone calls and all four tires slashed--he got serious death threats.

Howard and his wife have been unswerving in their love and caring for the gay community.  He was marrying gay couples...in the Valley.  You guys have no idea what that meant in 1992.  He had non-Christians going to his church just out of love and support.

Howard Bess is such a wonderful, truly spiritual man.  I wish you all could meet him.

Thanks to Howard Bess!
What denomination does he serve?

Where are the Swift Boat Librarians?
I know librarians work to remain neutral arbiters of information, but can a couple of them come out swinging on this?

Here's a great article about the importance of freedom of information and the role of libraries in our democracy:

http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/ift...

My favorite quotes:
"American public libraries flourish out of a commitment to the principle that knowledge and access to information empower the individual. Libraries embody the firm belief that information must not be the exclusive province of a privileged few and that it should be widely and freely available to all."

and

"Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis spoke directly to the stakes involved: 'Fear of serious injury cannot alone justify suppression of free speech and assembly. Men feared witches and burned women. It is the function of speech to free men from the bondage of irrational fears.' Others have feared ideas and burned books. It is the function of libraries and librarians to protect ideas and books and access to them."

The Nazi's burned books...
Perhaps if the librarian had said yes, we can ban books.  I'm sure she would have said lets get a list together and we will do it and pray together.  This "creature" is a control freak.  If she had her way this would be a theocracy.  Here is a song dedicated to her.

So do I understand this correctly?
- Sarah Palin asked the librarian about banning books, but did not name any specific books
- The librarian said no
- Sarah Palin for some reason worked to get the librarian fired soon after?

...No, it says PALIN (herself) fired the Librarian..

and that she was only reinstated after community uproar.  And that somehow she tolerated working there two more years. (this is a librarian that is President of the STATE Librarian Association).

and that it was horrific time in her life working for Palin.

Lets see as VEEP she will have how many people working for her???

Exactly...
...but the apologists will say that they had nothing to do with each other, gosh no.

Even the stated reason
was that Palin didn't want people working for the city who weren't down with her agenda and loyal to her personally.

STORY is spreading
To Even Mention Book Banning is Sarah Palin at Her Dangerous Worst

"The mere suggestion of book-banning should set off alarm bells of epic proportion across the country.

The fact that Sarah Palin, the Republican would-be veep, approached Wasilla's librarian with a 'how would you react to banning books?' question should not only give us all pause, but make us run shrieking in alarm to editorial boards in every nook and cranny of this country.

Besides that question being pulled out of her ass, it didn't come from nowhere"
  http://www.opednews.com/maxwri...
Palin's Book-banning Efforts
". But as long as McCain aides are talking about this issue, maybe they can answer a couple of additional questions, such as, "Why did Palin try to fire the librarian in the first place?" Or how about, "Why did Palin broach the subject of book-banning if she had no intention of trying to ban books?"

I thought McCain needed to pee in a drug test cup for selecting Palin, NOW I want every white woman voter in America who is fascinated with this UNSTABLE Christian Reich woman they've known for 2 seconds and ONE speech, to pee in a drug test cup before voting.
THIS IS INSANE!
I hope Jewish voters are watching this garbage, Palin was UNQUALIFIED to be a MAYOR, she abused that power immediately, then as Governor she used her influence to strike out in a personal vendetta, and used her husband and co-workers for this scheme...now you want to give her CHENY'S POWER with an old fool sitting in the oval office who doesn't know how many houses he OWNS?
CHRIST if Bush's second term armed this queer, Palin makes me want a bunker and grenades.

beyond removing books from the library
the church and other conservative Christians began to focus on certain books available in local stores and in the town library,

This is the first I heard that they were looking at going after more than the library. They were really considering trying to make sure private citizens couldn't purchase books in book stores as well?!?

What - You are surprised?
I just got this video from The New Republic. It is quickly making the rounds. I wrote a little note to Sarah ( gov.sarah@yahoo.com ) and asked if she REALLY has any gay friends.

Banning books is nothing new for the bible thumpers,
If you remember a while back in Arkansas, This was nothing but an attempt to ban books.  Using every tactic from his sons 14 and 16 finding the the book and being shocked.  Sueing for $20,000 in damages for each son.

Well his sons didn't get a dime, and it was never the intent IMO.  But they did succeed in having the book removed.

"God was speaking to my heart that day and helped me find the words that proved successful in removing this book from the shelf," Adams stated Thursday

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

"Log Cabin Republicans is a grassroots organization and our membership overwhelmingly supports endorsing Sen. McCain," said Log Cabin Board Chairman Pete Kingma.  "Our board and staff members have spent recent months getting input and feedback from our members.  The consensus among our members is strongly in favor of an endorsement because of his inclusive record.  Our members also support him because he's a maverick; a trait most recently on display with his decision to select Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate."
