The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Values at the Values Voter Summit - Obama as a Muslim Aunt Jemima

by: Pam Spaulding

Sat Sep 13, 2008 at 16:31:19 PM EDT

UPDATE: FRC must have received a lot of blowback because it's issued a press release to respond to this bigoted tripe. See it below the fold.

The Values Voter Summit is taking place this weekend, and along with the usual bloviating and bible-beating rhetoric, we have the high-minded Dominionists of Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council sponsoring a booth at the convention selling this item, which it calls "political satire." (Minneapolis Star Tribune)

Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed "offensive material." The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

The box was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix. They sold it for $10 a box from a rented booth at the summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

David Nammo, executive director of the lobbying group FRC Action, said summit organizers were told the boxes were a parody of Obama's policy positions but had not examined them closely.

Fomenting an Aunt Jemima stereotype along with the Obama-as-Muslim smear in one nice package -- what would Jesus do? Some of the luminaries of the right attending and speaking at this conference include:

Most see this for what it is, others, well...
I have always known the the Focus on the Family group was conservative, but I didn't know they were choosing to act as a surrogate for the Ku Klux Klan. There is absolutely NOTHING funny about this.

At least the racism is right out there on the table for all to see in the light of day. Values Voters?! KKK values, apparently. Make no mistake about who these people are.

Take mercy on these poor bastards and explain what satire is so there won't be any more embarrasing acts like this.

Sadly, the modern-day version of the party of Abraham Lincoln has come full circle to revert to selling racism in a box for $10. Pathetic.

They can't find anything concrete that's wrong with Obama -- no smoking gun, so to speak -- so they resort to this garbage. I would be embarrassed to be a Republican if this is an example of what they're like. Most of them are clueless as to what real life is like.

I've always said that if this country is to be attacked by an enemy, it will be by domestic nuts like this, not foreign. Think Timothy McVeigh.

I have never understood why debasing another person makes one feel good about yourself? Are you saying your supporters are nothing but moronic racists....or is that just the segment you wish to appeal to? Dems wish Obama would "hit back" But do you want our candidate to roll in this gutter?

This is such a...non-story. This is just liberals looking for something to be offended by.

"No story"? Things like this need to be covered. This type of behavior needs to be brought out into the light or it will never stop.

This kind of racist garbage has no place in modern America, let alone in an election. The white trash fringe that find this sort of thing amusing need to slither back under their rocks now.
posted by SteveKroll on Sep. 13, 08 at 2:45 PM |

Why do these people not represent the truth about Obama. Represent him for what he is proven to be: A black racist on Sunday during his church services as Reverend Wright savagely attacked white America. This went on for twenty years. Plus his financial support to violent ex-weathermen members Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn to the tune of three hundred thousand dollars of taxpayer money. How can a black racist and a supporter of violent terrorists of the past become the President of the USA? Wake up people and vote your conscience.
posted by waitex on Sep. 13, 08 at 2:53 PM |

the Muslim tie-in doen't make sense...but what is RACIST about it? Now before you get all riled up with a reply - think first and look at the image. Other than the headwear depicted, it's a caricature, plain and simple. Just like the beady eyed, Dumbo-eared ones we've been seeing of GW the last eight years. Just because he's black, doesn't make him immune to caricature's. And if he isn't muslim (?), than let the ones that created the image wallow in their own stupidity for insinuating that he is. Intolerant, cpunks2?? Take a look in the mirror, my friend.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 13, 2008
CONTACT: J.P. Duffy, (202) 679-6800

Statement by Family Research Council Action Executive Director David Nammo September 13, 2008

We strongly condemn the tone and content of materials that were exhibited by one of the vendors at this weekend's Values Voter Summit.  The materials represent an attempt at parody that crosses the line into coarseness and bias.

The exhibitor contacted our reviewer just days before the Summit by email and described material that sounded like it was devoted to political flip-flops on policy issues.  When the content of the materials was brought to the attention of FRC Action senior officials today, they were removed and the exhibit was dismantled by the vendor at our insistence.  It is our responsibility to fully vet materials that are offered at any event we cosponsor, but we are deeply dismayed that this vendor violated the spirit, message and tone of our event in such an offensive manner.

The Values Voter Summit represents a coming together of many long-established organizations that work across denominational and ethnic lines to celebrate and promote the family and a culture of life.  We reject any communications that divide and distract us and frustrate these principles. Bishop Harry Jackson's High Impact Leadership Coalition, Gary Bauer's American Values, and Alliance Defense Fund join us in rejecting this material.

I'm sick of all this stupid hate politics; on BOTH sides
Politics is all about division. Politicians are highly incentivized to divide people, because that is a way to get people excited. That's why we have this stupid abortion debate, or the stupid gay marriage debate, or all the rest. It is all about hate, division, and factionalism.

This sort of hate politics is by no means the sole property of the Right. The Left goes just as far overboard. All politicians, all political groups, look to divide us.

I now no longer want to be a part of this divisive system. There is a new, promising, collaborative, uniting solution on the horizon. I invite anyone who is sickened by the stupid divisiveness of politics to explore the Metagovernment and see what wonders the future can hold. All we have to do is make the politicians obsolete. Would anyone mind that (other than the money-grubbing politicians)?

The left goes overboard?
Can you give an example of the Left using "hate politics" in the U.S.?  I don't mean the corporate center-right Democratic party -- I mean the Left.  I see some standing up for principle being called "hate" and "greed" -- usually by the right wing -- but I've yet to see anything along these lines, except for some bits from ineffectual pseudo-left manarchists.

[ Parent ]
Look around
Maybe the mainstream liberal politicians don't use hate speech, but for example have a look at alt.politics and you'll see plenty of hate on both sides.

There are plenty--PLENTY--of people referring to conservatives as fascists, retards, and many less friendly things. Look at what they have to say about Palin. It ain't exactly the politics of unity.

[ Parent ]
Facts aren't hate speech
If you have something good to say about Palin, please say it. I have yet to find out one thing I like about her or see any policy/perspective of hers that I agree with.

Fascist isn't hate speech. It's the sad truth. It describes the repressed, police-state, group-think, protected wealth-and-corporate-power political and legal climate Sarah Palin would like to see happen to America.

I don't have to hate an individual on a personal level to see that they're totally unfit to hold public office. I don't have to hate any group's beliefs to know that the forced infliction of those beliefs on a country would be dangerous.

If you want to see hate speech slung at Sarah Palin, start by looking on cafepress for those t-shirts that say "McCain/MILF 2008." That's misogynist hate speech right there.

God save ornery old queens! - kevinchi

[ Parent ]
Sounds like a Democrat--
The rest of us still think there's a difference between spirited criticism -- or even hyperbolic criticism -- and demands that other people's rights be removed.

[ Parent ]
What's next? We get rid of all the lawyers?
What is divisive about asking equal pay for equal work?  What is divisive about asking for equal protection under law?  What is divisive about asking for equal access to health care and education?
I am not convinced that diversity of opinion could be divisive, I believe it strengthens our unity.  Drawing a line in the sand and vehemently defending one's deepest convictions with reckless disregard for the society at large is what I would consider to be divisive.
It is at the core of certain ancient philosophies that the natural harmony between order and change shape the evolution of humanity and nature.
By the way, I am curious as to what in your opinion is divisive about Barack Obama's clearly outlined policy views on the issues regarding the war, economy as well as equal access and equal protection under the law for everyone?
I am not sure that there is anything more divisive than unbridled fundamentalism which has undisputedly, as recorded throughout history, fettered social and scientific progress.
Just food for thought.
Cheers.

[ Parent ]
I don't see it
Listen to Obama's acceptance speech at the convention. It is a litany of attacks on McCain. Not ad hominem attacks... but nonetheless, very much divisive politics. As usual.

As for what is divisive about the other things you mention; perhaps nothing in itself. But the unwillingness to work with the other side, the constant we're-right-you're-wrong attitude coming from the left isn't going to solve anything.

[ Parent ]
What I heard was that
...by the way, I did watch his speech more than once, Obama simply articulated on fundamental differences between his and McCain's policy views as well as McCain's voting record on the issues concerning all Americans. I would not consider pointing out the contrast between one's view with another to be divisive.  Also, I would not agree with your comment about ad hominem attacks on McCain simply because Obama has on many occasions invited McCain to a debate on plethora of issues.
As it pertains to your ridding of all politicians comment:
I would submit to you that we are all "political animals", whether we are aware of that fact, that's another story.  We interact and socialize with others at work, home or elsewhere where we are constanly engaged in politics and not necessarily be talking about republicans or democrats.  Politics in simple terms is social intercourse.
That said, I do agree with your point about reaching across to other side and building consensus with opposing views (that's at the core of social progress), however we must not allow majority rule to transform into a mob rule.  And to that point, we must enact legislation which guaranty safeguards for everyone (please look up history of genocide, tyranny and basis for discrimination).

Cheers.

[ Parent ]
Majority rule is terrible
Have a look at the link I provided. They are expressly against both majority rule and mob rule. They seek genuine consensus, and believe that it can be realistically achieved, first in small communities, but eventually in any size of community.

If we are all political animals, why do we let so few people have a real say in politics? Why not everyone?

The Real Issue Here...
Is that by refusing to take the "Low Road" the rightwing nuts never get a dose of their on bitter medicine.  For Example: Sarah Palin offers a virtual Cornucopia of opportunities ranging from the Typical White Trash/Hillbilly Standards to the Uneducated or Under-educated to the Hypocrisy of failing to teach her own daughter to respect herself enough to practice the family values that Palin herself stresses.

Let's NOT forget the fact that the standard that Republicans have held up for years as the Paradigm of Moral and Social superioritybeing that: They are Better Educated, Well Bred, Virtuous are all MOOT now that a family of color embodies those very same attitributes.  So they are rewriting what is socially acceptable qualities for leadership.

Politics is a dirty game and one shouldn't assume that a party that has played dirty since FOREVER will suddenly develop ethics.

No Offense to my European American sisters but the gloves have to come off, they have to.  The Obama Campaign HAS been made aware of this, their offices being inundated with calls from disgruntled supporters and I strongly believe that if Obama is gonna lose that he go down fighting.

How about an ad Featuring Elizabeth Fritzl (the woman held captive in the family's cellar by her father) for 24 years?

She was held FAR longer than McCain! Hell she should be president as I have a hell of a lot of RESPECT for her survival skills and judgment.

Yeah I know that the Republicans with fall all over themselves spinning that out of context but you get my point.  Fritzl has shown better leadership skills than McCain, and forget Palin.

Why post this?
This is a) not funny (well, that's my opinon); b) not true, as a man who owns 7 houses cannot be considered a poor white person; and c) offensive for one of the same reasons that the Obama Waffles are offensive, namely that it an ad-hominem attack using racial imagery.

seriously
If you are going to post here, have half a brain.  The term cracker has nothing to do with "a poor white man". Cracker is pejorative because it implies oppression, i.e. the rich, white, slave owner cracking a whip.  I certainly think it is appropriate, McCain's policies and values are oppressive.

Si Hoc Legere Scis Nimium Eruditionis Habes

[ Parent ]
Get a dictionary...
... before you call me brainless.  Mine defines the word as an "often offensive another term for poor white".

[ Parent ]
Your dictionary isn't complete
The typical definition for many African Americans is:

cracker
Noun. Slang word used to refer to those of European ancestry. The word is thought to have derived from the sound of a whip being cracked by slave owners.

Folk Etymology
There is also an apocryphal belief that the term dates back to slavery in the antebellum South. The popular folk etymology is based on slaver foremen using bullwhips to discipline African and African American slaves, and the sound of the whip being described as 'cracking the whip'. The foremen who cracked these whips are believed to have been known as 'crackers'

-----------

Most of the white folks I know think "cracker" means poor and white. Most of my black friends believe it means any white person who is racist and represents oppression.

I've never heard a black person use the term to mean a white person in general and rarely a poor white person. A white person typically has to commit an act of racism in order to be called a cracker.

So, what we have hear seems to be a cultural difference (keep in mind I don't know what race either of you are).

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

- Abraham Lincoln.

[ Parent ]
make that "have here" (I'm tired)

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

[ Parent ]
... so I'll go to one that arguably is
From the full Oxford English Dictionary, emphasis mine:

4. U.S.

a. A contemptuous name given in southern States of N. America to the 'poor whites'; whence, familiarly, to the native whites of Georgia and Florida. Also attrib.

According to some, short for CORN-CRACKER; but early quots. leave this doubtful.

1766 G. COCHRANE Let. 27 June (D.A.), I should explain to your Lordship what is meant by crackers; a name they have got from being great boasters; they are a lawless set of rascalls on the frontiers of Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas and Georgia, who often change their places of abode. 1767 N.Y. Mercury 21 Sept., in Mag. Amer. Hist. (1878) II. 250 A number of people called Crackers, who live above Augusta, in the province of Georgia, had gone in a hostile manner to..Okonee. 1784 Lond. Chron. No. 4287 Maryland, the back settlements of which colony had since the peace been greatly disturbed by the inroads of that hardy banditti well known by the name of Crackers. 1850 LYELL 2nd Visit U.S. II. 73 Sometimes..my host would be of the humblest class of 'crackers', or some low, illiterate German or Irish emigrants. 1856 OLMSTED Slave States 548 The operatives in the cotton-mills are said to be mainly 'Cracker girls' (poor whites from the country). 1887 Beacon (Boston) 11 June, The word Cracker..is supposed to have been suggested by their cracking whips over oxen or mules in taking their cotton to the market. 1888 Harper's Mag. July 240 They will live like the crackers of Georgia or the moonshiners of Tennessee.

b. attrib.; the Cracker State, Georgia.

1808 Balance (Hudson, N.Y.) 6 Sept. 144 (Th.), [Verses by] a cracker planter. 1838 C. GILMAN Recoll. Southern Matron xix. 130 The servant told us that a cracker man and woman were in the drawing-room. 1872 SCHELE DE VERE Americanisms 659 Georgia..little deserves the name of Cracker State, by which it is occasionally designated. 1887 Harper's Mag. May 843/1 Numbers of lawyers would gather together and relate their observations of Cracker life. 1908 Daily Chron. 26 Aug. 7/4 Our cracker guides go everywhere in thin cotton trousers. 1910 Washington Herald 27 Nov. 9 Through November the 'Cracker State' has occupied the center of motordom's stage.

I do understand that the word is commonly used as a retort against white people who are perceived to have said or done something racist.  That doesn't change the underlying meaning, though, and I have now shown you, with a reference to arguably the most complete and authoritative English-language dictionary on the planet, that your proposed definition leaves out a meaning that makes the word inapplicable to John McCain.  No no matter how despicable or racist he is, he is not poor.

[ Parent ]
I kind of feel bad for the GOP
I mean, look at the difference between right-wing talk radio and progressive talk radio.  The biggest difference is that we've apparently cornered the market on funny.  Between Franken, Garofalo, and Maddow, (hell, even Colmes is funny on his radio show) if I were a conservative, I'd be pretty bitter, too.

# Duty, duty -- honor is, is --
Honor, Creideiki -- alertly
# Shared, is -- Honor #

Is this another result
of a good, clean xtian upbringing?  Seriously.  The creators of the product are now claiming that it isn't offensive, that it's satire. Christ on a pringle! Jonathan Swift is satire. Twain is satire.  This is indefensible racist BS.

The scary things to me are: a) republican leadership won't decry this too loudly; it's a (slightly) less nuanced version of their bread and butter rhetoric after all and b) this will actually play to many of the Bush 20%'ers/Nugent-Skynard listenin mouth-breathers. This kind of crap is inspirational material for the McVeighs of the country.

Can you imagine the wall-to-wall coverage if anyone even tangentially associated with the Obama campaign made a similar product directed at McCain or Palin?

Electricity's for light bulbs!

The serial number, "IBD14UOK" when read aloud, is fractured English: "I be de one for you OK."

What does the state GOP leader have to say? : "I don't want to micromanage", "My recommendation is that it is better to focus on the shortcomings of Barack Obama's record and his lack of experience in this campaign."

we were there and have a box
We were at the Hilton today (Saturday) and wandered through the exhibits. We were horrified by this display and my boyfriend called them racist m______f_____s to their faces. He then went to every press person in the hotel and told them about it. He even talked to Gary Bauer about it, who could have cared less. I think today was the first time the press saw this (even though the display was there on Thursday and Friday) because no one told them about it until we did today. I assume the press doesn't normally walk through the exhibits. I will tell you that every person we showed the box to was shocked - jaws dropped every time. If you saw it in person, you would be shocked too. This is a big deal and the conference organizers finally realized it, shut the exhibit down, and issued this absurd press release.

Breakfast bigots in the heartland of the Nashville music scene
The wacko website for the product claims they are now available at Books A Million... yikes....

Though they were smart enough to mask their domain registration, their own publicity says they share founders with Brothers Pizza 1441 New Highway 96 W # 9, Franklin, TN 37064-4831, (615) 791-8383

Wonder how the large Country and Contemporary Christian Music recording artist population in Franklin feels about having their community tied to such filth?

Stephen Baldwin's not the only washed-up celebrity at the Values Voters Suckfest.

"This is such a...non-story. This is just liberals looking for something to be offended by."

And gay sex is what conservatives are looking to be offended by.

2.

"Why do these people not represent the truth about Obama. Wake up people and vote your conscience."

Waitex is typical KKK trash, using such words like "black racist" and "white America".  Or is he being sarcastic?

3. "Value Voters" suck at satire.

The lesser of two weasels
Michelle Bachmann?

Stephen Baldwin?

Which of these two is less qualified to talk to anyone about anything?

A Request
DeMoss states in the several of the articles that the boxes will soon be on the shelves at Books-A-Million, the third largest chain bookstore in country.  I have emailed Books-A-Million (feedback@booksamillion.com) and asked for a confirmation of this.  (These crazy wingers would rather make up stuff than tell the truth.)  It wouldn't hurt, and I would appreciate it if you all might email and ask them about it too.
