The McCain campaign is the gift that just keeps on giving.  I'm almost tempted to wonder if she is a crypto Obama supporter who said this because she knows how ludicrous it sounds.  The alternate explanation is, sadly, Pams: racism.

If the polls are right, and if election were held today, Obama would win 22 states (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin) and the District of Columbia to secure 273 electoral votes.

McCain would take the rest (including the battleground states of Florida, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia) for 265 electoral votes.

NEW CNN polls

The poll shows a tight race for Ohio and its 20 electoral votes. The new survey suggests that 49 percent of registered voters in Ohio back Obama and 47 percent support McCain

In North Carolina, which Bush won by 12 points in the last presidential election, the poll indicates that 47 percent of registered voters back Obama, just 1 point behind McCain.

FL is tied 48 48

Taking into account these new polls, CNN now estimates that if the presidential election were held today, Obama would win 233 electoral votes and John McCain 189. There are 116 electoral votes up for grabs; 270 electoral votes are needed to win the White House.

Runs averages and simulations and algorithms and the whatnot to get their projections. They acknowledge that there is seems to be a reversal happening, but their model is pretty conservative and will take some time of Obama sustaining a position on top for their model to shift.

Today, McCain is leading only one national poll, Rassmussen.

Doing her bit.

For example, she canceled some plans she had at the UN when she learned Palin was going to attend and make it a political campaign circus.

That said, I am on Hillary's email list for my state, and I've yet to receive anything urging us to get out and volunteer of Obama.  Perhaps that is a matter of timing and where I live (a state likely to vote Obama), but I am disappointed at the relative silence.  THAT SAID, I'm totally pissed off at Obama for tacitly supporting CA's Prop 8 while he courts the LGBT vote.  So you see, no one in this game is pure.  Just like "The Lady", don't point fingers unless you want to see some pointed right back at you.

I have Chinese pottery from Imperial times...

it's a shard, stoneware peasant goods, apparently these are sold by the 1,000s, cheap, to tourists. Someone brought me one as a gift.

Actually, I am.

I want someone with brains, a reasonable knowledge base, ability to learn quickly, ability to listen to and benefit from different points of view (requires some humility), and common sense running the country.

I hate to be THAT guy, but

I can't help to wonder regarding the racial overtones of her comments.

I was talking about this sort of thing at work today. When folks say that Obama is too elitist or he does not "appeal to the average working person," what does that mean.

Black folks aren't the average working persons? And for that matter, there has been hardly any information regarding how Obama's nomination may move the African-American community to vote in large numbers.

1. If you buy your pearl necklace from a high-end jeweler, then you're an elitist.  If you buy a pearl necklace from either Zales, Jared, or Kay, then you're not.  If you get your pearl necklace from Bill Clinton, then you're definitely not an elitist.

2. If you think that owning seven homes is normal, you might be an elitist.

The elitism charge

This endless enervating campaign to brand the Democrats as elitist goes back to Nixon. Intelligent voters and students of our culture owe it to themsevves to read Rick Perlstein's amazing Nixonland--it's like a political thriller--and see in gory detail how he and his henchmen permanently changed our political landscape.

The sad thing is that the charge works over and over and over again.  The GOP levels it at the Democrats (cf. Bush vs. Kerry) and it never fails to stick even when its made by someone as intrinsically silly as Lady de Dingo.  Maybe McCain's cluelessness about the economy and the smart ads Obama's running will make a difference this year, but even if he wins, the rhetoric Nixon bequeathed us has poisoned our politics.
