But Mr. McCain is certainly seeing the risks of making such a direct intervention. He now finds himself in the middle of an ideological war that pits conservative Republicans, loath to spending so much taxpayer money on Wall Street, against the Bush White House, which, with the support of Democrats and a sizable number of Republicans, sees a bailout package as essential to averting a potential economic disaster.

and yesterday all they could talk about was how HE was the one stalling all the substantive talks.

It appears McCain's campaign put out an ad this morning declaring that he won the debate.

Between him and the wicked witch of Wasilla, this whole thing just keeps getting more bizzare by the day.

The Democrats will MAKE Paulson and Bush/Cheney go on camera and denounce the House Repg phoney insurance "plan" that Paulson in private meetings has already said wouldn't work.

John McCain spent much of this week saying he wouldn't attend tonight's debate with Barack Obama, and it wasn't until this morning that the Republican candidate confirmed he would participate.

That indecision and stunt playing did nothing, however, to quell his campaign's confidence their candidate would trample Obama, because they've already prepared an ad declaring "McCain Wins Campaign." It accidentally ran on the Wall Street Journal's website this morning, before McCain said he would be there tonight.

As for McCain's odds tonight - well, let's just say we wouldn't bet on him.
