The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

CA: Prop 8 support bolstered in dramatic turnaround

by: Pam Spaulding

Wed Oct 08, 2008 at 09:00:00 AM EDT

The anti-equality forces have seen a boost in support for Prop 8, the same sex marriage ban on the ballot.
In an urgent announcement, the NO on Prop 8 campaign, Equality for All, today convened a special briefing of the LGBT press around the country. The campaign released new polling data that shows the opponents of Proposition 8 losing ground as proponents continue to flood the airwaves with misleading television ads. Proposition 8 is the November ballot initiative that eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry in California.

"Our most recent polling data shows us four points behind," said Geoff Kors, a member of the NO on Prop 8 Executive Committee. "And unless we raise significant new dollars, we will not be able to compete with the proponents on television." The latest poll from Lake Research shows the race 47% Yes and 43% No.

"While our poll didn't surprise us, it did confirm that we were starting to lose ground because we simply cannot match the proponents dollar for dollar on television," said Steve Smith, NO on Prop 8 Senior Campaign Strategist. "We wanted to let LGBT community know that there is a level of complacency and false sense of security, and we wanted to set the record straight."

This is the ad featuring Gavin Newsom, is credited for boosting support for  the measure:

NEWSOM: "This door's wide open now. It's gonna happen. Whether you like it or not!"

Four judges ignored 4 million voters and imposed same-sex marriage on California. It's no longer about tolerance. Acceptance of gay marriage is now mandatory.

That changes a lot of things: People sued over personal beliefs. Churches could lose their tax exemption. Gay marriage taught in public schools.

We don't have to accept this. Yes on 8.

Rex Wockner has photos and additional coverage. Here's where you can donate to Vote No on Prop 8.

Join this Facebook effort to get Ellen to donate to No On 8.

Last week, Ellen Degeneres made a powerful statement against Proposition 8 during her appearance on The Tonight Show.

Since Ellen came out 11 years ago, she has been an inspiration to the LGBT community, and many others. We applaud her for all that she has done for equality, and congratulate her on her recent marriage.

We also ask her to join us in taking one more step: making a donation to the "No on 8" campaign, which will protect marriage equality in California by defeating Proposition 8.

Whether you are LGBT or straight, join the effort to inspire Ellen to donate to this historic, winnable campaign. We also ask that you make a donation to the No on 8 Campaign yourself; donations of every amount make a difference. It will take all of us, giving what we are able to, to ensure a victory in this critical campaign.

A look at the latest anti-gay email effort from the American Family Association is below the fold.

Pam Spaulding :: CA: Prop 8 support bolstered in dramatic turnaround
While the serious matter of defeating Prop 8 and the rest of the amendments should have our attention, you'd think that Dapper Don Wildmon of the American Family Association really shouldn't waste his time on this tactic.
Drop PG&E as your natural gas supplier

Angered by PG&E'S Blatant Support of Homosexual Marriage? Switch Natural Gas Providers!

October 7, 2008

Dear Friend,

As you know, PG&E has joined the homosexual activists in trying to destroy traditional marriage. PG&E donated $250,000 to defeat CA Prop 8. Thousands of pro-marriage customers have complained, but PG&E is simply laughing at those angered by the PG&E action. PG&E felt there was nothing their customers who disagreed with their support for homosexual marriage could do

But PG&E is wrong! There is something you can do. The Pacific Justice Institute has found that all PG&E natural gas users have a legal right to the gas provider of their choice. Want to send PG&E a real message? If you are a PG&E customer, you can switch providers! And save money, too!

Under California law, all residential and non-residential consumers can choose an alternative natural gas provider. Research shows that alternative providers, year over year, have reported saving their customers up to 15% off their natural gas bill compared to PG&E.

"There is no reason why pro-marriage homes, small businesses, corporations, apartment owners, schools or churches should continue to support companies actively opposed to traditional marriage," said Brad Dacus, President of Pacific Justice Institute.

For more information, here's how to switch from PG&E to another provider.  If you are not a PG&E customer, please forward this to your family and friends who may be PG&E customers.

Thank you for caring enough to get involved. If you feel our efforts are worthy of support, would you consider making a small tax-deductible contribution to help us continue?

Sincerely,

Don

My donation
Donated to the "no" forces in honor of former Georgia Attorney General Michael Bowers, the bastard GOP adulterer who represented the state in Bowers v. Hardwick back in the 80s, which was later overturned by Lawrence v. Texas (it overturned sodomy laws in the country). Bwahahahahahah!

We've donated everything we can afford
we've talked to everyone we can. I don't know what else to do. We got married on the 22nd of last month and to think it'll all be for nothing come the November vote makes me sick to my stomach.

Cause any fool knows, a dog needs a home; a shelter from pigs on the wing

Your Marriage is NOT "all for nothing"
If you married the one you love, then it is not for nothing, and we shouldn't get depressed about ONE poll with these results.  If it were the last three or four polls with these kinds of numbers, then I'd start worrying, also as has been pointed out to me on this very site, Your, and My, marriages will remain in tact after this election regardless of the outcome...

Here is a quote from an article on this poll:

http://cbs5.com/local/proposit...

It should be noted that the poll, conducted statewide Oct. 4 and 5 among 670 likely voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percent, and the pollster continued to label the race too close to call - just as it did eleven days ago.

"Polling on ballot measures in general is an inexact science, and polling on homosexuality in general is a tricky business. So, not too much should be made of the 5 points that separates 'Yes' and 'No' today," concluded a summary of the results prepared by SurveyUSA.

It should also be noted that when looking at the margin of error, that these numbers could actually be read as Yes (change the Constitution) 43.4 and No (leave the Constitution alone)46.6.  This would make the poll almost exactly the same as the last poll this organization did when comparing the MOE.

And here is a link to the poll itself:

http://static.cbslocal.com/sta...

and the link to the previous poll that shows the results as similar when comparing the MOE (3.9%). Yes: 44% (MOE considered as high as 47.9)     And NO 49%  (MOE considered as low as 45.1).

http://www.surveyusa.com/clien...

Needless to say, we still have work to do, and that money I won't be giving to the Presidential campaign is now going to this fight.  It is time to make anothe donation, even though I can ill afford it from a financial point of view, I can't afford NOT to give.  I guess being in debt to my credit cards is going to be a fact of life after this election.

And congratulations on your marriage.  I am thrilled for you and celebrate your union.

Try to keep positive, you have a lot of people who support you!

I made my donation and wrote a pretty funny (of course, I'm sleep deprived so it may not be funny but it does drive the point home) email to Ellen.

We need to organize a rally at Colton Hall in Monterey.

People need to know the history of the California Constitution and how hate and intolerance marred it for 73 years.

I WANT Newsom, ...and the GOVERNOR...

..and all the other celebrities who said they would work against the measure to open up and be counted. One ad from the GOVERNOR would sway lots of undecideds, especially if he calls out the lies in these ads.

Where are Ellen and George and others who could be saying daily,..."Look has my marriage hurt yours?' Will loving my spouse and children keep you from loving yours?

Where is HRC with all its $$$??? Or don't they support GAY MARRIAGE EQUALITY??

Just a Thought
What I find interesting is that at least one of the adverts that the "Yes on 8" campaign had broadcast - the one featuring Pepperdine Professor Peterson - hasn't turned into a bigger scandal than it has. Or perhaps I've become too used to living in a country with an Advertising Standards Authority that makes it virtually impossible for an advert to tell the kind of bald-faced lies that Peterson is. After all, in any nation or state with solid antidiscrimination legislation the kind of religious discrimination he claims will take place should be theoretically impossible, shouldn't it? It is in "liberal" Europe.

They took out the Pepperdine tag
Just thought I'd add that as I'm not sure if anyone else has seen the recent change in that ad.  I guess Pepperdine din't want to be associated with it.  I see the ad every day many times since I live here.  It's a little frustrating but I still have hope.

not on their online ad
on goodasyou, they discovered the pepperdine tag still exists on the online version of their ad.

[ Parent ]
The spread is not that wide
I think we can rebound if more people donate to get more ads on air. But we are clearly not a lock to win this. Complacency is dangerous. Conventional wisdom says that California is so liberal and it's a slamdunk  for our side. This is clearly not the case. LA, and The Bay Area are bright blue. But CA is a very large state and much of the inland is conservative. We can't take anything for granted.

We need more celebrity support but it's also a double edged sword. Many conservatives hate "liberal" Hollywood and having Brad Pitt speaking up for us also makes them more determined to see Prop 8 pass and energizes more of them.

A loss in  CA would be an extremely damaging setback. FL or AZ are also important but California because of it's size and diverse population is the bellweather for our future.

I live in a red part
There are "No on Prop. 8" signs everywhere.

I haven't seen a single "Yes on Prop. 8" sign.

There are three houses on my street with "No on Prop. 8" signs and none of these folks are even gay.

There is even a house the next block over with a McCain/Palin sign and a "No on Prop. 8" sign.

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

- Abraham Lincoln.

I live in a blue part
There are no "Vote No on Prop 8" signs here either....
I've only seen one Vote No bumper sticker....

I've done my emails, I've made my contributions, but all I get from the No campaign is "send money"....no demostrations, no rallies, no notice about where to get yard signs or other swag...

I'm discouraged and disappointed...not because of this latest poll, but because of the lack of "take action" leadership from the Vote No campaign...just send money or sign up to volunteer to phone people to send money.

JUST heard back .....

from Geoff Kors office...re little hint that HRC might want to send a little $$..

and to get the Governor on it.  If I hear from Joe I'll let you know.

A Day Without Gay People
What if LGBT people throughout California took a day off sometime in the next 2 weeks and went to marches and rallies against Prop 8?

We need to remind voters that this is about real human beings. We need to remind them of all the ways LGBT people contribute to this state - and there is no better way to do that than to stop doing that for a day. At these rallies, we need to have people tell their life stories and why marriage is so important to us. We need to go back to our co-workers, our friends and our family and let them know that this is not some abstract issue, that this is personal and that we will hold them personally accountable for their votes.

We can't expect straight people to understand that this is about fundamental human rights if we don't believe it ourselves and act accordingly. So far, I have seen no evidence of this. It has been pretty much business as usual in the community. I remember much more activity during the Anita Bryant crusade (which was in another state on the opposite coast) and the Briggs Initiative (Prop 6) to ban gay teachers. There were marches, meetings attended by more than a thousand people, fund-raisers everywhere, bars boycotting Orange Juice, etc. Maybe these polls will wake people up and end the complacency.

We should challenge the Yes on 8 campaign to a debate. Mark Leno would be a great representative for our side (NOT Gavin Newsom, please).

This appeared in the BAR a month ago, by your truly
This is for you, Claude W. I think they are running this campaign exactly the wrong way.

To begin with, I am no one in particular-- just a happy gay man who hopes my marriage will survive the election. I am politically aware, knowledgeable on gay issues, as out as I can be, and possess a decent understanding of humanity. I have no political axe to grind.

After the No on 8 kickoff, I spoke briefly to a man who is very high up in gay politics. I asked if they were going to repeat the campaign against Prop. 22: talking about being nice, tolerance, freedom, etc. Or, would they deal with the substantive issues of anti-gay prejudice, and the social, financial, and legal impact on gay people, especially those with children, of not having marriage available? He responded that the focus groups had shown that undecided voters respond best to the former approach, and that would be the emphasis in order to move those voters.

"Do you mean to say that you are going to fight an anti-gay marriage initiative without showing any gay people or even talking about marriage?" While conceding that personal stories and real people are relevant, he repeated what the focus groups show, and that political processes like phone banks will trump personal stories. Liberal tolerance will be the message.

I pointed out some things to him. A smart friend of mine saw the anti-8 ad where a straight bride is continually prevented from getting to her wedding. Until she got to the very end and saw the No on 8 message, she had no idea what it was about. She reasonably wondered why a heterosexual wedding was featured when the discussion is about gay people. I told him of my experience against the Briggs Initiative thirty years ago, when we were fighting the invisibility of the closet as well as that hateful legislation. The public could see real gay people, not the  phantasms of the rabid Right. And that reality moved them.

I also pointed out that this strategy has been tried repeatedly, and possibly except for Arizona in 2006, it has yet to work. It failed miserably against Prop. 22. Now, I am not immersed in political culture. And I know that there is far more to politics than merely presenting issues and people voting. The politico may well be right, and I, quite wrong. Though his approach has merit, it is very troubling to me. It smells uncomfortably of the closet, which I have long maintained is the real enemy, not the Radical Right. It tells us to be invisible, not to talk about our lives and the REAL issues we face, lest we offend some undecided voter who needs to be manipulated into doing the right thing.

It avoids the larger issue of anti-gay prejudice, an apparently invisible 800 pound lavender gorilla. Research and experience show that people who know gay people tend not to vote against them. If we do not show gay people, we remain a faceless, menacing other, instead of friend, neighbor, or family. It is easy to vote against someone who is invisible. This was the lesson of Briggs and Prop.22.

I can see producing commercials featuring pretty straight girls. But why are we not also showing the couple who have been together for forty years, and who, because they cannot marry, are not eligible for each other's pensions, guaranteeing one of them an old age of poverty? Why not show the two women who are raising their children, children who deserve the same protections that marriage would bring their family as it does their hetero counterparts? Why are we not showing the minister marrying two men in their church, surrounded by their happy, cheering families? Why are we not showing indignant Rabbis and Episcopal, UCC, and other ministers who don't want a few denominations telling them what to do? Why are we not showing the man who nursed his partner through a heart attack? Why are we showing anything but us?

I cannot insist that I am right, but my life's experience tells me I am. And telling the truth, especially in the face of so much hate and lies, is never a mistake. What if we lost this election because undecided voters say, "I voted yes because I don't know any gay people, or anything about them. And I didn't get that commercial."

Which brings me to my final point. If you want to do the minimum against Prop. 8, unless your physical safety is an issue, COME OUT NOW-- especially to your family and friends. Not eventually, not next month, but NOW. Ask those people to vote NO on 8 for your sake, or, if they cannot vote no, at least, not to vote on it.

Be the change that you would see in the world.  This will be your gift to the future.

they are playing dirty....
We all need to do what we can so they could have a response ad.

Is anybody reaching out to "no on 8" activism on myBO or Facebook?
There's an almost-5000-person Facebook group; mobilizing some of them for help with phone-banking could be very useful.  There might also be fundraising possibilities ... see the post I just made on the One Million Strong group's drive in process.

In terms of myBO, I remember mcc posted something about a group there a while ago.  This'd be a great time to do a blog post and start trying to forward it around aggressively ...

Michelle Obama We Need You
I just posted this comment on Daily Kos.

As a black gay man I was so looking forward to Election Day as the day that 2 dreams came true - the election of a black President and securing the right to marry for same-sex couples in California. Now it appears that the realization of the first dream may make the 2nd dream impossible. The latest CBS/SurveyUSA poll has black voters for Prop 8 by 52% to 34%. To make matters worse, the other group of energized Obama voters which might have offset that - younger voters age 18-34 - have now turned against us too by 53% to 39%. This is very distressing. We have got to turn those numbers around.

We need a campaign addressing the African-American Community with messages from people including those oppose gay marriage but who oppose taking away a right granted by the courts.

Michelle Obama we could really use your help! I really believe that the Presidential race is safe enough for Obama that she could record an ad against Prop 8 without hurting Obama's chances. Even better if it ended with Obama saying that "I approve this message". That could really help in the black community and it would instantly make them heroes in the LGBT community all over the country. The few remaining LGBT PUMAs would disappear overnight and we might get close to an 80% LGBT vote for Obama. It's probably too much to hope for but it sure would be nice.

Obama's endorsement of Jim Crow
is almost unbearably painful.  It's cruelty takes my breath away because Obama is someone who knows better.

At this point, that's exactly what we need.
If only people (of all races) who support same-sex marriage vote with us, we are going to lose. We have to reach people who are personally opposed to same-sex marriage with the argument that you shouldn't take rights away from people, even if you disagree with a particular court decision that established those rights in the first place. The people with the most credibility to make that argument are others who personally oppose same-sex marriage. It's not so different than politicians who say they personally oppose abortions but who support Rowe vs. Wade.

Moreover, sometimes I think we need to take a step back and look at this objectively. This is a HUGE change in society we're talking about. I don't know how old you are but I can tell you that most gays and lesbians of my generation (baby boomers) never thought we would see this in our lifetimes. Many of us didn't even want it ourselves when it first came up. Sometimes younger people lack perspective.

If the Internet and blogs existed 10 to 15 years ago and there was a record of every one's opinions over the years, I'm sure we would see quite an evolution of thinking of many people here. In my case, there would have been a lot of talk about assimilationism and not everyone wanting a home in the suburbs, 2.5 children and the white picket fence. In fact, you can still find comments such as these from me on David Cullen's Brokeback Mountain Forum from a few years ago. I was definitely from the Brian Kinney (Queer as Folk) school of thought.

We are asking people to accept something that goes against everything they were ever taught. Something this big takes time for people to adjust. If our own thinking can evolve, so can that of straight people and especially straight politicians.

Last night I saw a preview of the movie Saving Marriage, which will be opening this weekend in some cities. It is about the fight for Marriage Equality in Massachusetts. Over the course of the movie we see a straight Republican who introduced the amendment to replace marriage with Civil Unions at the first Constitutional Convention get up an oppose the same amendment with his name on it at the second Constitutional Convention two years later. It was an amazing moment.

Right now, having a President who supports complete repeal of DOMA, granting all federal benefits to same-sex couples, whether in a Civil Union or marriage and who opposes attempts to amend state (and federal) Constitutions to ban Marriage will be a huge step forward. At the federal level, what more could he do anyway?

Want only your money not your activism
Just went to Vote No on 8 web site to see if there's any events coming up this wkend....
Well under events, there are multiple events happening today in SF, SD and LA...did I get an email about it???? of course not...the campaign sends endless donate now emails but to notify me of an event???? guess not.

Also, there used to be a page listing all the Vote No offices around the state.  That was under the Events pull down, now all I can find is the Contact us info...main SF and LA offices that's it...

There's no there, there. Sigh.

call your local NO ON 8 office.
yep, they are behind on the web end.  but i called the san jose office yesterday to make my plans for next week, and they're up and running like crazy.  this is one of those times where we don't have the luxury to do nothing because our campaign could be better run.  the election is only a month away.  please try to set aside your valid criticisms and just get the work done.  the phone banks need you!

It's as though the liberals have a manual...
HOW TO LOSE A SURE BET IN FOUR EASY LESSONS

1) Concentrate on TV/radio spots to the exclusion of all else.

2) Run your campaign based on the dictates of Public Relations idiots who don't have a clue about politics but are experts on selling predatory mortgages and used cars.

3) Ignore the fact that Californians is a state where minorities are a majority. Refuse to challenge the cult leaders and Presidential candidates who preach bigotry in these communities. Refuse to spend money on ads and literature specifically directed at these communities in their languages.

4) Supinely remain silent when Biden and Obama undercut your work with their bigoted views on same sex marriage. Refuse to publically challenge and vilify them for their bigotry. Let them off easy because they're Democrats.

The looter rich much prefer working with Democrats like Obama and the Clintons - they're greedier, they fool more people and they're able to get away with a lot more than Republicans.

Obama owes us...
It was not the Newsome ad.

The polls were turned when Obama spoke at Saddleback and more recently when Biden, who voted for DOMA and DADT and refuses to apologize, repeated his bigoted opinion that same sex marriage is wrong, agreeing 100% on that with McCain, Obama and Palin. That's what gave people on the fence the go-ahead to vote their bigotry.

The future of same sex marriage rights in California hangs by a thread because of the failure to mount an all out effort to take the battle into the Black, Latino, Asian and immigrant communities - abandoning that effort will cost us the election. This situation has to be remedied yesterday.

Secondly we're losing ground financially. While Obama and Biden do the bigot two-step opposing same sex marriage their campaign has been raiding our financial base in California, raising millions of dollars that'll be wasted on opponents of our agenda.

We should demand that the Obama campaign turn over $1,000,000.00 to No on Eight every time he or Biden talks like a bigot and shoots off his mouth about how they, Palin, Bush, McCain and 'god' agree that we don't deserve the right to marry because we're second class citizens.

If these frauds turned over the $9,000,000.00 they raised about a month ago we'd be about even with their friends in Yes on 8.

In any case, donate what you can, http://www.votenoonproposition...

The looter rich much prefer working with Democrats like Obama and the Clintons - they're greedier, they fool more people and they're able to get away with a lot more than Republicans.

As I often do, I agree with donal.
I keep finding the headline "Gay Marriage Opponents thank Obama".

Biden standing up there and saying "no marriage" doesn't help any either.

[ Parent ]
NO NO! The GOVERNATOR owes us.....

Schwarzenegger promised to help and has anyone seen or heard him...???

How about he signs a proclamation for all our young (and older) gays for COMING OUT DAY on Saturday...

and it includes a WHEREAS... we all know that our Constitution supports EQUAL MARRIAGE rights for all, therefore, I agree with our California Supreme Court and Propostiion 8 is not constitutional, please defeat it on November 4.

WHERE IS HE! He could sway the latinos, and blacks and everyone who ever watched one of his movies!!

It's the Hammer of JUSTICE,
It's the Bell of FREEDOM,
It's the Song about LOVE between,

...All over this Land.

Good Point. OK, put pressure on both of them....
But don't expect help from either. Both have the views of bigots concerning same sex marriage.

Neither is on our side, both are our opponents. It's a bipartisan thing. There's no practical difference between the two.

The looter rich much prefer working with Democrats like Obama and the Clintons - they're greedier, they fool more people and they're able to get away with a lot more than Republicans.
