Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Civil unions begin in New Jersey

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Feb 19, 2007 at 07:30:00 AM EST

At midnight, civil unions in the Garden State began. This is the third state -- after Connecticut and Vermont -- to create CUs, and unions in those states will be recognized by NJ, as will marriages from Massachusetts and the five countries that allow gays and lesbians to marry. (365gay.com):
Despite the Presidents Day holiday some county clerks offices will be open today for couples to get licenses. Offices in Asbury Park and Lambertville, which have large gay communities, opened at midnight.

...Last October the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples must have all the rights of marriage.  The Court gave the New Jersey State Legislature 180 days to act on the decision to grant same-sex couples the rights and benefits enjoyed by different-sex married couples but left it up to the legislators to decide whether to call it marriage or civil unions.

...The legislature opted for civil unions. But, that say civil rights groups, amounts to separate but equal.

The hope is that since the court ruled that marriage and CUs must be equal, this will be challenged as legal loopholes are encountered that prove the two are not equivalent in practice.

See BlueJersey's coverage of the first civil unions being issued -- Steven Goldstein, chair of Garden State Equality, and his partner of 15 years, Daniel Gross were "civil unionized."

I prefer civilly united...
...but no matter. What I want to know is, can a heterosexual couple who prefers it get one?

The past is not a shadow theatre. What rules there is not the ephemeral, but the irreversible. --Gen-Col Dmitri Antonovich Volkogonov

That would be interesting to know
If they can't, then it's not really equal right?  Then again, why should they if it's all the same anyway?  The point is, we should all be considered having civil unions because we all have to go through the civil process to get recognized.  Even if a straight couple had a religious ceremony ONLY, that wouldn't be recognized because they didn't go through the civil process.

BTW, civil unions will never be equal to marriage until they are recognized as equal federally AND internationally.

Until we can take our civil unions to Australia, China, Zimbabwe, whatever and have them recognized, we're not equal to hets by law.

"... then it's not really equal, right?"
It's as equal as apartheid has always been.......

"... then it's not really equal, right?"
More like equal as in "Separate but Equal" as applied to education of African-Americans before "Brown vs Board of Education".

not going there
callie, I don't recommend a trip to Zimbabwe at this time.

[ Parent ]
As you suspect, separate and not equal
No, the NJ civil union law is JUST for same sex couples...you know separate and not quite equal....different sex couples can only get married.  Although I believe heteros over 62 can get civil unionized (same here in Cal for state notarized DPs).  The reason for this is seniors can keep high end SS benes and pensions from deceased spouses which would be reduced if they married again...of course same sex couples can't lay claim to a same sex spouses SS benes or pensions no matter how long they have been together.  I'm not sure what the provisions of VT and CT CUs are in this respect.

not sure about hetero 62 y.o.s in NJ
I read through the NJ law when it was passed, and I don't recall any allowance for 62 y.o. hets getting a CU.  But of course I can't find the file now to doub;e check.  Ugh!  Anyway, the plan in WA is to allow seniors to get a DP (which is a very, very threadbare, strip-down, crumb off the marrage cake) along with s-s couples of whatever age.  I think it's a great idea, since it might get some of the otherwise prudish older crowd behind passing the crap we have to live with for now (you can see i'm never going to settle for cus, dps, etc :).  it'll be in their own best hetero interest, making it much easier to pass.

no, they can't
and if that isn't proof that CUs are a bigoted institution, dunno what is.

Congratulations...
...to the NJ couples uniting today.

Since most are probably affirming an ongoing (rather than beginning a new) life together, best wishes for continued harmony and happiness to all of them.

...

P.S. I never thought about it before, but the verb 'unite' has lots to recommend it.  It sounds so strong and durable, as opposed to the disposable (to so many, these days) relationships created with the verb 'marry'.  The het fundies may get jealous.  Good suggestion, Ridger.
