The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

"but we will soldier on." On Prop 8

by: theantidesi101

Thu Nov 06, 2008 at 17:13:22 PM EST

( - promoted by Pam Spaulding)

Many of my friends found themselves in awe the past few days. In awe of the fact that this nation has elected it's first black commander in chief, but also in awe at its continued penchant for bigotry.

"Thousands Protest Over Prop 8, LAPD on Tactical Alert"
Photobucket

George Takei, one of the most visible gay Asians-Americans today, was one of the few Americans able to articulate their frustrations so soon after these humiliating defeats for the LGBT movement:

Best known for his role as Mr. Sulu on “Star Trek,” Takei on Wednesday was disappointed but philosophical about California voters’ decision to yank that right by passing a constitutional amendment restricting marriage to heterosexual couples.

“There are going to be heartbreaks, setbacks and sacrifices to be made,” he said, “but we will soldier on.”

Indeed we will soldier on...
theantidesi101 :: "but we will soldier on." On Prop 8

Photobucket

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

From the darkest moments of the LGBT rights movement have risen the greatest coming together of our community. If victories make us complacent, it is our defeats that rally us to a new level of community and activism. We stood up after mortal blows from Anita Bryant pushing her anti-gay vitriol in Florida. We rallied to the bedside of Matthew Shephard in his family's time of tribulation. More recently, we re-committed our vows to protect our youngest members in the wake of the murder of Lawrence King by a fellow classmate. In the wake of the passage of Prop 8, we see now and will see another historic re-awakening of our community.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
   Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Our temporary defeat only makes our eventual and inevitable victory all the more sweeter and cherishable. We are millions of human beings who love, mate, embrace, parent, mentor and live. The only difference is our non-heteronormativity.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

To every hurt soul out there, prop 8 is not your future. Your future is happiness, your future is community, YOUR FUTURE IS THE OPTION TO START A FAMILY OF YOUR OWN. Your future can be wedding vows. Your future can be love. Your future can be all those annoying things married couples complain about. Your future is not defined by the forces of the past, the forces behind Prop 8. Your future is the only age demographic that opposed Prop 8, those 18-29 years old.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

We're going to continue the struggle because a wise human once said, the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.

I am motivated and energized by our TEMPORARY setbacks.

Conservatives are on the wrong side of history.

My fellow progressives, just remember:

They once fought us on women suffrage, yet on Nov. 4th we had the highest women voter turnout in 90 years.

They once fought us on interracial marriage, and love prevailed.

They once fought us on segregation, and now we have a black President.

They fight us now on marriage equality, but one day I will marry the man of my life.

They demean our relationships, but one day I will adopt my 1st child.

They call us immoral, but one day a Hindu priest will consecrate my committment to my future husband.

They will fight us, but we will always prevail.

It may still be dark, but morning in America is always a few moments away.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

This is far from over,
I am glad we see it as a set back and not defeat.  Minds can only be changed in our favor and not the other way around.

 WE WILL PREVAIL

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Great poem, great pics
Love the Angelou poem.  The black experience and the gay experience aren't quite the same . . . but I think the feeling of being hated, of being shoved to the margins, not wanted, not welcome, is the same, at bottom.

I'm proud to see my gay brothers and sisters demonstrating peacefully but forcefully out there in L.A., at the Mormon temple and wherever.  Now's the time to unite, stand and fight in every nonviolent way for our fundamental rights.

See my essay at my blog on "Our Time, Our Challenge, Our Victory." http://bluetruckredstate.blogs...

Lead on, California.  Here in Texas, there's not a prayer of seeing even domestic partnerships anytime soon, ALL gay unions are totally illegal and invalid.  We red state gays are counting on you all to lead the way in this.  Because CHANGE has come to America.  HOPE has arrived.  There's no turning back, no stopping us now.  One day, we will win this fight.

Yes We Can!

Sam Cooke, Why Have You Left Us?
It's been too hard livin'
But I'm afraid to die
'Cuz I don't know what's up there
Beyond the sky.

It's been a long, long time comin'
But I know, a change is gonna come.

Oh, yes it will.

*******

But you know, Blenders, sometimes change just can't come soon enough.  I haven't let myself cry about this yet, but I'm about to.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, but it's going to take a few days (weeks, months) for some of us.

Until then...

It's not over until the fat drag queen sings
and she's not singing until we win.

Fetch my pearls, I need to clutch them!

Excellent Diary - Thank you
We're going to continue the struggle because a wise human once said, the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.

"BEND BABY BEND"

Two Constitutional Amendments need to be started now.
And what a better time to start gathering signatures than now.

The first would be adding an amendment to tax the churches. They have injected themselves into not only forming public oppinion but putting those into law and constitutions.  Economies need the Money, Gov't have taxed every other aspect of life, but the church, it is time to pony up the cash.

Second would be over turning H8. Get the signatures now, we have two years to prepare and win the battle if the lawsuits fail.

With the amount of time we have we wont need to spend as much money to get legal signatures to put this on a mid term election.  And if we can get out the vote in a mid term, we could succeed, although I believe the Gubinator is up for re-election in 2010.  Throw his dumb ass out as well.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

"Second would be over turning H8"
The second one should be an equal rights amendment.

It should specifically guarantee the equal rights of:

- Women
- Gay and lesbian people
- Bisexual people
- Transgender people
- Immigrants (those not born in the U.S.)
- Non-religious people

This would nullify Prop. 8 and provide civil rights protections to others who may be victimized by similar laws in the future.

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

- Abraham Lincoln.

I completely agree,
I am now trying to find who the black preacher that was on CNN that said, we have to SUCK IT UP,  his comment on CNN got my blood to boil.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

[ Parent ]
Yeah, let's start rolling!
Let's do it! What's the procedure to get those amendments on 2010?! I'm pissed and will not stand and face injustice in MY LIFETIME! Hell no, let's get this show on the road!

[ Parent ]
Tax the churches
Pushing for this amendment will make even pro-gay churches turn on our community.  It seems really self-defeating.  We need more allies, not enemies.

Yes signatures to overturn...
A pledge effort.  If every gay person got their friends and family to sign.  Or each person pledge so many signatures, just like say fundraising walk for Breast Cancer or AIDs fundraising, except this time signatures....we could get enough.  And just do this again and again until there's equality for all.

All products produced in Utah are boycotted by LGBT Americans.
You can thank your LDS elders for this boycott.

Utah faces boycott after Mormon work for Prop 8

By BROCK VERGAKIS - 3 hours ago

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah's growing tourism industry and the star-studded Sundance Film Festival are being targeted for a boycott by bloggers, gay rights activists and others seeking to punish the Mormon church for its aggressive promotion of California's ban on gay marriage.

It could be a heavy price to pay. Tourism brings in $6 billion a year to Utah, with world-class skiing, a spectacular red rock country and the film festival founded by Robert Redford, among other popular tourist draws.

"At a fundamental level, the Utah Mormons crossed the line on this one," said gay rights activist John Aravosis, an influential blogger in Washington, D.C.

"They just took marriage away from 20,000 couples and made their children bastards," he said. "You don't do that and get away with it."

Salt Lake City is the world headquarters for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which counts about 62 percent of Utah residents as members.
Sundance and Park Cityy and Alta ski resorts were the first three letters I sent, then I went through lists of top Utah companies...they aren't hard to find with "THE GOOGLE."

Good news from Maine!
Just got this email and signed up immediately to volunteer:

http://equalitymaine.org/news/...

With some work, Maine may soon be joining Massachusetts and Connecticut in recognizing same-sex marriages. And then? Well, the saying is:

As Maine Goes, So Goes The Nation!!!

One person- one vote- one state at a time. Until a final goal of all 50 has been acheived.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

Double Whammy
If Maine legalises gay marriage through a ballot initiative in 2010, it could give Obama the motivation to repeal the parts of DOMA that deny same-sex couples federal marriage rights.

Awesome.
Thanks for the link, Louise. I've just signed up. I recall hearing that they got something like 30,000 signatures just on election day. I hope it comes through the college system soon so I can sign it. =T

Updated story, Baldran
Try 35,000 signatures! :)

http://www.wcsh6.com/news/loca...

And don't forget- almost 200k absentee votes for Maine, including me and the husband.

So who knows how many of theose folks, like us, are supporting allies who didn't sign up because they weren't at the polling stations on Election Day...

What have we learned?
Did we push for too much too quickly?

http://www.indegayforum.org/bl...

Excerpt from Jonathan Rauch's opinion piece:

Digesting the bitter Prop 8 news, I'm disappointed and sad to have lost gay marriage in California. The adoption of a constitutional ban there has set back the cause by years. What's more frustrating, though, is what I'm hearing from people on our side. "This just shows why civil rights shouldn't be put up for a vote." Or: "We lost this one, but there are other courts to try." To me this translates as: "We're determined not to learn from defeat."

Not just one defeat. On gay marriage, we're now zero for 30 on state constitutional bans. Think about that. Has any other political movement in the history of the United States compiled such an unblemished record of total electoral annihilation? An introspective movement should be doing some fundamental rethinking at this point.

I understand how shocked and hurt people are about Prop 8, but for me, the Obama election trumps everything else because on this, change will have to come from the top as well as the bottom (no pun intended).  For eight years we've had homophobia transmitted from the White House and its minions, endorsed, approved of, even celebrated.  That's over.  So from the big picture view, we've just moved way forward as a nation, and more narrowly, Californians still have civil unions, which most states do not have.

"In order to maintain an untenable position, you have to be actively ignorant."  The Colbert Report

Rauch is Wrong
On two counts. We are not 0-for-30 on Constitutional changes, we are 2-for-32. In both Massachusetts and Connecticut we have prevented any alterations to the state Constitutions to add anti-gay hate amendments. Of course, both CT and MA have much more complicated processes to amend Constitutions, which is a big reason why we prevailed.

He is also wrong that the "timing" was wrong. There is never a "right" time to fight for basic human rights. Rather, the mistake we have made is two-fold - we have not fought the amendments correctly (e.g., calling the hate for what it is, making the comparison between being gay and, say, being Baptist - which is also an immoral lifestyle choice, at least to some Americans) and we have not blamed the right people: the anti-gay bigoted leaders who began these attacks in the first place.

We have been under siege, in one way or another, since Anita Bryant started her lies, slanders and dehumanization 30 years ago. We have allowed the anti-gay hate movement to make that hate into a respectable political position, and that is where we need to attack now. I am thrilled to see the protests in CA, and hope they spread nationwide, and target not just the Mormons, but the Catholics (I was raised Catholic, BTW) and Protestant churches who helped spread this hate. Tolerance is a two-way street and we have been too nice for too long.

[ Parent ]
Not just those two
In both Massachusetts and Connecticut we have prevented any alterations to the state Constitutions to add anti-gay hate amendments.

Actually, here in North Carolina (yes, that newly-Blue state so many of you still think of as full of nothing but Bible-thumping rednecks), anti-marriage amendments have been continually thwarted from coming up in the Legislature by our very excellent Equality NC group.

[ Parent ]
What is it we should learn?
Should we stop asking for our rights because our neighbors might want to take a vote on them?

This amendment was going on the ballot regardless of the lawsuit that got us marriage equality in CA. So I don't get it--what should we have done differently? Not resisted Prop 8?

You can't be suggesting that we should stop litigating. That doesn't make any sense. We got family protections in 11 states, and marriage in 3 of them, by making 'all the rights but not the word' the centrist position.

In 1993, the notion that we might be arguing over our full equality in at least 14 states--not our right to have sex in our own bedrooms, not whether we can raise our birthed or adopted kids, not whether we can be fired if the school board finds out--was laughable.

We've come a long way. We have miles to go. And if Raush, or anybody else, wants to be a leader, he might want to notice that leaders are going forward, not backward.

But wait, there's more!

[ Parent ]
California DOES NOT have Civil Unions...
How one gets a California Domestic partnership is to send in a witnessed or notarized form...

That IS NOT going to the registrar and getting a civil union.

The devil is in the detail...our enemies use conflat this confusion also by claiming that voting against my marriage isn't taking away my rights because DPs have all the same rights as marriage.....well except the right to be in one...details...details.

[ Parent ]
To those who are hurting
Yes, I know you are hurting right now.  There's no way to avoid it, but the pain of being kicked in the gut will ease eventually.  It's like overhearing someone you thought was a friend trash you to others.  But at least now we know - the evil has crystallized and the enemy has shown its true face.  It can now be fought.

Juxtaposition
I found this article sadly ironic:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/200...

When juxtaposed against this photo of Yes on 8 bigots positively REJOINCING:

http://www.latimes.com/media/p...

Bullies, all right.

OH hell no
Civil rights was never won by 'convincing' the majority. Most had to be ligated on some injustice. This is injustice and mark my words, change will be sooner than 'years'. We have what the other side don't have--Us The Youth generation, the genY's and we're smarter and far more capable than any generation before us! We overwhelming voted No and we're pissed that is passed! Lots of my straight friends are pissed! We will win this in 2010 or sooner! We can not condone in OUR lifetime we experienced and bore witness to civil rights denied! This is only the beginning and the other side use of children will backfire. Us, children, don't like to be used as propaganda!

There are many forms of protest and they should *ALL* be used
I've cross posted this on a couple of the Prop 8 posts because I think it is important to fight the Yes on 8 folks in the legal arena now.  I apologize for seeming to spam!

Hit the LDS Church where it hurts, in their wallet.  File a complaint with the IRS asking them to revoke the LDS Church's tax exempt status.  Check out the site below, print up the forms and mail them to the IRS.

http://lds501c3.wordpress.com/

Why stop there?
File a complaint of about the over 200 churches which endorsed Prop 8 listed on the ProtectMarriage site.

HAH! Went there to get the link and the f***kers have already taken that page down...Endorsement page only lists the winning percentage.  Anyone know how to find that page in the archives or whatever....

Hit all these little buggers...Cavalary Church congregations what one of the main ones.  But by the end there were 204 church listed.  I counted.

[ Parent ]
there was nothing illegal with those churches supporting H8.
501(c)3 churches are free to express opinions on issues as long as they don't dedicate most of their funds to the cause.  remember, MLK, Jr preached on a certain issue from the pulpit.  the issue is different here, but the legality is not.

in my view, the best way to deal with those churches is for people who know members to start having conversations with them about their church's disgusting support of H8.  and not just one conversation.  keep it up.  if you know someone who attends one fo those churches, dont' think one conversation will do it.  start talking now with minds changed by 2012 in mind.  if you don't know anyone in your local hater church, introduce yourself.

only possibly
i'm thinking that there was perhaps a real legal question about some churches laundering H8 donations so taht the individual donors couldn't be traced.  to the extent that might have happened, yeah, they need to lose their tax exept status.  but that's a different question than just their statement of support.
