Fred Phelps Plans to Picket Funeral of Obama's Grandmother

The WBC crack pots are going to protest,

  I would love to see this attempted by them.  But I don't think they will show, most of their threats have been hot air lately.

Probably Obama won't..

But I can hope and pray the Secret Service finds them dangerous enough to deliver them a very undigniified ass-kicking.
Only bad thing is that Phelps would try to use it toi gain sympathy, but the cool thing is that if the Phelps Klan members tried to sue, it could drain them.

BYW, when is that family in MD going to attempt to collect at 11.5 mil judgment and attach the bank accounts so the Phelps Klan has to stay home and wank?

They keep spewing their hate because they have the money to do it.  Go for their pocketbooks, property and assets.  Take away their ability to travel around the country screaming their hate.

We should have shipped the Phelpses in to protest against Prop. 8, and got the local CA news broadcasters to publicise them heavily - would have been a sure-fire way to get it rejected!

So this is nothing new for them; it's just that more people have heard of them now than back then. It would be interesting to know how close they were allowed to get back then. I was surprised that they didn't protest Sen. John Chafee's funeral in Rhode Island in 1999, and at the time, I thought maybe the Secret Service had stopped them because Clinton and many senators were there. But who knows?

mky bet is that the family doesn't give notice for several months. Oh, and it's unlikely they will say WHERE they stuck him.
My guess is they'll plant him under cement in their basement.

Too dangerous to announce his death when it happens- there would be caravans of buses bringin people in to  disrupt the funeral ( id be one of them) and then pee, poop and spit on his grave.

In Possession?

I posted this info on a gay forum in the UK, since we've been following the US elections, and got this response (the Phelps Klan are almost as well-known in the British LGBT community as in America):

I think they have an entanglement with some kind of sub-human evil. People who are innocently mad are never harmful in this way. There is something about their obsessiveness that I find energetically abnormal and heavier than the normal range of human functioning. Their indifference to reasoning and the pain of others is one part of this.
Fr John pointed out something that I personally find plausible. Many of them show the typical signs that some would diagnose as 'possession' or 'attachment', depending on what your working vocabulary is. As though there is some common influence bearing on the thinking and behaviour of the whole group. I'm not saying it isn't something they created or attracted, but it's as though they feed and perpetuate it with their behaviour.

The family announced

when Mrs Dunham passed that the services would be "private and at a later date". So at that point, yeah- the media will know where and when the Obamas will be having the services- but that will allow very little free time beforehand for WBC to act.

Secret Service and police presense will take care of these nutters being within a large radius even if they DID manage to get there, I would have to imagine.

And hopefully a FAILED attempt will start to fade Phelps into obscurity?

Fred Phelps and his followers.  He has to be one of the most odious characters in the world today.  As others have expressed, I hope he meets his comeuppance from the Secret Service.

I say let them protest.

It's abominable; they're a detestable group of swine.   But this doesn't strike me as any more objectionable than their protests at the funerals of PWAs or fallen service people or Mister Rogers.  Let them go ahead and protest at this funeral, too.  Quite frankly, if they do, and if what we have all been living with hits Obama in the gut, maybe he'll begin to realize that spouting drivel like "God is in the mix" only serves to empower these lunatics.

...I suspect you have something there. A protest might be just the thing to bring it home to the President-Elect. If he is as thoughtful as depicted, facing such a protest might make him reconsider the religious dog whistles in his speeches.

Noramlly I'd be all for letting them protest to so they can destroy themselves like Gov Palin did for the GOP. Their issue doesn't allow any rational thought. It is like dealing w/ Al Queda. You just have to destroy them because their is no one to tell them when to quit.

My prediction is that Phelps will be stunned when he reaches the Pacific Ocean and discovers that he can't drive to Hawai'i.

But I hope desperately that he comes nevertheless. The evangelicals here in Hawai'i seem to get more powerful with each passing day. Pathetically, our Republican lieutenant governor is one of them (and, oddly, he doesn't get along well with the Republican governor, who is a Jewish closeted lesbian and is, therefore, going to Hell at least twice). Furthermore, the Utah Mormons invaded Hawai'i ten years ago, just as they did in California, and defeated gay marriage here.

But Phelps's hate is most definitely not local style. The criticism of him here would be nearly universal. His presence then would cause the evangelicals here to become defensive and to attempt to distance themselves from him. That would be good fun to witness. And Phelps might even cause a few otherwise susceptible people to wake up to the true nature of evangelicals.

So, Fred, come let us show you some aloha. Please.
