The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

LGBT Civil Rights Orgs' Leadership Give Forecasts For LGBT Civil Rights In The Obama Era

by: Autumn Sandeen

Fri Nov 14, 2008 at 22:30:00 PM EST

Update: I got an update from the writer of the article I quoted below -- Sean Bugg. Time for me to eat some crow:

One thing I need to correct, though: Everyone I interviewed did answer the question on the ability to pass a trans-inclusive ENDA. Because the final formatting of the interview for print was under space constraints, I did not include every answer from every person. However, as I noted at the end of the piece, the full transcripts of the interviews would be posted online.

Right now all of them are posted, with the exception of Patrick Sammon (I'm having some technical problems getting that interview fully transcribed, so my apologies), with links on the Metro Weekly home page (www.metroweekly.com).

I just want to make sure that if they get criticized it's for something they actually did (or didn't) say!

Well, ummm...Yeah. I guessed, and I guessed wrong. My apologies folk, especially to the E.D.'s of the four orgs in question.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got an DC's Metro Weekly come a Q&A with a number of LGBT Civil Rights organizations' Executive Directors. Some of the questions from MW were:
- From your perspective, what is the most immediate effect of the presidential election on the GLBT community?
- Since the 1990s, a small number of GLBT issues have consistently emerged at the federal legislative level: ''Don't Ask, Don't Tell'', ENDA, partner immigration, hate crimes and marriage equality. With a Democratic Congress and president, which of those issues do you believe should be prioritized?
- How do you believe the landscape will change for GLBT federal workers under the new administration? Will Obama's pledge to extend domestic-partner benefits to federal workers come through?
And, the one I'm really interested in:
- Will Congress be able to pass a trans-inclusive ENDA?
Not a surprise in one sense...only 3 of the 7 executive directors that answered any of the questions for this survey were quoted answering that particular ENDA question at all -- and 1 of those 3 quoted as answering that question was Mara Keisling of the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).
I'll hazard a guess as to why only 3 of 7 were quoted: My guess would be that the 4 of the 7 orgs that didn't answer that question either on their survey because they either didn't want to be on record on this subject, or didn't have very positive thoughts on the subject.
Of course, 1 of the 7 organizations whose executive director's answered questions for MW but didn't have an answer for the ENDA question was the soon to be the soon ex-executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, Patrick  Sammon. So, there's no surprise that there's no trans-positive statement coming from him -- I don't recall ever seeing a trans-positive statement from his organization.
Call me a today's pessimist on a fully inclusive ENDA for the 111th Congress. I hope it's just my angst over the No On Prop 8 campaign failing to win on election day that's fueling today's pessimism on my part -- hopefully, I'll be more optimistic on ENDA during 2009/2010's Congress.
As of right now, marriage stands to do to the Obama Administration what 'gays in the military' did to the Clinton Administration - particularly if all of this anti-Prop 8 anger spins out of control and into a 'repeal DOMA before doing anything else' push.
If sanity prevails, marriage would be played off as 'bad cop' to the 'good cop' of a real ENDA - and the real ENDA would breeze through Congress to be one of the acconplishments of President Obama's first 100 days, while marriage energy would be put to use engineering a 'reverse Prop 8' prop.
>^..^<
I agree - T-inclusive ENDA doesn't seem such a stretch
I would guess that non-inclusive ENDA would be easy to get through at the moment, so with a little work and strategic PR, T-inclusive ("gender identity and expression") ENDA ought to be within the possibilities. Is Diane Schroer working yet at the Library of Congress after winning her case? If not, someone should hire her for lobbying individual Representatives and Senators, or at least get her to do an ad.  I know that there are limitations on lobbying for federal employees, but if her job is part of the Congressional Research Service, it is perfectly fine to go present the CRS info personally.
HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
someone should hire her for lobbying individual Representatives and Senators
An organization hiring an MTF to actually do real, substantive pro-trans work?
Can I still put $20 on McCain-Palin to win?
>^..^<
She's done one
So have most of the major trans lobbyists on the hill, including those under the thumb, err, I mean in the gainful employ -- well, no, wait a sec...
Especially those working for an entity I shan't name because I'd have to rinse and spit afterwards.
The last year, despite our being pissed about being told to do it, we did it.  We educated.  We knocked on doors.
And, on capitol hill, at least, we were still often turned back.
I've been trying to make appointments with every congressperson (including shadegg, whom I find disgusting) here in the Valley. I can get pretty far until I mention trans.
Then everything shuts down.
I'm not nearly as hopeful as Autumn is...
I vote for SANITY...we want a fully inclusive ENDA..
and Hate Crimes Bill and repeal of DADT from this congress...
We probably will have to do Marriage state by state...or certainly wait for a favorable SCOTUS because we are talking MINORITY rights here.
Bill Maher Real Time
Dan Savage was a guest on satelite
Maher used the phrase "JOE FUDGEPACKER"
I was suprised Savage din't just say F*CK YOU! and take off his mic, and walk off.
Savage did say he didn't think Maher knows the current mood of gays.
I ripped Maher all over his overtime blog.
What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?
~Heather Small
Maher has always been a homophobe
(as well as an appalling sexist).  He is not capable of saying anything favorable about LGBT people without adding a nasty little joke about us.
It's the comedy mode du jour.  Maher, Leno, Letterman, Kimmel--they all do it.  Even Craig Ferguson, who is the best of the lot, can't always resist.  But it's usually pretty clear he's laughing with us, not at us.
Maher = No Homophobe
It's easy to see Bill Maher is on our side.  Overly sensitive people tend to get their panties in a wad and throw a tantrum whenever he makes a gay joke in bad taste; but at least he doesn't feign being gay-friendly, like Bill O'Reilly.
I'm gay and I can make hundreds of jokes in bad taste about gay people - just like I can with any other group.
Most gay activists are hellbent on destroying anyone with a sense of humour, and it won't surprise me if they push Bill Maher to "the other side", if they don't learn how to laugh a little.
[ Parent ]
Don't be silly.
I'm sure you can make hundreds of jokes about gay people.  So can I.  So can all of us, I imagine.  One of our community's hallmarks, going back to pre-Stonewall times, has always been our sense of humor about ourselves.  We are quite keenly able to laugh about ourselves, among ourselves.
Maher, Leno and the others are laughing at us from the outside.  Ridiculing a minority that way is quite a different thing.  (Did you also defend Leno over the "gayest look" comment?)  The difference, as I implied in my original post, is between laughing with us and laughing at us.  I've never heard anyone complain about all the gay humor on Monty Python, for instance.  (The "military fairies" drill routine remains one of the funniest things I've ever seen.)
Another big problem is that the jokes they use are so damn predictable.  Always reverting to the same tedious stereotypes.  Always.  Granted, this crap is what passes for humor with a lot of Americans.  But I really wish Maher and the rest would find a way to start telling similarly nasty jokes about straight men.  There is a rich vein of humor there just waiting to be mined.  But it never seems to happen.  Oh wait--they are straight men.  Never mind.
Trying to turn comments like this one into being "hellbent on destroying" somebody are beyond ludicrous.  Can you say "overreacting"?
Comedy
"Trying to turn comments like this one into being "hellbent on destroying" somebody are beyond ludicrous.  Can you say "overreacting"?"
I didn't mean you, per se - my observation is most gay activists are offended by comedy, unless it's toilet humour by that lame 1-trick pony Margaret Cho.
You can say ANY word, and they'll find something homophobic, racist, or anti-women about it.
As for straight men, I can think of just as many tasteless jokes about them as well.  Most of us have at least lived in dorms with them, and those disgusting neanderthals aren't off-limits! LOL
I share your pessimism Autumn.
It just seems like everytime we get our hopes up that our legislative goals will be enacted, they get dashed on the rocks.
If we can't get anything out of the incoming "inclusive" administration and congress this time around, it's never going to happen.
UAFA NOW
It's good to see that immigration is still on the list of federal legislative issues that effects the LGBT Community.
Now lets get er done.
With the Democratic leadership opposed to it
(including quisling Barney Frank) there is next to no chance we'll get an inclusive ENDA.   The only way it could happen is if Obama puts the full weight of his presidency behind it.  Since, as he likes to remind us, "God is in the mix," I wouldn't hold my breath.
