The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

How the well-oiled Mormon machine helped pass Prop 8

by: Pam Spaulding

Sat Nov 15, 2008 at 06:30:00 AM EST

In the end, Protect Marriage estimates, as much as half of the nearly $40 million raised on behalf of the measure was contributed by Mormons.
That was the statement confirming the extent of the financial involvement of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to pass Prop 8. That is mind-blowing.

The extent to which this church felt the need to involve itself, not only with cash from its faithful, but by marshalling an army of Mormon volunteers to participate in phone banking, canvassing and disseminating propaganda and lies to remove a civil right from a group of citizens in California is beyond disturbing.

In the NYT article, "Mormons Tipped Scale in Ban on Gay Marriage," the details emerge about the win-at-all-costs strategy that seems less about pure belief and faith than political activism and bullying.

First approached by the Roman Catholic archbishop of San Francisco a few weeks after the California Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in May, the Mormons were the last major religious group to join the campaign, and the final spice in an unusual stew that included Catholics, evangelical Christians, conservative black and Latino pastors, and myriad smaller ethnic groups with strong religious ties.
And the bottom line is that the full-frontal assault by Yes on 8 came down to the fact that the Mormons were willing to go door to door in a systematic manner-- to make the difference. See how they did it below the fold.
Pam Spaulding :: How the well-oiled Mormon machine helped pass Prop 8
One has to marvel at the precision and drive.
Jeff Flint, another strategist with Protect Marriage, estimated that Mormons made up 80 percent to 90 percent of the early volunteers who walked door-to-door in election precincts.

The canvass work could be exacting and highly detailed. Many Mormon wards in California, not unlike Roman Catholic parishes, were assigned two ZIP codes to cover. Volunteers in one ward, according to training documents written by a Protect Marriage volunteer, obtained by people opposed to Proposition 8 and shown to The New York Times, had tasks ranging from "walkers," assigned to knock on doors; to "sellers," who would work with undecided voters later on; and to "closers," who would get people to the polls on Election Day.

Suggested talking points were equally precise. If initial contact indicated a prospective voter believed God created marriage, the church volunteers were instructed to emphasize that Proposition 8 would restore the definition of marriage God intended.

But if a voter indicated human beings created marriage, Script B would roll instead, emphasizing that Proposition 8 was about marriage, not about attacking gay people, and about restoring into law an earlier ban struck down by the State Supreme Court in May.

"It is not our goal in this campaign to attack the homosexual lifestyle or to convince gays and lesbians that their behavior is wrong - the less we refer to homosexuality, the better," one of the ward training documents said. "We are pro-marriage, not anti-gay."

..."No work will take place at the church, including no meeting there to hand out precinct walking assignments so as to not even give the appearance of politicking at the church," one of the documents said.

The messaging and methods of these defilers of civil rights was spot on. I urge you to read the rest of this article to see the full extent of this holy war on civil rights. The Mormon-bolstered Yes on 8 campaign simply outgamed No on 8.

* In response to a huge anti-8 fundraiser at billionaire Ron Burkle's house in Beverly Hills, an e-blast to 92K went out to save marriage from "cardiac arrest."

* There was a concerted effort not to associate with fringe elements that wanted domestic partnerships rolled back or to protest when same-sex marriages began in June.

* The flat-out lie campaign was prepared specifically to target voters on the fence, with ads claiming marriage equality would result in churches losing tax exempt status, or lawsuits slapped on people for their personal beliefs, and, of course, that positive views of same-sex marriage will be forced upon children.

The justification for this devastating blow to equality is still not seen as discrimination by these people; in fact, Frank Schubert of Protect Marriage is gloating:

For his part, Mr. Schubert said he is neither anti-gay - his sister is a lesbian - nor happy that some same-sex couples' marriages are now in question. But, he said, he has no regrets about his campaign.

"They had a lot going for them," Mr. Schubert said of his opponents. "And they couldn't get it done."

He's right about that -- our community couldn't get it done -- what do we plan to do about it -- besides finger pointing and marches? Don't get me wrong -- these Join the Impact rallies are essential to show our solidarity on the matter of equality to the nation, but that energy and drive then has to be harnessed effectively or we will continue to lose. The factions of hate are now ready to take their well-oiled machine and work it on the rest of the country. Are we prepared to beat the LDS ground game?

Hat tip, Rex.

Response to the Mormon Church
I think it's very important to bring to light these stories of Mormon involvement in the deceptive and dishonest campaign against gay marriage. The church needs to be held accountable for its actions. It's not enough to blame them for our defeat. We need to emphasize that extreme religious groups pose a threat to the ideal of liberty that our forefathers envisioned, and that our constitution was designed to protect minorities against. This truly is a question of religious tyranny.

Stuff I hope happens after today's huge national protest ...
1)  Our side gets familiar with Santa Fe v. Doe:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S...

The Mormon family was upset when their daughter's junior high school teacher passed out fliers for a Baptist revival. When the girl asked a question about the revival, the teacher asked her what her religion was. On learning that the girl was Mormon, she said that Mormonism was a "non-Christian cult."

As loath as they might be to admit it, Mormons have gone to the Supreme Court in order to protect themselves against the majority's religious beliefs.

There are ways to frame our demands in ways that focus attention on the common ground that our side shares with those religious folks who are outside the mainstream.  Our argument should not have been that "your child will never hear about gay marriage in school" ... rather, it should've been that "we're all fighting so that your child, any child, never has to face discrimination in school because of the family she comes from" ...

2)  Our side gets familiar with the BYU sports schedule, knows when and where their away games are happening, and finds people to hold signs at the doors/gates.  Ditto for Mormon Tabernacle Choir performances, any ballroom dancing competitions to which BYU brings its teams, and every other opportunity to engage ambassadors of LDS culture outside Utah.  For example, I think BYU is playing an away game at Pepperdine on the 18th.  Pity if noone were to show up to protest.

3)  Our side continues the boycotts of Mormon-owned and/or Mormon-run businesses in deliberate fashion.  The ownership class in our country is still betting that y'all are gonna yell and scream for a few days and then get lazy about actually holding Prop 8 funders to account.  Get serious and prove them wrong.

Okay....
I share your resentment of LDS' involvement in anti-gay initiatives, and agree that we should call them out on it.  However, how does this advance our rights?  We need to do the hard work to advance our cause, rather than looking like a petty fringe group.

A few months ago ...
... the Mormons were viewed by many as a "petty fringe group" ...

Q:  At what point did they become a "well-oiled machine" ??

A:  The same day we got our asses handed to us on a plate by that same "petty fringe group."

The opposition is not some amorphous entity ... it's a bunch of folks with addresses, careers and aspirations of their own ... don't allow them to achieve the latter by stepping on you and you've won half the battle.

Yes, it does
It lets the haters know they will be held accountable for their hate. It lets them know they can't disenfranchise an entire class of people and skip off happily without paying any cost. It makes them a little more reluctant to openly advertise their hate in the future, and that definitely advances our cause.

Cause any fool knows, a dog needs a home; a shelter from pigs on the wing

These are all good points.
However, most voters aren't mormon (or otherwise devoutly religious and socially conservative), and yet we still keep losing on virtually every level.  Right-wing zealots are driving the agenda.  How do we convince non-zealots that:
1) Civil rights should not be put to a vote
2) LGBT people deserve civil rights

[ Parent ]
How to convince non-zealots?
Identify the zealots.  Drag 'em out into the daylight.  Talk about their gay kids and question their humanity as parents and their suitability as guardians of a compassionate social order.  All the stuff that's only just started happening now that we've been handed a major defeat.

We waited too long this time around in CA before we got around to connecting the dots.

Their lies beat our "nice" ... lesson learned.

One effective way of convincing them
would be to point out, loudly and often, what bigoted hatemongers our opponents are.  And that is exactly what you are arguing against.  What don't you get?

Ask any trial lawyer.  Demonize your opponent and you increase your chances of winning.  So far we have let the zealots to the demonizing.  It's time for that to change.

I am not interested in picking up crumbs of compassion thrown from the table of someone who considers himself my master. I want the full menu of rights.  -Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Yep
If you go to Affirmation.org you'll learn more about the Gay and Lesbian Mormons and our stories in connection with prop 8 and other anti-gay issues. We have been among the most painfully harmed by this.

[ Parent ]
Well, now we have a blueprint...
On how to overturn these bans.  Let's take a page out of their own book.

Re: Boycotting Utah
The boycott sounds like a great Idea.  People need to follow through on this very aggressively.  This could work especially since we are in an economic disaster like we are now.

[ Parent ]
The way to CURB the LDS elders...is DON'T
Boycott Utah tourism and products....and let Utah residents CURB the LDS elders....IN HOUSE.

Salt Lake City will ALWAYS be the heart of the LDS church, it's their Vatican, Mecca, and Wailing Wall rolled into ONE.
No matter how Mormonism spreads though Idaho and Vegas, and Germany, and other Nations, the highest percentage of LDS members who vote and contribute to the HATE they spew, in inside Utah.
If they can't attack US from Utah, they can't ATTACK us ever again.

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?
