The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Nigerian professor: gay relationships create mental retardation

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu Feb 22, 2007 at 14:00:00 PM EST

I'm sorry, this is deranged. As the Nigerian goverment debates a bill to demonize gays, Friday Okonofua is the kind of "expert" showing up at public hearings. (The Tide Online [Nigeria]):
About four per cent of Nigerians are involved in same sex relationship, Special Adviser to the President, Prof Friday Okonofua, has said.

Okonofa disclosed this at a public hearing on a bill to prohibit same sex marriage and relationship, organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs, in Abuja.

...Such relationship, he said, had exposed those engaged in it to high risk of contacting sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV/AIDS and cancer.

The same sex relationships, he said, caused mental retardation, depression and high tendency to commit suicide.

With this sort of logic at play, Matt at Political Spaghetti points out, there is almost zero chance of any rational discussion occurring in Nigeria about homosexuality and civil rights at this stage in the game over this bill.
The level of misunderstanding of homosexuality is so extensive in Nigeria that most lack even the basic tools to debate the subject intelligently. It's quite one thing to have firm religious convictions against homosexual practice (I have no problem with their beliefs), but it's quite another to play fast and loose with the facts when the speech, assembly, press, free expression of religion rights of "4%" of Nigeria's population are on the line. (For all you islamophobes out there who like to point to Shar'iya when justifying Akinola's support of this bill -- notice NO MENTION OF ISLAM in The Tide's coverage.)
Hat tip, Shakes.

Indeed!
Of course it causes mental retardation: look at what it's done to Professor Friday Okonofua.

"In order to maintain an untenable position, you have to be actively ignorant."  The Colbert Report

I was thinking the same thing.
1. No offense to our mentally-disabled friends whom Friday Okounola is comparing to the gay community.  Both groups are being intimidated by the ignorami who are trying to control this planet.  I think that the gay culture are turning most of the assholes in Nigeria into retards who cannot cope with reality.

2. Even though the penalty is severe in the Sharia states, there is no mention of Muslims in this topic (despite what Debbie Schlussel says).

How long...
...before Petey, Bam-Bam and Fogus start quoting this guy as a source of their "facts.?"

Honestly
I don't see much difference between his unglossed (invalid) opinion verses the opinions presented by the US "religious" right.

Some guy tells the Nigerian government that we're "retarded" in public hearings.

Exodus, Focus on the Family, FRC, etc. send their "experts" to testify that we don't deserve rights because we can be "fixed".

Same song, different singers.

I realize my evidence is anecdotal
but it seems you can make a better case for heterosexuality causing mental retardation. Just read any of the Freeper blogs or listen to their ignorant mouthpieces.

mental retardation????
Okay, I don't get it.  How?  Depression and suicide I can see because we're a hated minority.  Being hated makes me want to skip with joy, uh huh.  But...mental retardation?  Okay, okay, maybe right after orgasm I act a bit like that, but it doesn't seem to stick more than a few minutes.  I just don't get it.

Let's go Googling! and the answer is....
This Prof. Friday Okonufoa is a prof. of obstetrics and gynecology at Univ. Benin , Benin City, Nigeria (in the south). He's no dummy, and is doing useful work re: maternal mortality, FGM aftermath care (and prevention), etc. Here are a few of his latest pubs: http://lib.bioinfo.p...

That makes this statement about gays all the more shocking, since he is not isolated from the outside world, has occasional collaborations (provides patient samples) with multi-country investigations, etc. He publishes in English (not surprisingly) and undoubtedly reads the major general medical journals like Lancet and New England Journal as well as the specialty ob/gyn journals. He has access to internet content and access to journals through university or a multiversity consortium, no doubt. He is pulling his opinions from his anus here - purely what he hears at church or from his friends, colleagues, and relatives.

makes me wonder
about the quality of the results he presents in his own research papers.

Someone...
...needs to hand this *ssh*t to the professional international medical societies so that they can publicly censure him. This is the Internet, after all. Look at how effectively Besen goes after the claims of Dobson, et al. LGBT medical associations should have their colleagues put out something official on this.

As if...
the Nigerian national licensure board is going to censure a "Special Advisor to the President" for an opinion most of the board holds as well!

yes, but...
He needs to be held accountable internationally, so that it is clearly on the record that his brand of pulling statistics out of his anus is condemned. This will put a chill on christianist or other religious hate groups being able to cite him as a reputable source.

retarded relationships
I'm unsure as to whether I was retarded before I went into my last relationship or if that relationship made me retarded.  But judging from some of my freind's more successful relationships, not all gay relationships make you retarded, just my last one.

Muslims, Christians, Atheists
Guess who speaks out for us, even in Nigeria.

"Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain" -- Iowa state motto

Boycott Where It Hurts
Perhaps one small thing we can do to help the Nigerian situation is to boycott Shell. If there's one thing the political and religious leaders of Nigeria love more than bigotry, it's money. The only money coming into Nigeria is for oil, and Shell is the biggest player.

After the execution of environmentalist Ken Saro-Wiwa years ago and all the battles that have gone on with ethnic minorities in the Niger delta, we should all have been boycotting Shell anyway. But this just gives us more reason.

I found this page from a group called Essential Action about boycotting Shell. Apparently, they have abandoned this fight, though, and, in any case, mention nothing about gay rights on their issues page.

If major gay groups internationally publicized a boycott of Shell because of the Nigerian law about to be passed, then it would be noticed. How many gay groups do you think care enough?

Boycott Where It Hurts
My first readtion to Jim's suggestion was that it might be better to take a different approach rather than a boycott.

But looking at the Shell website ( www.shell.com ), it appears that they have little "diversity" in the company world-wide.  A search on "sexuality" brought NO results and a search on "gay" brought up a link to a page with a handful of paragraphs on SEA Shell in the USA.

So perhaps a boycott of Shell might be the only way.  With the lifting of the boycott when Shell publicly announces it is against this crazy law that Nigeria is about to introduce and that the company is making representations to the Nigerian Government.
