The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Huckabee: Gay rights movement hasn't had enough skulls cracked to earn civil rights

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu Nov 20, 2008 at 00:00:00 AM EST

It's nice to see rapist/murderer-releasing ex-governor, Baptist minister-without-a-theology-degree and failed GOP prez candidate Mike Huckabee engaging in the Oppression Olympics when it comes to doling out civil rights. In this appearance on The View, the former Arkansas chief executive thinks homos should get a taste of the Bull Connor violence in order to rise to the level of respect to beg to receive the same rights as other Americans. (h/t JMG):

HUCKABEE: It's a different set of rights. People who are homosexuals should have every right in terms of their civil rights, to be employed, to do anything they want. But that's not really the issue. I know you talked about it and I think you got into it a little bit early on. But when we're talking about a redefinition of an institution, that's different than individual civil rights.

BEHAR: Well, segregation was an institution, too, in a way. It was right there on the books.

HUCKABEE: But here is the difference. Bull Connor was hosing people down in the streets of Alabama. John Lewis got his skull cracked on the Selma bridge.

Pam Spaulding :: Huckabee: Gay rights movement hasn't had enough skulls cracked to earn civil rights
In an outlandish statement on Bill "Gamblin' Man" Bennett's talk show, Huckabee claimed that Prop 8 didn't ban or prohibit marriage equality. WTF!? The ballot said "eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry" -- what part of that did he not understand?
HUCKABEE: The very people who voted for Barack Obama in California...also voted to sustain traditional marriage. I refuse to use the term, "ban same-sex marriage." That's not what those efforts did. They affirmed what is. They did not prohibit something. They simply affirmed something that which has and forever has existed.
Un-F'in=believable. As Think Progress said:
Huckabee, who seems to see himself as a bit of an expert on LGBT rights, ought to do a little research before issuing his next bigoted proclamation. In approving Prop. 8, California - by definition - "banned same-sex marriage." Prior to November 4, same-sex couples in California could marry. Afterward, they were banned from doing so.

Apparently...
we have done a terrible job of communicating the world which we as LGBT people live in to those who don't. I live in SAN FRANCISCO, and unless I'm in the Castro, I often look around or hesitate to hold my girlfriend's hand, not becaues I'm afraid someone will say something mean to me, or even that I'll lose my job, but because I'm afraid someone will KICK MY FREAKING HEAD IN.

As to that being personal rather than institutional violence, an apologia getting WAY too much play over on Kos right now, it seems to me that every institution works to alienate, isolate, and harm us... our families often cast us out, our schools prohibit our clubs and don't let us love who we love, and frequently fail to protect us from violence while we're there, few states have laws prohibiting us from being fired just for being queer... is there some shortage of institutional violence?

And back in the 60s, the time Huckabee was discussing, LGBT people were routinely beaten, arrested, raided, blackmailed, and even killed by the police. The fact that he doesn't know that is bad enough, but for all the so-called progressives who don't know it? I don't know what to say, because either we've stopped telling our stories, or they're not listening.

They aren't listening . . .
Ever since the beginning of this alleged same-sex marriage "debate," it has been predominantly the HETEROSEXUAL debate over same-sex marriage.

They don't even have a clue that we notice how THEIR uninformed "opinions" about OUR lives can get airplay all over the tube and the radio, but OUR voices don't exist. They don't even understand that part of our outrage is their smug, arrogant claim to have a "deeply-held, passionate opinion" about lives they no nothing about, but we are all supposed to assign them credibility because they are heterosexuals projecting fantasies about imagined sexual and personal relationships they've created in their minds or in their wingnut authoritarian fear "churches."

It doesn't surprise me that people like Huckabee don't know anything about our history - he's just repeating the same talking points issued by the Right ever since the demonstrations last weekend. It's all arrogant pretense and projecting from the oppressor - and once again we have very few leaders articulate enough to put that sh*t down.

But the ladies on "The View" aren't much better. They let Huckleberry Hound ramble on about "redefining marriage," when his own sorry ass shoved through a redefinition in Arkansas, creating a two-tier "marriage" system for straight people while eliminating any hope for a same-sex couple to be recognized as anything more than a conservative's most reassuring stereotype. As with most heterosexual "discussions" about OUR lives, the ladies on "The View" didn't know enough about us to put Huckabee's memorized wingnut talking points to bed.

A little gesture
I saw a couple of younger guys holding hands walking downtown a couple days ago.  One looked scared to death so I made a point to smile and say hi.  They both broke into wide grins and said hi back.  We all need to make a point of supporting each other as well.

[ Parent ]
thanks!
Sammy, that's great to hear, and I second your sentiment.

The more we all show off our relationships without fear, the stronger it's going to be.  And I guess we'll need to be prepared to crack a skull or two* to defend ourselves.

[ Parent ]
Maybe we should invite him to a Transgender Day Of Remembrance service
But I doubt he would go. After all, only 30 people that were murdered.

Huck-a-berry Hound
Uh-huh. And Matthew Shepard got pistol-whipped and strung up on a barb-wire fence to die. Does His Governorship want to set up a pair of Atrocity Lists so we can compete with one another for the coveted title of Most Truly Oppressed Group In The World?

Well, don't forget - the Right tried to rewrite that story, too. . .
and then broadcast it on 20/20. . .

Note to Huck:
You're entitled to your own opinion.

You are not, however, entitled to your own facts.

Christian bashing?
And the best example he can find is some old lady losing her cross after provocatively walking into a No on 8 protest?

Actually, don't show up if you plan
on telling the people protesting that you are sinners, god hates faggs or you are trying to save us.

Big word of advice, just stay home, or do what ever else it is.  Most LGBT people that have faith go to an accepting church.  We have no plans on attending yours if your plan is to heel us.

We had a guy on our path we marched, telling everyone we were going to hell. I asled him if that was Crawford Texas?  Moose in the Headlights look is all I got.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

[ Parent ]
I don't know if that was intentional or a typo...
Most LGBT people that have faith go to an accepting church.  We have no plans on attending yours if your plan is to heel us.

...but the mental image of Huckaberry trying to bring the LGBT community to heel as if were were a dog is so accurate of his mind-set.

Gwen Amber Rose Araujo, and the nameless millions

The day will come, my brothers, my sisters, when we will muster voice to articulate what our experience has been ... these last few millenia. Because truthfully we have not had a voice for thousands of years. We grew vocal cords in the recent span of living memory.

LGBT not persecuted? Even a second grader knows not to talk about same-sex attraction. Gay people cannot even walk down the street hand in hand publicly in most capitals of this world. This is what being queer means.

But that is not what it has to mean in the future. Eyes on the prize, brave souls. We've been sheltering our hearts in the dark for so long now, a few more black words can't touch us. Their contrast just show how bright our light is becoming.

The day hasn't come, it's HERE
Be the change you seek in the world.  The simple hand on your boyfriend's/girlfriend's shoulder, in the supermarket checkout line where people can see, makes all the difference in the world.

So mad I could explode
That's why I could only watch this once - on TV. The commentator on CNN last night ripped Huckabee on this as well.

I really feel that what's happening here is Huck is projecting WHAT HE'D LIKE TO SEE happen.

'Well, gee they're not getting their heads cracked. . . not that I'm fantasizing here or anything. . .'

I try so hard not to hate people like him because hate is so corrosive, but it gets harder with every comment like this.

My ex-governor
what a tard-head.

My ex-governor, part 2
A couple years after I moved to AR, a very popular State treasurer ran against Gov. Huckabee.

Her most popular bumper sticker was "Get the Huck out!"

For The Education of Mike Huckabee
Not enough of us have been beaten?
Watch this please, Mike:

I tell you Chica that no greater abomination exists than women denying their spirit of sisterhood and instead becoming the oppressor. -Rebeca, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

When did...
Privileged white men go through their "torture" to get their civil rights.  I think we need some retroactivity here because obviously they have missed out on all the fun!

As a white man myself, I hope I can get an exemption cause I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and was considered "trail'r trash".

Being Black wasn't a status crime.
bars were raided because ' homosexuals" would meet there- up until Stonewall in NY and probably many places afterwards. LGBT's were arrested-  it was a crime to be gay or lesbian or non-gender conforming.  That not good enough for the Hucktard?

This is really a new low
Not that I expect much from F*ckabee...but the fact that his ignorant, insane, rewriting of queer history and experience get ANY airtime (even on the View, which allows Elisabeth Hasselbeck to blab her drivel day in and day out) makes my blood boil.

The list of our GLBT brothers and sisters--and most especially our transgendered family members, who are being remembered today--who have been beaten, tortured, raped, and murdered over just the past 10 years is astounding. Perhaps the mainstream press (or whatever right-wing rags F*uckabee and his ilk read) hasn't paid attention to a lot of these atrocities, but there are three murders that even these boneheads can't claim never to have heard about:

1. Matthew Shepard
2. Brandon Teena
3. Lawrence King

How many more of our young people--after all, Larry King was only in NINTH GRADE!--have to die before it's a moral failure for EVERYONE?

I guess Huck never heard of Stonewall
Or he'd know something of the history of violence against Queers and how we have stood up to it.  Even without half of his former corpulence, he is still on the losing side of both history and the unending struggle for equity and liberation.

Wev
So we add one more instance to the Great Book Of "Christian" Lies About People They Don't Like. My running total is somewhere in the 5,300 series.

Huckabee, Sarah Palin, and that vapid Hasselbeck skank need to go crawl back under the rock from whence they came and never be heard from again. I'm sure Ann Coulter has some extra space under hers since all her fanboys have moved on.

God save ornery old queens! - kevinchi

Here is an idea
for someone with a creative bent.  Make a film doing a retelling of Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" with Huckabee as Scrooge.  We could have a ghost of queers past showing just how many times we've "had our skulls cracked", a ghost of queers present showing how we are still marginalized by society and how hurtful prop. 8 has been to the 18,000 couples in California who are now in relationship legal limbo, and a ghost of queers future showing people exactly what the world would be like without us.  I would do it but I severely lack creative skill, video equipment, nor do I know any actors/actresses.

Si Hoc Legere Scis Nimium Eruditionis Habes

One thing that always gets lost in these discussions
is that Christians are a protected class.  Discrimination against them is illegal.  Hate crimes against them are punished as such.  So, why didn't somebody raise this and ask the Huckster where is the violence that justifies Christians being protected?  Aside from some hoary old Cecil B. DeMille crap about lions in the Colosseum--two thousand years ago!--I can't imagine he could have come up with any.

I am not interested in picking up crumbs of compassion thrown from the table of someone who considers himself my master. I want the full menu of rights.  -Archbishop Desmond Tutu

How much violence will it take?
http://www.mikehuckabee.com/in...

Email the man.  Or his staff, wev.  Ask him exactly how much violence he was forced to endure in order to marry Janet.  Ask him if he's willing to codify exactly how many skull fractures you have to endure in order to marry the person you love.

The View
They are trying to support our community. We need to send Whoopie and Joy some talking points. Help them, help us.

Come, come, my conservative friend, wipe the dew off your spectacles, and see that the world is moving."

Total number of transgender individuals alone killed in the last year: 30

I think that we have already poured far too much blood out to the nightmarish violence inspired by the hate speech of ministers such as yourself, Governor. How many more deaths would have to take place before we earn out citizenship?

Oppression Olympics
Pam, I just wanted to say your style is hilarious and this is the best. blog. ever.
Kate

Yes we can!

Don't suppose Arkansas has hate crime laws?
Nah, didn't think so.

Huckabee...
...is simply an ardent enemy of our constitutional democracy.  Unlike Jesus, Huckabee's views do not reflect anything close to unconditional love for humankind.  He does not hesitate to spew the hate stored in his heart and from a philosophical perspective, he is no different than the religious fanatics who attacked our country back in 2001.
We need to be tirelessly vigilant about preserving civil rights for every American and protect our democracy from such whack-job theocrats like Huckabee.  This is without a doubt an essential component for realizing American progress in the new millenia and becoming a leader around the globe for advancing human rights.

Peace.
