Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Quote of the day - Sharpton on faith-based homophobes

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue Jan 13, 2009 at 14:00:00 PM EST

OMG. I usually don't agree with him on a host of issues, but what an epic serving of truth LGBT ally Al Sharpton placed on the table at the Human Rights Ecumenical Service held at Atlanta's Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he gave a keynote that smacked down the homobigoted, hypocritical slice of the religious community. It was no coincidence that the event was held to welcome the Alliance of Affirming Faith-Based Organizations.

Can you feel the burn?

"I am tired," he went on, "of seeing ministers who will preach homophobia by day, and then after they're preaching, when the lights are off they go cruising for trade...We know you're not preaching the Bible, because if you were preaching the Bible we would have heard from you. We would have heard from you when people were starving in California--when they deregulated the economy and crashed Wall Street you had nothing to say. When [accused Ponzi scammer] Madoff made off with the money, you had nothing to say. When Bush took us to war chasing weapons of mass destruction that weren't there you had nothing to say.

"But all of a sudden, when Proposition 8 came out, you had so much to say, but since you stepped in the rain, we gonna step in the rain with you."

And this...
"There is something immoral and sick about using all of that power to not end brutality and poverty, but to break into people's bedrooms and claim that God sent you. It amazes me when I looked at California and saw churches that had nothing to say about police brutality, nothing to say when a young black boy was shot while he was wearing police handcuffs, nothing to say when they overturned affirmative action, nothing to say when people were being [relegated] into poverty, yet they were organizing and mobilizing to stop consenting adults from choosing their life partners."

my thought exactly!
I have new-found appreciation for Al Sharpton. :)

If you want allies, you have to be an ally.

[ Parent ]
all I can say is:
ditto. . .Wow

[ Parent ]
Way to go Al...
especially pointing out the hypocrisy of what's said in the day behind the pulpit but what can and does happen and night.

Wow! I'm not stunned that Al said something, I am stunned that he said it this forcefully and called out the hypocrisy.

God bless Al Sharpton
I hope his supportive words get some national press. I heard Rev. Sharpton speak at a forum for 2004 Democratic candidates hosted by the Human Rights Campaign. I had low expectations. But when the man starting talking and kept talking, I found myself agreeing with him 100%. I became a fan of Sharpton that day.

Sharpton has been saying things like this for years.
He's great on equality.

That's what I call OUTREACH
Way to go, Al.

Same-Sex Marriage is good for the economy.

I especially love the line about ministers...
"cruising for trade"

On a semi-serious note, I have wondered in some not so far flung moments if some of these ministers, choir directors, and other church leaders should be outed.

I get a little squeamish about that since I think people are entitled to privacy, if that's what they desire. However, if you are cruising for trade 6 (or even 7) nights a week, maybe outing is EXACTLY what you deserve.

If you are
preaching BIGOTRY on Sunday, that is

[ Parent ]
Frank's Law
would lead to a rather immense scandal if applied to homophobic preachers generally.  I'd be all for it.

[ Parent ]
Now THIS.
THIS is how it's DONE.

REPLACE RICK WARREN WITH AL SHARPTON. NOW.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

Amen, Rev. Sharpton.
Thank you for speaking the truth.

Elizabeth, What did you think of the Uncle Remus vernacular?

we gonna step in the rain with you
."

Are you and Fritz offended by this characterization of Sharpton's speech patterns?

[ Parent ]
You are a racist troll
That is now confirmed.

Pam, I'd like to see this person put on notice.

Calling Al Sharpton's words "Uncle Remus" vernacular is beyond the pale.

Being this hostile and unreasonable is unforgivable. Only the most vile ignorant racist pig would write something like this.

For you reasonable, non-racist readers who may be wondering. I wrote in part yesterday about the minstrel show vernacular that is used in Disney's Song of the South.

Do we need to explain to this moron that the language used in minstrel shows is an invention designed to ridicule African-Americans? Or, can we simply ban this monster from this forum?

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

- Abraham Lincoln.

[ Parent ]
Screw notice
Troglodytes like this mufflefuck just need to have their profiles erased.

Hey, Lil Markie, go back to RedState or Free Republic, or wherever you loser Rethugs are crying into your stale beer these days.

God save ornery old queens! - kevinchi

[ Parent ]
LOL. What a hypocrite.
An itty-bitty word from a song very people know is from a movie which even fewer people consider racist...is the worst offense somebody can make........

But a written account of an Uncle Remus speech pattern uttered by is perfectly fine, but the person who points out the hypocrisy is the worst racist.

You hypocrites with your selective outrage have been EXPOSED!

[ Parent ]
there's no point...
...in engaging with you on this, MarkiePost.

You are clearly unable to see the difference between an African-American man choosing to speak in a certain way to make a connection with his audience, and a movie/stories written by white people which purposely portrayed blacks as stupid and happy with being oppressed. And that is sad.

Comparing Rev. Sharpton's speech to "Uncle Remus vernacular" is shameful and racist. I'm not sure what your intentions are around race issues on this blog, but this is not a productive conversation.

And no one ever appreciates being called a hypocrite. Especially when I see nothing hypocritical in any of the responses supporting Fritz.

[ Parent ]
How bout street slang MP?
Could you even understand it. Nothing to do with Uncle Remus babe it is all 2009 American STREET talkin.

It's the Hammer of JUSTICE,
It's the Bell of FREEDOM,
It's the Song about LOVE between,
my Brothers and my Sisters
...All over this Land.

[ Parent ]
And of course, once again, you intentionally mischaracterize.
I wasn't commenting on Sharpton's speech patterns.  I was  commenting on the written version of the speech pattern.  In other words, somebody had to transcribe his words to paper, injecting their interpretation.  That's where the possible racism comes in.  Or is it just the writer writing what he or she hears?

It's no different than a writer putting down  "Yessim. Eyez be right wif' you" for Uncle Remus.  It's either racist of both writers or racist of neither.  But YOU don't get to pick and choose.

[ Parent ]
I hope the rational sane people here will forgive me
but this is a continuation from yesterday's thread where this person, "Fritz" spotted a "racist".

If you'll excuse me, this is a very sore point.  Race police like this strike me the same way the fundamententalist Christian police do.  They appoint themselves official arbiters of who the offenders are and who gets let off; and it almost never is related to the would-be offense; rather it's WHO made the comment.  And, of course, they alone have the wisdom and experience to get inside someone's head and inform the world what that person was truly thinking.

I guess those of us who are gay or bi have a sixth sense for spotting this kind of bigoted bullshit;  conclusions made without any knowledge or interest in knowing where people are coming from.  This is what we in the LGBT are supposed to be fighting against.

So, I'll TRY to tone it down.

[ Parent ]
I won't be silenced
You can call me "race police" and rant and rave on your platform of false victimization all you want.

You are engaging is a campaign to silence a reasonable voice against racism. That is obvious to most people here.

I don't know what you motives are. I don't care. I've been dealing with people like you for over 30 years.

Whether it is someone who likes Shirley Q. Liquor or racist jokes on TV or Song of the South, it is always the same story.

Someone feels the need to tell me that it isn't my place to speak up. He (and it is almost always a white man) will accuse me of calling people racist for pointing out the racist nature of such things.

You wrote:

They appoint themselves official arbiters of who the offenders are and who gets let off;

Official? How does voicing my personal opinion on a subject make me "official"?

I have as much freedom to voice my opinion as anyone else in this society. You've devoted dozens of paragraphs to shout me down and discredit me. Why?

If you think you have an opinion to share, write your own diary and perhaps it will get posted on the front page here at the Blend.

But to continually harrass me and others on this blog in an attempt to suppress and discredit our opinions shows a lack of character.

This is the kind of tactics used by Bush and the neo-cons. If you don't like what someone has to say, attack them personally.

I will not be your Joe Wilson.

When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will.

- Abraham Lincoln.

[ Parent ]
"Attack them personally"
You mean like when you called me a "racist"?  I see you apply the same rationale when handing out damning labels to everyone.  If you disagree with anything they've said, then, by God they're racist.

Then I love how you say I'm trying to silence you while you scream to Pam to ban me from the forum.  I've never challenged your right to speak, but I will call you out when you prejudge without evidence.

It is YOU who demands that dissenting ideas be squelched.

[ Parent ]
This.
Um, thank you.

And more importantly, after giving said homophobic sermon, you have the audacity to turn to the choir director (and I don't even need to go further on that one) to lead the chorus in worship or whatever...

That's effed up! Srsly.

Sharpton - more reasonable than he's portrayed by the media
I just went back and watched my set of DVDs chronicling "The Daily Show" and its coverage of the 2004 campaign.  Al Sharpton popped up in several places, and I found myself amazed at how good, reasonable, and progressive his arguments were.

It occurred to me, 'Wow, this guy really isn't such a buffoon when he's actually allowed to speak, without Bill O'Reilly shouting him down, or the anchor snidely pooh-poohing everything he says immediately afterwards."

Ah, our media.  You just gotta love 'em.  Who else would guard our public discourse, and tell us who we should and shouldn't take seriously?

I think of Sharpton kind of like...
...Spike from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

He's done a lot of bad things, and even done some good things for bad reasons, but every here and there he does the best possible thing, under the best possible circumstances and I can't help but love him for it.

I'm only a click away.

Call 'em out
Al Sharpton is so right to call these ministers out on their bullsh*t. He's a great ally.

amen, brother!
while i have been wary of Sharpton for a long time,  i was very impressed with him during the 2004 campaign primaries. he lays bare the truth on many things.
i still have disagreements with him, but they are rare these days.
he is a champion of equality and the poor.

Hey life isn't always about agreeing
But it is always about treating each other with respect and doing what is right.
On this I happily agree with Rev. Sharpton.

"They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself." - Andy Warhol

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction" - Blaise Pascal

Right on.
Sharpton NAILED IT.

I am still grinning from ear to ear just thinking about it.

This?
Made of so much win.

Al Sharpton is getting a thank-you card from my family.

God save ornery old queens! - kevinchi

Wish that I had a brother like Rev. Al Sharpton.......
but unfortunately, my sister attends Saddleback.  Thanks, Rev. Al, once again you speak the truth as a TRUE christian.

Al Sharpton
has been consistent on this from the start, way before it was in the national discussion. He's also said he would perform same sex weddings. He is my hero on this particular issue.

So very powerful
Reverend Sharpton, from a community that all too often feels that Jesus has been made into the enemy, thank you for showing us that we are not alone out here.

I tell you Chica that no greater abomination exists than women denying their spirit of sisterhood and instead becoming the oppressor. -Rebeca, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Oh Al, I love you more than my luggage. Go AL GO!

vanhattan

Preference
I would way more prefer Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson for president than Bill Clinton or Barack Obama.

I voted for Jesse twice, the latter two never.

thanks Al
thanks for tellin' it like it is, Al.

Rev. Sharpton does have his moments
There are a few things that I don't agree with Reverend Sharpton on, but I will tell you this - the man is driven and passionate.  He is one of those men who is truly not afraid to raise his voice to injustice.

Like we used to say on Sundays at church: "way to go 'Rev' you tell 'em"

Charley sez ---- Bat sh*t crazies amuse me!
