The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

HBO, Presidential Inaugural Committee still pointing fingers over invisible Robinson invocation

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Jan 19, 2009 at 15:33:54 PM EST

UPDATE: Today's NPR interview with Gene Robinson, "What Happened With Gay Bishop's Invocation?" is up now.

Via Leah McElrath Renna @ HuffPost:

Coming on the heels of the controversy caused by selection of Rick Warren to deliver the Invocation at the Inauguration, the omission of the prayer delivered by openly-gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson from the broadcast of the pre-Inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial is creating a controversy of its own.

In a conversation with this writer, Jeff Cusson, Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs for HBO, confirmed that HBO was not involved in the decision to move Bishop Robinson's remarks to a time prior to the beginning of the actual broadcast:

"HBO had no involvement in the scheduling of those who appeared as part of the televised event. You'll have to talk to PIC about all of the scheduling decisions. We had a set broadcast time and went forth accordingly."
I just received a statement from the Obama camp/Presidential Inaugural Committee:
"We had always intended and planned for Rt. Rev. Robinson's invocation to be included in the televised portion of yesterday's program.  We regret the error in executing this plan - but are gratified that hundreds of thousands of people who gathered on the mall heard his eloquent prayer for our nation that was a fitting start to our event," said PIC communications director Josh Earnest.
Take that for what it's worth. At least both parties know this was a f*ck up worthy of the fallout.

Bishop Robinson was on NPR's Talk of the Nation today. The audio, according to the web site, will be up around 6PM ET.

UPDATE from Leah:

There are reports that HBO will include the prayer when they rebroadcast the show and that some clips from the Lincoln Memorial event, including Bishop Robinson's prayer, will be played on the Mall prior to the swearing in ceremony.

An interesting question
Is the politician more trustworthy than the corporation?

Fetch my pearls, I need to clutch them!

Easy call.
Obama has stuck it to our community time and again.  HBO never has, to my knowledge.  (Correct me if I'm wrong about this.)  It's not hard to figure out who has more credibility here.

What time is it?

You just knew this yesterday
My partner said it, and I'm sure tens of thousands of us were thinking the same thing last night: "They'll blame each other."

Meanwhile, just when I'd let go of the Rick warren insult, comes this new slap in the face.  It hasn't turned me rabid, but it does make me feel sour when I should be joyous.

they may blame each other
but this is the obama team's fault. There was a start time. the Obama people would have certainly known what that start time was. They chose to put Robinson on before it. 'Nuff said.

Marion Anderson = Bishop Eugene Robinson
The event We Are One had barely finished the footage of Marion Anderson being told she couldn't sing by the Daughters of the American Revolution...and they silenced Bishop Robinson.

for a little Historical footnote....NOBODY remembers any of the names of those Daughters of the American Revolution, and Marion Anderson is LEGENDARY.
and Rosa Parks is LEGENDARY.

Maybe in 50 years the story of this Inaugural won't be Bono, or Warren, or Beyonce...maybe it'll be Bishop Eugene Robinson.
History is funny that way.

Marian Anderson's concert was broadcast live and nationwide
Your point is not well taken. Marian Anderson's concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial was broadcast live and nationwide on the radio -- since we didn't have television yet.

And, it was filmed and included in newsreels in movie theaters - which is the way it was done in those days.

I'm not sure what Rosa Parks has to do with this issue.

In 50 years, it probably will be Bishop Robinson and here's how it will be remembered:

President-elect Obama thought it was perfectly OK to give a bigot the most prominent position in his inaugural ceremony and then insulted Bishop V. Eugene Robinson by refusing to broadcast Robinson's invocation because Robinson was gay.

Robinson will be remembered as Marian Anderson and Obama will be remembered as the DAR.

But do ya think you can count on us to pay you to abuse us?

Not a gay thing
Actually, I'm going to take what is probably the minority view and say I doubt it was a gay thing.  I think it was a celebrity thing.  If Robinson had been a big movie or pop star, I think for sure we'd've heard his prayer.

obama had the control
though, so it's still his issue to deal with. And skipping us for beyonce is indeed homophobic.

When Obama invited Robinson
When Obama invited Robinson, it was a down payment on the offense of having Rick Warren give the invocation.

Obama certainly implied that Bishop Robinson's invocation would be included in the broadcast of the event.

Can you imagine if Obama had invited Robinson and told him, "the event will be televised, but we're not going to include the invocation in the broadcast."?

This garbage is standard operating procedure for slapping gays around. As I've said before, I think Obama gets off on gay bashing.

Any explanation of the Anonymous Men's Choir thing?

it's worth NOTHING
it's inconceivable that something like this would get by the Obama team. As I've said before, everything in politics, when it comes to message, is examined and reexamined. That's politics 101. They knew about the start time for the show. Period.

FYI, the parade lineup has been announced
The listing is in Quick Hits:

I can't wait . . .
for the commercial break.

[ Parent ]
Keeping an open mind
While I understand and to some extent share skepticism about how unintentional this might have been, here's part of a comment from the episcopalcafe.com post on the Invocation (http://www.episcopalcafe.com/lead/faith_and_politics/gene_robinsons_prayer_for_pres.html) that throws a different light on the matter:

"As a singer with the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC (which, along with the other backup choruses at the event, did not receive credit), I heard Rev. Robinson give his invocation at about 2:20, 10 minutes before the show officially started. I'm Jewish, and I was sitting next to an atheist, and both of us were in tears by the end of these brave and powerful words.

I won't try to speculate why this was not included in the broadcast; truth be told, this whole show was thrown together so fast, and backstage was so disorganized, I'm amazed at how smoothly it went, and how polished it all looked in the end."

If nothing else, it makes plain that people who are feeling slighted that the Gay Men's Chorus wasn't identified as such may not be aware that none of the backup choruses were credited.

It's very simple
If you know anything about live broadcast, you know that the stuff that occurs during the broadcast gets broadcast. The stuff that occurs before or after doesn't get broadcast. They run the program on a clock - which is a list of the things that will happen on the stage, timed down to the second.

Now, think about this: Do you really think Obama would give control of the program to HBO? Of course not. HBO was no more involved in the programming of the event than CSPAN will be at Tuesday's inauguration.

Please read PIC's statement. They aren't pointing fingers. They said they "regret the error" which is an admission they were responsible.

The problem is that Obama keeps making these screw-ups with reference to slapping gays around.

These are professional people. If they thought it was important to have Bishop Robinson's invocation included in the broadcast, it would have been included.

Note also that Obama didn't show up in time for the invocation. That, in itself, was a snub. Anyone care to bet whether or not Obama will be at the inauguration in time to hear Rick Warren's invocation.

Including Bishop Robinson's invocation in later broadcasts is garbage. Put Rick Warren in the pre-show lineup and have Bishop Robinson give a second invocation after the broadcast of the inauguration starts.

Isn't it interesting that Obama slaps gays around, the insults get bigger, and the crumbs offered for amends get smaller?

Close, but not quite.
They said they "regret the error" which is an admission they were responsible.

"Regret the error" is like "mistakes were made" or "we're sorry you were offended" -- standard fauxpologies which are mostly about being able to deflect criticism without actually accepting any responsibility or implying a willingness to do anything.

[ Parent ]
I agree with you completely
I was simply pointing out that they admitted they were responsible.

Perhaps, I should have been more clear. I didn't take that as an apology - sincere or otherwise.

They still haven't admitted that it was done deliberately, but they have admitted they did it - which demonstrates what has become more obvious with each passing hour: HBO had nothing to do with it.

HBO's attempts to claim ownership of the concert. Definately indicates they're more responsible than we first thought.

I'm grateful to have it, but...
You can't see Bishop Robinson - only a spec at the podium. Wouldn't it be great if Obama got that treatment during his speech tomorrow?

The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in time of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality. -- John F. Kennedy (inspired by Dante's Inferno)

[ Parent ]
I'm grateful too, but . . .
such a shame that the only document (other than text transcript)we have of Robinson's words are from a person with a flip cam standing next to a stage monitor.

[ Parent ]
Get mad, then get even
This whole Robinson brouhaha reminds me of something Clinton said about environmental activists after he left office. He commented that environmentalists had made the mistake of thinking that just because he was elected, that all their concerns would automatically be addressed. They just stood by the sidelines and waited for changes to happen. They never did.

He then said that what they needed to do was to work the Congress, to get him the votes that he needed.

I think the object lesson here is that Obama, whether he realizes it or not, is doing us a favor by pissing us off. Pissed off people get active and do something. They don't just sit around and play the blame game. Obama has made it clear that he treats GLBT rights as a strategic issue, and as long as the votes aren't there he will not waste political capital and go out on a limb.

Since Obama in the past has said he supports GLBT equal rights, the only thing standing between us and our rights is 100 senators and 435 representatives. In my opinion, it's time to focus our efforts on the people whose votes matter.

Bishop prayer playing tomorrow on Jumbotron
An inaugural committee aide calls it a "simple mistake."

"We'd always intended him to be in the televised portion of the program -- but there was an obvious miscommunication between the planners and executers on this one."   HBO went live at 2:30 pm ET; Robinson invoked at around 2:25.

Live TV being what it is, it's not a mistake that is easily or quickly fixed.

Tomorrow, before an audience of 2 million people on the Mall, the inaugural committee will broadcast an edited version of the program on Jumboscreens that includes his prayer.

It was, the aide says, "[a]n honest, unfortunate mistake in executing the program that for which we take responsibility."

The team has apologized to Robinson.

It ain't going to Happen
The Obama team made a decision early onto court the persuadable evangelicals at the expense of the GLBT community. They did it in the primaries. They made in roads in the general election.

The selection of Warren was done to continue that process. They are not going to queer the deal by apologizing to queers.

It is easy political math. Nearly every evangelical vote is a take away from Republicans. Most gays will either hold their nose and vote for the Democrats or stay away all together.

Who cares?
If the Pope were to give the invocation, would this have happened to him? Of course not. It happened because they placed no importance on putting Robinson on the air.

It wasn't honest, it was at best incompetent and careless, and more likely hateful.

Who cares about 2 million people on the mall. If Obama hadn't sold exclusive rights to HBO, it would likely have been seen by 100's of millions of people, maybe even billions.

Well, there's ONE improvement, at least
...because Bush & Co. never took responsibility for anything. I'm not saying the apology mollified me. It's just refreshing to hear supposed adults take responsibility for, you know, things that actually are their responsibility.

Glad I didn't waste my time or money on this guy
He can stop already. He had me back at Donnie McClurkin

And what does Rick Warren's Members Only jacket signify?
There are reports that HBO will include the prayer when they rebroadcast the show and that some clips from the Lincoln Memorial event, including Bishop Robinson's prayer, will be played on the Mall prior to the swearing in ceremony.

You know they're just going to play Journey underneath the screen for the first few minutes and then cut suddenly to a black screen.

___

Glib mode off:

The most charitable interpretation I can think of is that they (the Obama transition team) tacked Robinson on at the last minute to soothe the uproar over Warren and couldn't find an appropriate place for him on the schedule without bumping a celebrity.  And less charitably, they thought his mere presence would be enough to placate the gay community without having to broadcast him.

The Dems are not perfect, we know that
But you would think after the mess that the DNC got itself into with the firing of the gay man, Donald Hitchcock, from his position as head of party outreach to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans after his partner made public statements critical of Dean over his handling of gay issues.

There are factions within the Democratic party that don't share the vision of equality and freedom from hate.

It is soon to be President Obama's job to keep them in check...WE certainly will.

Sounds pretty familiar to me
How many times does the same thing have to happen before you're willing to admit that it is intentional?  Think back to the primaries and the Obama Gospel Tour in SC featuring the anti-gay bigot Rev Donnie McClurkin.  At that point Team Obama told us that a "staffer" hadn't vetted McClurkin well enough and they weren't aware of his anti-gay views.  But, not to worry, because he would only be there to sing and would not be expressing his anti-gay views.  Besides, after realizing their mistake, they invited a gay minister to open the show with a prayer to "balance" the appearance of McClurkin.  So, the gay minister appeared very "early" before most of the audience members arrived.  And, since McClurkin wouldn't being making any "personal" comments, the gay minister didn't address the gay issue either.  Then of course, McClurkin went ahead and spewed his anti-gay screed anyway.  It went on for several minutes.

This whole story sounds strikingly familiar to the events surrounding Rev Warren and Bishop Robinson, doesn't it.

Fool me once.....

HERE is the name....Joshua Earnest.

This from a comment on change.org by a person knowledgeable about the movement especially the NEOLIB (e.g.incrmentalist) side..also he is a friend of Bishop Robinson.

"His name is Joshua Earnest. He was communications director for the Obama campaign in Iowa. He worked for the Vilsack campaign and the former governor of IA.

Tom Vilsack is a neoliberal. He is a member of the DLC and supports centrist and conservative wings of the DNC.

Joshua Earnest is the spokesperson and member of the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC).

The PIC advised HBO that their special should begin at 2:30 EST and that the Robinson prayer would occur at 2:25 EST. Bishop Robinson said that he knew about the five minute discrepancy but did not fully understand the ramifications.

I suspect that the good bishop led with his heart and not his spleen on this issue. He told NPR that he was unaware that the DC Gay Men's Choir was not identified to the audience in any way whatsoever

Other individuals felt that HBO is looking for an award for this Lincoln Memorial special and did not want the gay bishop or the gay choir hurting their chances with anti-LGBT protests.Isn't it awful to be the last minority whom you can malevolently act against with total trust that you will not be taken to task?"

So remember who you are going to vote for awards time!

Proof positive that when Lincoln said "you can fool some of the people all the time" he was thinking about Democratic (sic) voters.

HBO blames the incident on the inaugural committee of the bigot who began his campaign with McClurkin, ended it with Warren and on the way torpedoed our effort to defeat prop 8 when he said "god's in the mix". His name is Obama.

I believe them.

On the key questions of war, economic disaster and the holy trinity of racism, misogyny and homophobia the Democrats are no better than Republicans. In truth they're simply two sides of the same coin. The Democrat (sic) Party's leadership is polluted by bigots and those who pander to them.

Obama out Roved McCain and captured a lot of the bigot vote and in the process ran us over with the Route 8 bus. Warren's invitation means only one thing: Obama fully intends to keep his bigot voter base and expand it. Kennedy and Pelosi ditched the hate crimes bill; how many have died as a result? Frank gutted ENDA. Biden voted for DOMA. DADT and DOMA were among the worst laws ever passed by Congress. Democrats championed both, voting for them overwhelmingly and a bigot named Bill Clinton merrily signed them. Is it any wonder that Dobson smirks so much?

The Democrat (sic) leaders are as much our enemies as their Republican cousins. Those who voted for either are now face to face with the lesser evil and they don't like it one bit.  The problem is we all have to pay the price for their naiveté or lack of principle.

The looter rich much prefer working with Democrats like Obama and the Clintons - they're greedier, they fool more people and they're able to get away with a lot more than Republicans.

No proof Lincoln said that
It's also been attributed to PT Barnum.

There's no proof that Obama is anything but a bigot but some foolishly voted for him.

Phineas understood liberals and their place in the political food chain as well as Lincoln. Their scorn is for those in whom hopey-changey blooms eternal in spite of DOMA, DADT, ENDA being gutted, dropping hate crimes and Leah Daughtry, a Jimmy Swaggart imitator who runs the DNC.

It's a common enough judgment on the role of liberals, fence sitters and those able to stomach genocide, trillion dollar gifts for the rich and vermin like Warren. They harbor the mistaken belief that scratching the back of a bigot like Obama will make him think twice before he stabs you in the back.

The tragic political fate of liberals is summarized in the following clips:
