The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

The Peter links reproductive freedom advocates to The Homosexual Agenda

by: Pam Spaulding

Fri Jan 23, 2009 at 12:30:00 PM EST

It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

LaBarbera has been churning out some really freakshow columns of late. The latest obsessive diatribe, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade , is about connecting-the-dots between The Homosexual Agenda and the fetus-destroying, baby-eating reproductive rights movement.

joe_solmonese.jpgJoe Solmonese (left) went from helping to elect pro-abortion-on-demand Democrats at EMILY’s List to advancing the pro-homosexuality/ -transsexuality agenda as president of the Human Rights Campaign. The twin evils of homosexuality and abortion share a common foundation: the elevation of self over transcendent truth and God’s revealed will for men and women. Homosexual activists have been in the forefront of “defending” abortion centers against pro-lifers whose aim is merely to save innocent babies from destruction and persuade women NOT to make a decision that will haunt them the rest of their lives. Below is a photo of a fetus’ feet at 10 weeks.

Folks, the issues of defending life and sexual morality are joined at the hip: each of the evil movements they oppose — the abortion and homosexuality lobbies — elevates mankind’s selfish desires over God’s will. Is it any wonder that the two greatest sin lobbies of today have as their sworn enemies the preservation of life and natural marriage and the God-ordained family? And this is not just theoretical: front-line, pro-life veterans such as Joe Scheidler tell me that over the years homosexual activists have been in the forefront of defending abortion “clinics” (killing centers) — to block the life-saving efforts of people trying to witness the truth about life to pregnant girls and women going into the death-centers to abort their own children.

Peter mentions that the issue of abortion is a personal matter:

The life issue is close to my heart, as my younger brother, Jimmy, has Down syndrome –placing him in a group of people who are singled out for extinction in the womb by doctors because they are, well, not perfect. Thankfully, my mother never even considered the prenatal test that could have been the prelude to an abortion, and Jimmy has blessed the lives of me and my extended family, and many others, for decades.

And that's wonderful, Peter. In all seriousness -- that situation was about a choice your mother made based on her beliefs and personal circumstances - she wanted a child and it didn't matter if her child was born with special needs. However, that situation cannot be compared to, for instance, a woman who is raped. According to people on the forced-birth side of the fence, a rape survivor shouldn't have a choice other than to have her rapist's baby. Is that just and right?

Abortion is too complicated a matter to make black and white or good and evil. People have views all along the spectrum all with good intentions from their POV. The problem is forcing women to yield control of their body to the state. What's next? From the fundie extremist POV, they want to eliminate abortion rights AND access to contraception AND reality-based sex ed in schools. I hate to break it to you, but that's a recipe for disaster that will increase the number of unplanned pregnancies and cases of STDs. Is that God's plan? Quite frankly it doesn't matter what the man upstairs thinks because we are talking about civil law, not the relationship between a woman and whatever deity she believes in, if she's a believer at all.

Petey is a raving LUNATIC
These morons who have never supported a RIGHT to Privacy for women or LGBTs, have NO POWER. They can only whine and fuss and it amounts to NOTHING.
They conveniently forget Republican appointees to the Supreme Court heard Roe vs Wade TWICE, and backed the fact NO UNDUE restrictions are allowed to impede a woman and her doctor from exercising their RIGHT to a safe legal abortion. I lobbied for safe legal abortions in MN prior to Roe vs Wade and we won. No woman including Petey's mommy is ever forced to have an abortion, so his Downs Syndrome brother story is moot.

selfish desires?
Oh, yeah. I'm being selfish because I need to fix my birth defect. Guess he'd rather me be a dead boy and not an alive girl because that was where I was headed if I hadn't transitioned.

What nerve of me!

Dena

P.S. Why does it seem most of the fundy-nuts "defending life" are men? I bet their perspective would be different if they were the one that was raped.

Denabeth excellent point about these anti-CHOICE MEN
Women need to quit having sex with this mutant strand of men who think they OWN the woman's body. They will be winnowed out by evolution. ALL men should either support a woman's right to govern HER BODY, or shut the f*ck up.
THEY will NEVER have the choice to make inside their body, so either show respect to those who, do or mind your own f*ckin business.

There's the rub
It's the fundies who are having tons of kids, and the rest of us who are generally having 0-3. Guess which direction evolution is going to take us at that rate?

[ Parent ]
I guess that you haven't heard about "Preachers' Kids syndrome"....
the more restrictive the upbringing, the wilder the teen and often adult years.

The extreme conservative religious leaders have created institutions that in theory can insulate children from contact with non-extreme peers in the outside world, from birth to end of college, with increasing emphasis on (early) supervised courtship and/or arranged marriages, to ensure that spouses will carry on the religious policing once the grown children are out of the house. Home schooling and group activities for home schooled children, "Christian academies" (K-12), Bible colleges, megachurches with vigorous youth groups and with a full selection of recreation facilities, specialized "Christian" entertainment (rock music, movies, books, video games).

Sometime those children and young adults will get a glimpse outside their community, perhaps by getting to know co-workers. Many will ignore or leave the conservative religious community. Many will stay, because they fear ostracism from family and the one community that they know, because they are afraid of going to hell, because they feel most secure in a community where there are restrictions and instructions, or because they like simple-minded religion (The Rules(Tm)). The yield of True Believers in offspring of the extreme conservatives is never 100%, even in isolated compounds like the polygamist fundamentalist Mormon (FLDS) Western border towns. Those with a less isolated upbringing, say, public-schooled members of suburban megachurches, have significant percentages (>50% of young adults without children) of walkaways who don't attend or belong to a church or who change to a moderate or liberal denomination.

In mixed company, conservatives like to claim that they will take over, based on demographics. However, young adult retention is a perennial topic among conservative preachers and pundits - with fears that "true Christianity" will die out in a generation or two if trends of 10% young adult retention continue. (All denominations lose most cradle members when those children reach college age, and all denominations gain some back when the young adult marries and has children. Considerable denomination-jumping occurs among Protestant young married returners.)

[ Parent ]
Only sometimes
That may be the case in some groups, but it certainly isn't in all fundamentalist religious communities. Oh, and I wasn't talking only about Christians.

[ Parent ]
When is La Babs going to abort his bigotry?
Pro-choice and GLBT groups have one thing in common...they both think that Peter LaBarbera is a d-bag. He's been exploiting his brother in order to undermine the freedom of others. Talk about shame.

The goal: more breeding make for more sheeple
and while you are at it, keep 'em dumb so they will vote repug

ONE fact that just KILLS the anti-CHOICE folks is the morning after pill
They know women can privately get a presription and never have to go specificly to an abortion clinic they attack.
We need to rid the pharmacey's of these bullsh*t crackpots who say their religion doesn't allow them to fill LEGAL prescriptions....fine get ANOTHER f*ckin career. If some pencil neck pharmacist denied a woman friend or family member of MINE, a morning after pill after a rape, I'd take the sonofabitch out in an alley, and beat the snot out of him. These fundies need to feel the fear that they used to cause to women they'd harrass at clinics.

Taken from Slant Magazine's review of the abortion doc, Lake of Fire:
"We are right, they are wrong as we cling to the word of God," claims a religious leader, an attitude that, as many others compellingly assert, extends beyond simply the abortion issue. Through interviews with narrow-minded ideologues like Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry, Lake of Fire reveals the implicit goals of a pro-life agenda: to subjugate women, and, more fundamentally, to remove people's right to choose how they wish to live their lives. That racism, sexism, and homophobia frequently underscore anti-abortion protestors' contentions is succinctly summed up by Terry's claim that "Intolerance is a beautiful thing."

Adopt An Unwanted Child
Instead of waisting billions in donations to overturn Roe v Wade, why doesn't opponents of abortion use their time and money to adopt unwanted children.

Just confront everyone of these asswipes
How many kids with HIV or born with special needs, or addicted to alcohol or drugs have YOU adopted?
Then walk away when the answer NONE.

Don't forget the other critical aspect...
Pam said:

"From the fundie extremist POV, they want to eliminate abortion rights AND access to contraception AND reality-based sex ed in schools. I hate to break it to you, but that's a recipe for disaster that will increase the number of unplanned pregnancies and cases of STDs."

That recipe for disaster will not only increase the number of unplanned pregnancies and cases of STDs, but the number of women maimed, sterilized, and dying from botched abortions done at home, by others not trained to do them safely, or by physicians unable to do them in proper facilities with proper equipment.

The main reason to keep abortion legal is to keep it safe. Because legal or not, when they feel they need or want to for whatever reason, women will seek abortion as they have throughout history.

But keeping abortion legal does not mean we are pro-abortion. As Pam said, legal abortion should always go hand in hand with maximal efforts to minimize unwanted pregnancy (i.e. good sex and contraceptive education and access to contraception for all) and thus minimize the demand for abortion in the first place.

Of course
They want to bring us back to pre-1950. The joke here is that all of these men (and they are mostly all MEN), want to keep everyone ignorant about sex. And if sex happens, in their book, it should be under the most painful of circumstances - marriage and children.

They certainly don't want anyone enjoying sexual activities.

IMHO
Anyone lacking a uterus has no right to voice an opinion on choice.

gotta agree
I have my opinions about abortion, however, I think it is a woman's choice to either be pro or against. After all, women are the ones that suffer the physical/emotional effects (on either side). NOT MEN!!!
just my 2 cents

Peter's Mom Pro-Choice?
Thankfully, my mother never even considered the prenatal test that could have been the prelude to an abortion,
Did Peter just reveal that his Mom was (is?) pro-choice? Now that would be a revelation and make for someone I'd really be interested in hearing from :)

Electricity's for light bulbs!

Peter is the poster child for ABORTIONS, I wish they were retroactive

Excelent post, Pam
But this nonsense had been brewing in Catholic circles for several years now. It is a frequent mantra on EWTN, the Catholic cable channel, that "homosexuality = abortion." It came up several times during their coverage of the "March for Life." And they say it at the drop of a hat on their other programs, especially on The World Over, which is hosted by obvious closet-case Raymond Arroyo. (Raymond used to be Pat Robertson's buttboy on The 700 Club, but jumped ship when he figured out Pat hates Catholics. The poor clown is mighty slow on the uptake, huh?) The fact that their pernicious rot is spreading to other "pro-life," anti-gay circles probably means we'll be hearing a lot more of it. Autumn is right--we have to monitor these creeps very carefully.

Cynic, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be.
-Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary

Don't kid yourselves folks
The anti-abortion contingent is far from being all men. Even here in the liberal New York area I know more than a few women who are vehemently anti-choice. The numbers elsewhere are even higher. I have friends in other parts of the country who have been repeatedly verbally assaulted by fellow women who refer to them as baby killers and won't stop haranguing them with their anti-choice rhetoric. Sarah Palin is only one notable example, and a lot of her popularity was with that group of women.

Ugh
The RRRWers love to blather about how they "choose life" for fetuses with Down Syndrome and the like and how noble they are for it. But you never hear them talk about how they continuously vote against funding for the social services that help support people with disabilities throughout their lives. This means that parents of children with disabilities often live in poverty/near poverty due to the outrageous expenses associated with the care of their children (medical care, adaptive equipment, support services, etc). When the individual is an adult they tend to live near or below the poverty line. They usually end up in group care facilities at some point and while they're far better than they used to be, the potential for abuse and neglect is still there. (I worked in human services for 20 years so I know.)

The RRRWers have nothing to crow about when they say they "choose life". They merely decide not to abort. What they put the fetus into is often not life by any definition of the word.

Right!

We were extraordinarily damn lucky with Jean's autism- immediately upon diagnosis, various social services were in place to help up with this laundry list:

1. Physical Therapy
2. Speech Therapy
3. Applied Behavioral Therapy
4. Occupational Therapy
5. Specialized Pre-School/ a dedicated "one-on-one" therapist working with Jean full-time within the classroom setting.
6. Transportation back and forth from our home or Jean's daycare to each of these therapies and back.

She spent 4 years of an intensive schedule- she attended 2 years of half-day kindergarten which allowed for continuation of some of these therapies on a limitted time basis.

All of this was fully covered.

Had we not had that help, I wouldn't be sitting here in a warm house and with a computer. And the difference between when she started these therapies and now almost 8 years later is ASTOUNDING.

I was struck by this quote
The life issue is close to my heart, as my younger brother, Jimmy, has Down syndrome -placing him in a group of people who are singled out for extinction in the womb by doctors because they are, well, not perfect. Thankfully, my mother never even considered the prenatal test that could have been the prelude to an abortion, and Jimmy has blessed the lives of me and my extended family, and many others, for decades.

This is what these deluded people think. Having a test doesn't mean you're going to have an abortion. Yes, the tests can help a woman choose what route to go, however, a test can also help the Dr. diagnose what's potentially wrong with the child before it's born and possibly treat the child in the womb. Not having these tests is VERY short sighted.

How come the Christian crazies never think about the fact that their God gave these Dr's their abilities?

I'm proud to be a choice-loving fudgepacker
A less obvious facet of LaPeter's rambling is linking two perceived evils with dual hopes: getting people opposed to one and on-the-fence re the other to hate both, and sowing division among those causes. He knows that the leadership and stalwart defenders of reproductive freedom and LGBT equality cannot be divided; so, he's counting on pro-choice homohaters and anti-choice Queer lovers to join muddled coalitions of fear and ignorance on an ad hoc basis.

Thanks
... for not showing us the picture of the feet.

One of the only bad moments of last weekend here in DC was that our visit to Union Station (to load up on souvenirs and assorted crap) was marred by "pro-life" lunatics carrying enormous photographs of aborted fetuses for all to see.
