Which states that marriage or the legal substantive equivalent of a same-sex couple will never be recognized in Utah. So my only question is, what the hell are self-respecting gay people still doing LIVING there?

Mormons are evil people. Just ask my little sister, who went to high school in North Ogden and was called a "dirty n****r" every day of her adolescent life by good, white, god-fearing, "christian" classmates.

My view will be unpopular, but...

I am new to this forum, but I must say I, for one, am glad Sen Buttars had the courage to say what he said. America is too quick to forget the Gay Rights bombings of the Kenyan and Tanzanian embassies in 1998, or their attacks on the USS Cole in 2000. Even the Gay Rights Activists who flew those planes on the tragic day of 9/11 are being forgotten as the time passes.

Sen Buttars, thank you for shining your light of truth so that all Americans can see who the real enemies are.

I followed a tweet here from Lesbian Dad and couldn't help but poke fun at Sen Butters, but forgot that what I wrote isn't really that far off from the kind of crap that gets said on the Internet all the time. Which is astoundingly sad and outrageous. I should have been more cautious and will be next time.

LookyDaddy excells at satire, and ironcially brother kevinchi, by saying "Don't be hasty. It's a troll," was himself being hasty.

If you Google the words "Looky Daddy" first thing that comes up is his blog, and, as it happens, the first, most read post that gets highlighted within the Google results detail thing is his post "Your Days Are None The Better For What You Have Done," one of the most moving and concise personal responses to the passage of Prop 8 that I've read. Given that his readers are predominantly hetero and often fairly a-political, his impact is strategic and much appreciated (@ least by me).

He did some really creative fund-raising against Prop 8, and is a genuine hetero ally.  Says this life-long lesbo and long-time Blend afficionado.

It's just he's a genuinely sarcastic/satirical ally, easily misread, it seems. I can see how folks would jump, though, given the extremism and the utter insanity of the right-wing anti-gay crowd.

This is the mo fo who ran the Mormon Gulags which tortured gay teens kidnapped in the night, who had staff fish hook their mouths to cause EXTREME PAIN but leave no marks or bruises, who keeps parents from contacting their kids for 4 weeks, and their brochure says ignore your kid saying they are abused, kept for 3 months to 2 years against their will, made to run laps in freezing night temps in their underwear, housed with JUNKIES.
I swear to god if they'd done this to me at 15yo, at 18 they'd have created a McVeigh just waiting to harm Mormons.

You know, I was just reading today in Altemeyer's "The Authoritarians"...

... about how you can say to a high-RWA ("right wing authoritarian") personality "x (or y or z) is the greatest threat facing America/the world today" and no matter what the greatest threat is, they will probably agree with you!

There are an awful lot of greatest threats out there. Today it's the gays; tomorrow Buttars's knickers will be knotted over kids singing Mr. Rogers songs.

How many people have to notice before Dept. of Commerce Dir. Francine Giani decides to do her job? Does she even know what her job is?
