"If you're gay, lesbian, or bisexual, would you sacrifice for your trans neighbors and siblings? If you're trans, would you sacrifice for your gay, lesbian, or bisexual neighbors and siblings? It's something worth knowing about yourself and those around you."

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

NC braces for introduction of a marriage amendment bill...AGAIN

by: Pam Spaulding

Tue Feb 24, 2009 at 15:00:00 PM EST

Equality NC has learned that Sen. Jim Forrester, Rep. Paul Stam and others plan to file a marriage amendment bill AGAIN. These are the same good old boy fossils who do this every year, and for the last five years we've successfully killed the bill. They have failed to get this bill out of committee, and this year, the right wing and professional "Christian" set are stepping up their efforts. Stam and Forrester have until mid-day tomorrow to get other legislators to sign on as co-sponsors. Forrester was bleating about the all powerful Homosexual Agenda in this article in the Gaston Gazette:
"I think it has a better chance (of passing) this year than it ever has," he said of his bill, which he planned to introduce again Monday night.

...In prior years, the state's Democratic leadership has refused to hear the bill, leaving it to die in committee, Forrester said. That's proof of the strong influence that gay and lesbian groups and their "lavender lobbyists" have on many Democrats, he said. "We're supposed to be a conservative state, but it doesn't look like it," he said.

Forrester doesn't see his bill as promoting injustice. Churches and other groups are gearing up to promote the legislation in the coming weeks, including during a rally Tuesday afternoon at the Legislative Building in Raleigh.

"It's not discrimination against gay and lesbian people," he said. "I just think marriage should be between one man and one woman, as it has always been stated in the Bible."

A reader who lives in Brevard, NC sent me an email today. County commissions are passing resolutions in support of an amendment; just last week the Rowan County Board approved such a resolution. Of course these are non-binding, but the point is to activate anti-gay constituents to contact their state reps and senators to get on the record. This terrifies plenty of Dems in the lege, because they have had the luxury of this bill dying without any floor debate, so they haven't had to take a stand. It's highly likely that many, worried about getting re-elected in conservative districts, would choose if cornered to support a hate amendment. Here's what Mary R. said:
Can I cry on someone's shoulder?  I am so upset I can hardly contain myself.

Monday night (February 23), I and about 75 other gay or gay-supportive people attended a meeting of the North Carolina Transylvania County Commissioners because ENC (Equality North Carolina) had notified us that approval of a resolution to support putting a discriminatory Marriage Amendment to the North Carolina Constitution to a statewide vote (a la Prop 8) was on the agenda.  Evidently the word didn't get out to the other side because only 3-4 anti-gay people showed up.  North Carolina is the only state in the southeast not to have an anti-gay marriage amendment added to the state constitution and apparently, many counties are being asked to support this (never mind that marriage rights are not county business at all).

The letter continues below the fold.
Pam Spaulding :: NC braces for introduction of a marriage amendment bill...AGAIN
About 18-20 people spoke up enthusiastically and emotionally against the proposed amendment, including a number of college students, two college professors, two members of the clergy, a legally married lesbian couple, straight parents (like me), and others who had no family relationship with LGBT people, except for a wish for equality.  Only one person who claimed to be a minister railed against it.

Of the five county commissioners, a wonderful moderate Republican voted against the ugly amendment, and took considerable time to explain why, but the four others, including one Democrat, automatically voted for it (a pre-ordained vote, I'm sure, irregardless of who in the audience spoke against it).  I was later told that the purpose of this vote for the amendment was the hope that it would get on the ballot and therefore, many people would turn out to vote for it, and subsequently aid the Republicans in redistricting in 2010.

One commissioner with whom I spoke later kept referring to his non-acceptance of someone who "chose the gay lifestyle."  Three or four times I stopped him and said, "No, you don't 'choose' a 'gay lifestyle'" but he was unable to not repeat those words which seemed ingrained in his head, no matter what I said.  It was scary.  He said he would love his child if the child came out as gay, but couldn't approve the "gay lifestyle," and the child couldn't bring a partner home with him.  What kind of double talk is this?  What kind of parental love is this?  I was going mad with this incomprehensible conversation and I came home thoroughly disillusioned. ....but at the same time, so pleased with the considerable turnout of college students and Unitarian Universalist congregation members whom I hadn't expected.

I think it gets down to the younger generation.  We are not going to see significant progress until more of them get activated to vote.   And I bet the religious right is damned scared of them; they must see the handwriting on the wall.

The fundies plan to bus in supporters to Raleigh to demonstrate in support of a marriage amendment on March 3.

North Carolinians, ask your legislators to oppose the amendment. You can do it through the Equality NC web site, and help us stop these well-funded bible beaters who no doubt, will outgun us. If you're not in NC, please donate to EqualityNC.

That's easy for you to say
"It's not discrimination against gay and lesbian people,"

When you're not on the receiving end of the discrimination.

have a teacher who
talked to me about this. on another note, I'm doing an objective research project on the issue of the constitutionality of same sex marriage rights(hell of a hard time getting "factual" opposition points). She told me that the past sunday, her pastor had said that they were going to be busing in people specifically for this event. Shouldv'e asked her what side she took on this issue but i forgot.

I should be emailing more legislators.

Same thing happened here
Apparently the Waipahu evangelical churches all got buses for today. Meanwhile us working stiffs were forced to take time off we couldn't afford in order to attend the hearing. Must be nice to have corporate hate sponsors.

I'm a North Carolinian who is getting married next week
and most of my friends and family can't attend because they can't afford to travel to Boston for the ceremony because I can't have it in my home state in which I was born and raised and where I pay my taxes.

I think it was already posted, but here is the ENC link for sending a message opposing marriage discrimination where you can send the pre-typed message, or modify it, or write one completely in your own words:

Congrats, Jake!
Hope the weather is terrific and your day perfect... :)

Thanks for the well wishes!

A word of thanks to some other states
...from this North Carolinian.

The victories in Wyoming and Indiana earlier this year in stopping their amendments soften the "other states did it" argument we hear so often.

Truly, when one state wins, it helps us all.  I greatly value the work done in other states that makes the work in NC just that much easier.

Hopefully our past (and, by Jove, future) success here in NC can make it that much easier for folks to fend it off in other remaining states.

as it has always been stated in the Bible.
can someone direct me to the Scriptures where it says specifically  that marriage is b/w man/woman in the bible?

if he is going to use the bible as a blue print for social morality, we better apply the more absurd things in the book to apply to them as well. Queue the excuses  " yes, it does say that in the bible , but..."

Here.
"can someone direct me to the Scriptures where it says specifically  that marriage is b/w man/woman in the bible?"

Your average Christian can't even find the passages (much less anything else in the Bible), but what are often cited by the bigots are 1 Timothy 3:2 (where Paul says that a deacon of the church must be among other things "a husband of one wife") and Genesis 2:24 ("Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh").

It's specifically because I've read the Bible in-depth that I'm no longer and never again will be a Christian.

"lavender lobbyists"
He looks like Mr. Krispy Kreme himself.  He doesn't have the looks to be passing judgments.

"We're supposed to be a conservative state, but it doesn't look like it," he said.

Duh, could it be because people are waking up and it isn't conservative now?

Forrester looks like a man...
a little too comfortable with breaking the second and fourth of the seven deadly sins: gluttony and sloth. And yet he wants to be considered a moral giant? Giant pudding more like!

Spineless Dems
The sad thing is that, in past years, Democrats maneuvered to let this die in committee -- not from any decency, but to prevent Republicans from having a valuable GOTV tool.

If they let it out of committee this year, though, you can count on this: Many (perhaps most) Democrats will vote to write thousands of law-abiding, tax-paying North Carolinians out of the constitution. Doing otherwise would require more backbone than most of them possess.

So: The sad fact is that in North Carolina, as in most states, the legislators who vote for this shit aren't actually homophobes. They're just frighten little cowards afraid of the very vocal religious right. And it's always easier to abandon an unpopular minority than it is to stand up to bullies.

Marriage in the Bible?
"I just think marriage should be between one man and one woman, as it has always been stated in the Bible."

Do tell.

Marriage in the Bible
The thing about one-man/one-woman marriage is right next to the part where Jesus tells the multitudes that the free-enterprise system was created by God, and that anyone who interferes with it is an evil communist and should be stoned to death.

Why does it alway seem
the ones preaching morality are old, white guys.

Dena

Cisgender. Because the term "Genetic" is so 2006.

Because the MSM is still subconsciously racist...
so old Black guys don't quite cut it. After all, if you're an old Black guy and you say something, you're saying it to Black people. But if you're an old White guy everyone's listening because you're White - you're more important, more significant because of your skin colour.

(And oh how I wish I could say that my tongue was planted firmly in my cheek when I wrote that, but it wasn't.)

That doesn't really apply here in Hawaii
I've noticed that the "gay is a white disease" meme gets spread around quite a bit. Especially today. headdesk

Tavdy, can we go get a beer? I need a drink, and I think I'd like to drink with you tonight.

And why old guys?
Are people still believing that you get wiser with age? Maybe it was true at times with a average life expectation of 30 or less.

I'm counting on the arc of justice to favor marriage equality in NC
Gay marriage bashing is so last year. That tide has crested and is on the way out. Kudos to North Carolina for standing fast in the face of bigotry. From here on out, you should have it made. The evil tide washed away equality all around you, but as it recedes you're still standing tall and out and proud. You put your neighbor to the north to shame (speaking as a member of Equality Virginia). And Pam's House Blend certainly had a hand in preserving equality for NC.

Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find
you may as well feel good;
you may as well have some pride
