Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

IL: hearing today on civil unions bill

by: Pam Spaulding

Thu Mar 05, 2009 at 07:00:00 AM EST

In Illinois, the House Youth and Family Committee hearing for civil unions, called the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act (HB0178), will begin at 9:00AM, in the Capitol Building (Room 122B, Springfield, IL). The sponsors are Reps. Greg Harris, Deborah Mell,  Sara Feigenholtz, Constance A. Howard, Harry Osterman and John A. Fritchey. The synopsis (full bill here):
Creates the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act. Makes legislative findings: same-sex couples are denied equal access to civil marriage benefits; the current marriage law is discriminatory and harms same-sex couples; and there is no compelling interest or rational basis to deny same-sex couples those benefits. Provides that the Act does not interfere with any religious beliefs about marriage. Provides that the Act's purpose is to provide eligible same-sex and opposite-sex couples with the same treatment as those in a civil marriage. Provides that parties to a marriage of the same sex are included in the terms "spouse", "immediate family", "dependent", and related matters. Provides that domestic relations, probate, and family law shall apply equally to parties to a marriage of the same sex. Provides that benefits apply equally to same-sex marriages in these areas: causes of actions related to spousal status, for wrongful death, emotional distress, and loss of consortium; adoption; family leave; group insurance for State and municipal employees; accident and health insurance protections tied to former spouses and dependents; and taxes and tax deductions based on marital status. Provides that a civil marriage is prohibited between siblings or between an uncle and a nephew or an aunt and a niece. Amends the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act. Provides that nothing in the Act should be construed to interfere or regulate any religious practice concerning marriage and no religion is required to solemnize a marriage to which it objects. Provides that a marriage is between 2 persons (rather than, a man and a woman) licensed, solemnized, and registered under the Act. Effective immediately.
Read coverage at The Advocate about the Mormons injecting itself into Illinois politics.

While the Illinois General Assembly offers live audio and video of its sessions, it's not clear whether this committee hearing will be broadcast, web cast or on the radio. If any Blenders know, leave word in the comments.

Do you think The Peter will be there?

Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act
Smartest bill name I've seen from a democrat in a long time.  Republicans name their bills (albeit unlike this one very misleadingly) in such a way as to counter opponents on a title basis alone (Clean Air Act, Patriot Act).

I've always hoped Dems would capture this technique but use it honestly.  This is a great name for the potentially religious opponents arguing that they have a right to religious freedom.

Also including "Fairness" rather than "Equality" will not ring anyone's activist bells.  Conotations with fairness are much better (think about the polls on civil unions vs marriage equality).

The only potential problem might be marriage but hey 3 out a 4 ain't bad.  Great thinking IL Dems!  Let's try and pull this one off!

P.S. Peter is totally gonna be there.

Lest we forget
The Patriot Act is Democratic legislation.  It was penned by the Clinton administration in the 90s and rejected by the GOP-controlled Congress, which didn't want to give Bill that kind of power.  When Bush was in office, they changed their tune, of course...  But ultimately we have the Democrats, not the GOP, to thank for this horrible law.

Cynic, n.  A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be.

The Peter
I expect The Peter will be there.

However, if he's not, you can expect that one of his puppets will be there, like Laurie Higgins.

AFTAH (Americans for Truth) is closely allied with the Illinois Family Institute (IFI). They're on each other's board of directors-- very incestuous. Both organizations are based in Chicago's western suburbs.

The Peter used to work at the IFI before getting canned for his failure to get an anti-gay marriage amendment on the ballot in 2006.  (I was one of many volunteers who verified signatures-- oh man, what a sham. Forgery everywhere!)

I'm on local email lists. I'll post any updates I get.

He won't be there.
No fetish sex to gape at and take pictures of.  The "Americans" for "Truth" web site doesn't even mention it.  He's more concerned about a state Senate bill about election commissions and what's happening in California with the Prop 8 hearing.  Anybody surprised?

My America includes LGBT families.

No I am not getting this committee.

Audio/Video not available
Audio and video are not available for this committee hearing. They are showing the Appropriations-Human Services meeting instead.

Official updates on the bill are at http://tinyurl.com/baw7zk

I will post again if I get any news (I'm local, and may get a quick update from Greg Harris if something happens.)

Yeah, I had better open
a couple of my e-mail accts. it's possible that I could get updates from a couple of sources.

they need to amend the language a bit...
... from "a marriage is between 2 persons" to "a marriage is between 2 adults" just to pre-emptively silence critics who will inevitably say this makes pedophilia a-ok. Or maybe even to "2 competent adult humans" to cover all their bases. Otherwise, go Illinois!
