Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Weekender fun: new Dinosaur Trail preview at the Museum of Life and Science

by: Pam Spaulding

Sat Jul 11, 2009 at 21:15:00 PM EDT

Today Kate and I attended the sneak preview of the  new Dinosaur Trail at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham. You might recall that I  recently blogged about the last remaining dinosaur (R) on the late 1960s-era trail -- a "brontosaurus" -- was vandalized, its head decapitated  and stolen. It was later recovered and there is a campaign to restore it up on  Facebook, "Save Durham's Brontosaurus."

A couple of weeks ago, Beck Tench, who handles the Twitter account (lifeandscience, #dinotour and #dinotrail) at the Museum of Life and Science, sent out invitations to members, area bloggers and Twitter folks to visit the exhibit to get a peek at this work in  progress. We were encouraged to take photos and video and contribute to the  Museum's Flickr pool. Today's festivities for the new trail were a delight. The  place was packed despite classic NC hot, very humid weather. Some of the absent  dinos had cute cardboard cutouts where the real deal will be set in place by  opening day on July 25.

I made a little video that includes a slideshow of the dinosaur exhibit. Let  the kid inside out to play...

Here's the Flikr photo album.

Vandals decapitate dinosaur at Durham's Museum of Life and Science, head is recovered

by: Pam Spaulding

Just a bizarre hometown story...

This week the brontosaurus at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham was vandalized. Dino was a landmark, so a lot of folks in town are upset that the statue was decapitated, including yours truly.

"An act like this is just heinous," said Mike Shiflett, a resident of the nearby Northgate Park neighborhood.

Northgate Park and the museum have discussed conserving the statue, which has stood beside Ellerbe Creek since 1967. While scientifically obsolete, the brontosaurus is fondly regarded as a Durham landmark.

I remember my mom taking me to see the dinosaur trail when I was a kid, I figured it was around 1967-68. I recall photos were taken at the time, so I dug through some old albums and found one (left).

The good news is that the head was recovered on Wednesday:

They've also identified "those involved," but a statement from the Durham Police Department did not provide details.

The dinosaur head was found off Preston Andrews Road in northern Durham County. It appears it was taken as a prank, police said. The head did not sustain any additional damage.

...It has been returned to the museum and investigators are talking with museum officials about what course of action they wish to pursue, the release said.

You have to see the pic of the recovery. The caption reads: Jim Whitfield,46 tenderly touches the recovered brontosaurus head as it lays in the back of a pick-up truck at the N.C. Museum of Life and Science. We are sentimental saps about the dino... :)

Below the fold, a slideshow of photos of Dino -- a compilation sent in by fellow Durhamites and visitors to the museum.

Q of the Day: what quirky landmarks are in your neck of the woods?
