The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

bernie madoff

Welcome to the state of North Carolina, Bernie Madoff!

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Jul 13, 2009 at 17:00:00 PM EDT

Bernard Madoff, #61727-054, will be heading to the Tar Heel State's federal prison in Butner. He was given a 150-year prison sentence last month for an elaborate Ponzi scheme that ripped off thousands of victims.
Madoff will be joining several other well-known inmates at Butner. They include Omar Abdel-Rahman, the terrorist known as the "Blind Sheik" who masterminded the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and former Adelphia Commmunications Chief Executive Officer John Rigas.

Also incarcerated there: former U.S. Naval Intelligence Analyst and convicted spy for Israel Jonathan Pollard; former Colombo crime family boss Carmine Persico; and Russell Weston, the perpetrator of a 1998 U.S. Capitol shooting that left two U.S. Capitol Police officers dead.

Bernie wanted to serve out his sentence at up in Otisville, NY to be near home, but too bad, so sad for the white collar criminal. The Butner site, which has two medium-security facilities and a low-security prison facility, will provide him with a few creatur comforts -- and a new way to earn a living.
From rubbing elbows with millionaires to sharing a prison yard with drug dealers and gangsters, Bernard Madoff's life is about to change dramatically.

Madoff will find himself earning pennies a day sweeping floors, cleaning toilets or manning a stove in the prison kitchen. Like all prisoners, corrections officers will shine a light in his face twice in the middle of the night as part of six or seven daily checks.

Among the amenities Bernie will receive when he arrives in Butner will be a prison-issued hygiene kit containing a matchbook-sized bar of soap (no info whether he has a selection of manly scents to choose from or it's just Cashmere "signals luxury" Bouquet in the kit), a toothbrush, a comb and a razor. He can call home for at the rate of 25 cents/minute, but if Mrs. Madoff shows up, there aren't any conjugal visits allowed.

The "I Got It Made" Grin

Todd Gitlin over at TPM Cafe has an interesting post up about Bernie Madoff's smile.

Take a look at the NYT photo of Bernard Madoff arriving at court to hear a Federal judge uphold a lower-court decision that he may stay in his splendid apartment while out on $10 million bail.

...It's his triumphant smile that interests me. Most Madoff photos display that same smile of controlled geniality. He knows all the angles. He knows how the game is played, that is, rigged. This is the smile of a man who knows. He knows the game. He knows you and he knows me. When he was ahead of the game, he basked in the glow of esteem. He relished the chance to grant favors. He prided himself in making his friends richer. When the house of cards collapsed, he was left standing. He believes that he will remain standing. He knows his good fortune has been to live in the right place at the right time to get his name engraved in cornerstones. He has probably worked out a way to feel like a martyr. Losers are schmucks. What he knows is what George W. Bush knows: God bless America, a country where he's going to land on his feet.

Sure, he'll land on his feet. The rest of us will cushion his fall.

Up With Downward Mobility

by: TerranceDC

Sat Dec 20, 2008 at 16:00:00 PM EST

Every once in a while, an idea gels in my head and I dismiss it, thinking to myself "Nah. I gotta be missing something. It can't be that. And then I hear someone who probably knows a lot more than I do about the subject at hand say pretty much what I'd been thinking all along.

That was the case with my long-standing suspicion that one of the main goals of conservative politics and policy is to drive as many people as possible into downward mobility.

This Can't Really Be the Economy

by: TerranceDC

Sat Dec 20, 2008 at 11:19:23 AM EST

I'm not an economist. I've never studied economics, beyond reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Economics about a year ago. I've read about derivatives, and had my mind blown by the concept of securitization and the idea that people not only sell debt, but chop it up into little pieces, mix those pieces up, and then resell them to other people. (And, wait a minute, debt has value?)

And, all with no regulation or oversight?

Now, after following economic news this past year, it's like somebody pulled back the curtain and revealed the economy as little more than floating game of craps. And I find myself thinking, "You gotta be kidding me, right? This can't really be the economy. Can it? We gotta have something else, because you know what this sounds like to me?"
