Q Of The Day: Has Anne Slowey Been Right About the Fate of Dresses?
I was reading a comment about politics and women's pants from Julie Gilhart, fashion director of Barneys New York:

Certainly [dresses are] much more efficient. "Instead of spending days thinking about your wardrobe," she said, "you can concentrate on who you're voting for for president."

Fall 2008 Dress trends in two minutes.

This reminds of a statement from late last April by Anne Slowey, the fashion news director of Elle magazine:

The expiration date for the dress, she claimed, "is end of August."

Okay, now for a lighthearted, silly season Q of the Day: Do you think Anne Slowey has been right about the expiration date for dresses?
And, the follow up question for blenders -- whether you consider yourself a fashionista or not -- is this: In the voting booth this fall fashion season, would it be easier for you to concentrate on whom you're voting for as the next President of the United States if you were wearing a dress?
And remember: There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who ask questions.
Racist Or Not?

Comments?

http://www.northerns...

New bar dress codes target minorities

By RYAN STRONG

Recently, a couple of DeKalb bars have opted to enforce a dress code, making some students, including myself, speculate whether or not there is a deeper motive to erase minorities from the local nightlife.

The dress code, which started earlier this month, banned all baggy clothing at Starbusters, 930 Pappas Drive.

Molly’s Eatery and Drinkery, 1022 W. Lincoln Highway, took it one step further. The pub banned hoodies, do-rags, hats and caps, all baggy clothes, jerseys, large chains, basketball shorts, sleeveless shirts, “bling” and warm-up pants.

Both Molly’s and Starbusters declined to comment for this column.

I’ve got to hand it to them. Both bars have found a way to discriminate against people of color in 2007.

There are plenty of minorities who have committed crimes, but that does not give an accurate depiction of an entire group of people. Nor does it give any establishment the right to attempt to ban certain subgroups.

It would be illegal to ban blacks and Hispanics from any public place, but excluding people who wear baggy clothing, large chains, and do-rags is fine...........

Fashion Sense?

I've noticed I'm suddenly developing fashion sense, and it worries me that I might have one more thing to hide from my family until I get a chance to move out of here.
The other day I saw my dad leaving the house in these brown boot like shoes, while wearing blue jean shorts, and I stopped him.

"You can't wear those shoes with shorts"

"But I like them, their comfortable!"

"You look ridiculous!"

And then he just gave me this look, like he was thinking, 'Is he turning gay?'. And I was all worried and have decided to not comment on his fashion anymore.

But, for the record, he still looks ridiculous!

On a side note, it looks like this new job is stable and pays well enough that I might be able to move out of here by January or so.
